Monday Stories Welcome to the Texas League, Folty. Dramatics in the Cali League! With the housecleaning in Houston... this could result in shockwaves across the system. Recap Iowa 6, Oklahoma City 1 The Redhawks dropped 2 of 3 in a shortened series. Andy Simunic had an RBI single in the 4th for the lone run. Carlos Perez, Trevor Crowe, and Jonathan Villar (who scored on Simunic's single) each had 2 hits. Villar also added 2 steals (10). Ross Seaton was roughed up a bit in his 5 innings, as he gave up 4 on 8 hits (2-run homer for former Astro Edwin Maysonet). On the bright side, he walked 1 and fanned 6. Wes Musick went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits (2-run homer to Josh Vitters), walked 1, and struck out 3. The Redhawks will be coming back home to open up a 4-game series with Tacoma. Jarred Cosart will take the mound in the opener, and he'll be opposed by Jeremy Bonderman, who's trying to make his way back to the Majors after 2 years off. First pitch will be 7:05. Corpus Christi 3, San Antonio 0 The story of the afternoon was Mike Foltynewicz's mesmerizing AA debut. He, David Martinez, and Alex Sogard collaborated on a 3-hit shutout. In his first inning as a Hook, he struck out Reymond Fuentes (aka Carlos Beltran's cousin), walked Rico Noel (then picked him off 1st), and punched out Everett Williams to end the inning. About the only thing that went wrong for Folty was that he allowed a single to Cody Decker to lead off the 5th and then uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Decker to take 2nd. Foltynewicz threw 5 shutout innings, allowed the one hit, walked 1, and struck out 9. He threw 76 pitches (53 strikes). However, Missions starter Donn Roach was equal to the task, as he held the Hooks' offense scoreless in his 6 innings. Jeremy McBryde walked 2 in the 7th, but the Hooks couldn't capitalize. They finally broke through off Matt Stites in the 8th, as Ben Orloff sparked a 2-out rally with a single, and he found himself on 2nd after an error. George Springer made the Missions pay dearly, as he launched a 2-run blast (11; MiLB leader) off Stites to break the scoreless tie. Domingo Santana followed that up with a solo blast (4) of his own. David Martinez tagged in for 3 1/3, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1. His 0.87 ERA leads the Texas League. He ran into some trouble in the 9th as he walked Fuentes and allowed a single to Noel. Sogard came in to secure the win, and he struck out Everett Williams for the 2nd out. Then, Fuentes stole 3rd, and then he walked Cody Decker to load the bases. However, he got Jake Blackwood to line out to Santana, who was on the warning track, to end it. The Hooks and Missions will wrap up their series at 7:05. Matt Heidenreich and R.J. Alaniz will face Jose de Paula. Lancaster 8, High Desert 7 The Jethawks found themselves down 5-1 after the 2nd, but they closed out the game on a 7-2 run for the victory to earn a split in the series. Everyone had at least 1 hit except for Brandon Meredith, who went 0-3 with a K and left the game after getting hit by a pitch on his wrist. Also, 5 guys had 2 hits apiece. Preston Tucker went 2-5 with an RBI single in the 1st that put Lancaster on the board first. He also had a huge outfield assist in the 8th, when the game was tied at 5. After Jabari Blash tripled, Michael Dowd looked to have a sac fly. However, Tucker gunned down Blash at the plate. Brady Rodgers would allow a single, but he punched out Dillon Hazlett to end the inning. Matt Duffy hit an RBI triple in the 6th and an RBI single in the 7th. Chris Epps, who came on as a pinch-hitter for Carlos Perdomo and a defensive replacement for Meredith, tied the game with an RBI triple in the 8th. Tyler Heineman hit the go-ahead RBI double in the top of the 9th. Raoul Torrez, who entered as a pinch-runner for Meredith and was Perdomo's replacement at 2B, was 1-1 with an RBI single in the 9th and scored twice. He scored the Jethawks' final run as Nolan Fontana reached on an error. Telvin Nash had an RBI groundout in the 6th. Chris Devenski only lasted 3 innings, and he surrendered 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 3. Jonas Dufek bridged the gap nicely, as he walked 1 and struck out 3 over 2 scoreless. Brady Rodgers tagged in for 3 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and fanning 1. Travis Ballew made things interesting as he served up a 2-run shot for Daniel Paolini with 2 outs, and after that, he gave up a single to Kevin Rivers and a flub in the field from Epps allowed Rivers to take 2nd. But Ballew ended it by getting Blash to ground out. The Jethawks return home to begin 4 games with Lake Elsinore. Luis Cruz and Tom Shirley will be the pairing for the first game, and they'll be opposed by James Needy. First pitch is 7 Pacific. Quad Cities 8, West Michigan 3 The River Bandits took 2 of 3 in this series by putting up 5 in the 8th to bust open a 3-2 game. Jesse Wierzbicki, Ryan Dineen, Roberto Peña, and Jordan Scott had 2 hits apiece. Dineen had 2 bunt singles; one in the 1st, and the other in the 8th resulted in an RBI that started the QC run. He also added a sac fly in the 3rd. Wierzbicki scored twice. Scott hit an RBI single in the 2nd and had the big hit in the 8th, a 2-run triple. Peña had an RBI single in the 8th, and Ariel Ovando hit an RBI groundout. Colton Cain has had a horrid start to his season, but he turned in his best outing, as he held the Whitecaps scoreless over 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3. Mike Hauschild went 2 innings and allowed 2 runs (both in the 6th) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Gera Sanchez finished it out, allowing a run on 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 3 in 2 innings. Quad Cities will be making the trek home to Davenport, and they'll host the Cedar Rapids Kernels for 3 on Wednesday. No Correa vs. Buxton, as Carlos was placed on the DL. Three Stars 3. George Springer, CF, Corpus Christi 2-R HR (11) in 8th Now... with the promotions in OKC, that leaves 2 outfielders on the Redhawks roster. Hmmm??????? Spoiler I bet Austin Wates gets promoted before Springer, though. 2. Colton Cain, P, Quad Cities W(1-3), 5 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K Hopefully this could spark something for Cain? 1. Mike Foltynewicz, P, Lan... err, I mean, Corpus Christi 5 IP, H, BB, 9 K Honorable Mentions Preston Tucker, RF, Lancaster: Clutch defensive play helped preserve a tie for the Jethawks. Domingo Santana, RF, Corpus Christi: For providing insurance. David Martinez, P, Corpus Christi: This was the 3rd shutout that he and his partner has been involved in. And there was usually no dropoff between him and Wojo. Martinez's path has been pretty strange. It took him 4 years to get out of the Venezuelan Summer League. The 2012 Prospect Handbook (where he was listed as a sleeper) says that he's touched the mid-90s in the past, but usually settles around 92-94 as a starter. Jordan Scott, OF, Quad Cities: Had the big triple that sealed the game for the River Bandits. Jonas Dufek, P, Lancaster: Stopped the bleeding with an excellent relief outing. Brady Rodgers, P, Lancaster: Kept the Mavericks at bay, and he was rewarded with the win once the bats got going. Goat Uhhhhh... can't think of a definitive goat. Probably Teoscar Hernandez, who went 0-5 with 2 Ks. Ross Seaton too, but this outing actually lowered his ERA.
Any chance Correa's DL stint is retroactive to a few days ago? He hasn't played in a game since April 30th. I know DeShields' stint is retroactive to May 5th.
DeShields strained a finger on his right hand April 14th, came back the 19th, and has really struggled since. Now he jammed a thumb. Hopefully he can get healed up with a few days off.

Since Fernando Martinez was designated for assignment, he is currently being exposed to waivers. The DFA period lasts 10 days; for the first 7 days, he is on waivers. If Martinez is claimed by another team by the 12th, then the Astros will likely make a decision to address the OKC outfield.
Oh. Jarred Cosart with 5 strikeouts through 2 innings. All 3 hits have been singles. The two he gave up in the 2nd was a slow roller and a bloop.
I'm ready. Ever since he had his twitter episode last season, he's pitched well. This season he's taken it to that level everyone expected of him.
He's probably better off facing other teams best pitching prospects, rather than mostly never-was has-beens at AAA.
Springer is striking out 34% of the time against righties. Justin Maxwell actually walked more in AA than he struck out.
6 K's in 4 innings for Cosart. I love how he is striking out more batters. I can't wait until he gets the call
If I remember correctly, a big knock on Cosart's prospect status was the fact that he had great stuff but failed to strike out a lot of players. Any chance be is figuring things out and that he is able to maintain a high K average (8-9?)?
George Springer's home run from yesterday: <iframe src='http://www.milb.com/shared/video/embed/embed.html?content_id=26909635&width=400&height=224&property=milb' width='400' height='224' frameborder='0'>Your browser does not support iframes.</iframe>
Well I was talking about those like baseball America, minor league ball, etc. they would lower his top prospect status due to his low K rates, no?
