Luis Cruz couldn't quite make it to 5 innings despite his dominating performance on the mound for Lancaster. He allowed a run (inherited) on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9 in 4 2/3. According to Jethawks commentator Jason Schwartz, he threw 81 pitches. Lancaster and Modesto are tied at 1 in the 6th.

    Friday Story

    Swept. :(

Well, at least the Astros won.

    Recap

    Memphis 10, Oklahoma City 6

OKC's home opener was spoiled as Memphis knocked Brett Oberholtzer around early and often. Oberholtzer only lasted 3 innings and allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits (3-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 1. Kyle Hallock was the first man out of the Redhawks' bullpen, and he allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1 in 2 innings. Lance Day, in his first appearance of the season since being called up from extended spring training, allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and walked 1 in 1 1/3. C.J. Fick allowed a run on 2 hits in 1 2/3, and Josh Zeid finished it out by striking out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th inning.

The Redhawks had 16 hits in this game... everyone had at least one except for Jonathan Villar. He's now hitting .036. Well, at least he drew 2 walks. Trevor Crowe had an RBI single in the 5th for OKC's first run of the game; they had been trailing 7-0. Brandon Laird was 2-5 with an RBI single in the 7th. Marc Krauss was 2-5 with a solo homer (2) in the 8th and a 2-run single in the 9th. Jimmy Paredes was 2-4 with a double and a run scored, and Jake Elmore was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. He's now hitting .500 on the season.

Game 2 of this series is set for 7:05. Jose Cisnero and Rudy Owens will be tonight's pairing; they'll face Michael Wacha.

    Springfield 6, Corpus Christi 3

The Hooks had a 5-game winning streak snapped in this one... all 3 of their runs came in the 5th, courtesy of an RBI single from Austin Wates and a 2-run double by George Springer. Jorge went 2-4 one night after a golden sombrero. He passed it on to Michael Burgess. Domingo Santana was 0-5 with a hat trick. Ben Orloff, inserted into the lineup at 1B, chipped in 2 hits.

Matt Heidenreich only lasted 2 innings, and he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Pat Urckfitz was the bridge, and he threw 2 scoreless, allowing only 1 hit. R.J. Alaniz was the piggybacker, and he allowed 2 runs (both on a 2-run homer) on 3 hits and struck out 1 in 3 innings. Andrew Robinson struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th.

The Hooks and Cardinals will wrap up this series at 6:09, with Jake Buchanan and his new partner, Carlos Quevedo, going up against Boone Whiting.

    Modesto 4, Lancaster 1

Tough luck for Luis Cruz, as he was just dealing in this start. He went 4 2/3 and allowed a run (inherited) on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. The most strikeouts recorded by a Jethawks starter last year was 9 by Nick Tropeano. He went 8 innings; Cruz did that in 4 2/3. The 9th strikeout was his last out recorded, and he had already exceeded the 75-pitch limit. Jonas Dufek would come on and he promptly gave up an RBI single to Tim Smalling which tied the game at 1. Cruz's runner, Juan Crousset, scored. Oh, but Dufek did strike out Tyler Massey to end the 5th. Aaron West tagged in and he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 2 2/3. Tom Shirley, in his Jethawks debut, retired Niko Gallego to end the 8th.

In post #381, there is the tweet that says Delino DeShields strained a finger. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be anything serious. The Jethawks were held to 4 hits, with Brandon Meredith's sac fly resulting in the lone run. Andrew Aplin, Matt Duffy, Drew Muren, and Rafael Valenzuela had the hits.

Mike Foltynewicz will try to get things going tonight at 7:05 Pacific. He and Alex Gillingham are the starters tonight for the Jethawks; they'll face Tyler Gagnon.

Peoria 4, Quad Cities 1 in 10 innings

The River Bandits' home opener was also spoiled by their visitors. The Chiefs jumped on a Rio Ruiz error and John Neely in the 10th to the tune of 3 runs, which broke a 1-1 tie. Carlos Correa's RBI double in the 3rd was the lone tally for QC. He also drew a walk and struck out twice. Teoscar Hernandez was 3-5 with 2 steals (4). Tough night for Rio Ruiz, as he earned himself a golden sombrero.

Mike Hauschild bounced back from a rough first outing and made it through 5 innings. He allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2, inducing 9 groundball outs and 1 flyout. This is a guy who had a 75% groundball rate (I'm not making this up) last year in Greeneville. Colton Cain tagged in and threw 3 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and fanning 3. Neely threw a scoreless 9th, but the wheels fell off for him in the 10th. Of the 3 runs he allowed in the inning, all of them came with 2 outs, and only 1 of them was earned, as The River's 2nd error of the evening proved to be the backbreaker. He allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 in 1 2/3 innings. Mike Dimock, in his season debut, struck out Jacob Wilson to end the 10th.

Jordan Jankowski and Brian Holmes will be the tandem for the middle game of the series, which will take place at 7. Opposing them for Peoria will be Dail Villanueva.

    Three Stars

    3.

    George Springer, CF, Corpus Christi
    2-4, 2B, 2 RBI

Good bounceback game for him. I hope he can be a little less volatile on offense this season.

    2.

    Jake Elmore, 2B, Oklahoma City
    4-5, 2 2B, 2 R

For now, he'll probably have to bide his time in OKC. Obviously a .500 average is unsustainable, but if he continues to hit into May, he might put himself into consideration for a callup.

    1.

    Luis Cruz, P, Lancaster
    4.2 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 9 K

Too bad the pitch limit got to him.

Cruz was absolutely killed in his first try at Lancaster in 2011. He went back to Lexington for a 3rd season, and he became more adept at keeping the ball on the ground. He's also shown the ability to get the strikeout at times; his K rates in Lexington have been pretty good. Despite his lack of physical projection, Cruz could emerge as a sleeper this year.

    Honorable Mentions

Marc Krauss, OF/DH, Oklahoma City: Nice to see a bounceback after two straight without a hit.

Brandon Laird, 3B, Oklahoma City: He's been on a roll to open up the season. He could find himself in Houston sooner rather than later if Brett Wallace continues to falter and/or is rooted to the bench.

Jimmy Paredes, 3B/OF, Oklahoma City: He's drawing walks????

We all know that Paredes is one of the most athletic players in the system and that he could turn out to be a solid player at the major league level. But I think that an edict was handed down to him, ordering him to get on base more.

Josh Zeid, P, Oklahoma City: For being the only Redhawks pitcher who wasn't scored on. He hasn't allowed a hit in any of his 3 appearances.

Teoscar Hernandez, CF, Quad Cities: The jump from a full season in the GCL to full-season ball is a big one. Hernandez is currently on a 5-game hitting streak and he seems to be getting acclimated to America. He was on the cusp of Baseball America's Top 30 this year, and a breakout will surely usher him in.

Colton Cain, P, Quad Cities: A bit perplexing that he started off in Low-A despite spending all of 2012 at the High-A level. I think he was a victim of the numbers game. He had 3 solid innings of work.

Ben Orloff, IF, Corpus Christi: Organizational guys need some love too!

Lancaster commentator Jason Schwartz lauded Orloff ("The Wizard," as he's known to some of the players) for his makeup and work ethic, and made the comment that he'd make a great coach.

    Double sombrero night.

Jorge passed it on to Michael Burgess.

It's been a tough stretch for The River, as he's 0-19 in his last 4 games. Hopefully last night was the nadir and he can get himself back on track.

Got some question for anyone that knows what they are talking about...

I'm admittedly a bit of a fair-whethered fan when it comes to the Astros. I love the Astros and love to watch good baseball. Lately, those two things havent mixed, as we all know. I remember about 3-4 years ago that the Nationals were the worst team in the league, piling up 2-3 strait #1 picks. Correct me if im wrong, but we will have our 3rd strait #1 pick this year, right? The Nats struck gold with those picks getting Strasburg and Harper and are now possibly the best team in the NL. So my question is, how long should it be before the Astros turn these number 1 picks into major league players and start winning again? I know we got a stud shortstop with one of those #1 picks, heard someone compare him to a young Arod. How do our other prospects look? And when can we expect to see these guys starring in the major's?

Also, Ive watched a little bit so far this year and really like what I see from some of the guys, especially Maxwell. Is he a player that could be an all-star caliber guy? And how much potential does this team have THIS YEAR? I know nobody expected them to do anything, but is it possible to at least be respectable?

I've been pretty checked out of MLB for 2-3 years now (or ever since we traded Berkman, Oswalt, and Pence in one season) and I would really like to get back into it, but it's hard to watch bad baseball. Im really hoping the Astros can be exciting soon so I can enjoy being a fan again.

This year will be the Astros 2nd #1 overall draft pick. Their pick last year, Carlos Correa, could reach the majors as early as late 2014 if he cruises through every level. Right now he's doing very well at Low-A Quad Cities as an 18 year old. More likely we won't see him on the major league team until 2015 though.

The Nationals got very lucky having their back-to-back #1 overall draft choices in years that there was a "once in a generation" consensus #1 guy. Astros didn't have that luxury last year and won't this year. This year as the draft draws closer it's looking like #1 will end up being Mark Appel or Johnathan Gray, both college SP who could move quick through the system.

I really don't think Justin Maxwell is in the team's long term plans. Outside of Altuve, and maybe Chris Carter, I don't see any all-star caliber players on this roster; and even they are fringe level all-stars. The team will be constantly changing as the future wave of prospects begin making their debut over the next few seasons. These prospects are beginning to get a lot of accolades and leading the minor league organizations to a brilliant start. I've seen the Astros minor league system ranked as high as 4th overall.

As for this year's team, I really like what Bo Porter is doing. Their fun to watch and to root for, and I think they could improve over last year's record. If the starting pitching can remain above average then I could see them overachieving to a 72-90 season or so. I think a lot of us are hoping that they land a third #1 overall to select Carlos Rodon out of NC State; a top of the rotation lefty who has drawn comparison's to David Price.

Anyway, I'm expecting the big league team to begin taking steps forward in 2014, being relevant in 2015, and competing for a playoff spot in 2016.

The nationals also didn't have a cap on how much money they could spend. I agree it is helpful though since players are able to slide, like McCullers.

Astros affiliates were 1-2 in furious late-inning rallies.

Mike Foltynewicz looked to get himself going after two rough outings to start the season.

    Recap

    Memphis 8, Oklahoma City 7

All the scoring that the Redbirds needed came in the form of 4 runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. After OKC got an RBI double from Brandon Laird in the 1st which gave them the lead, Memphis proceeded to tear up Jose Cisnero. The Redhawks would respond with 6 unanswered, but they fell just short, as Jake Elmore, representing the tying run, was stranded at 2nd to end the game.

Offensively, everyone had at least one hit except for Robbie Grossman, who drew a walk and struck out twice. Laird finished 2-4, adding a solo shot (2) in the 4th off former Aggie Michael Wacha. Also in the 4th, Che-Hsuan Lin had an RBI groundout. Jason Jaramillo had an RBI single in the 7th, while in the 8th, Jimmy Paredes ripped a double that scored Trevor Crowe. Paredes would score on Marc Krauss' blast, his 3rd of the season and 2nd in as many nights.

Jose Cisnero had an outing that he'd like to forget, as Memphis got all 8 off of him in 2 2/3 innings. He allowed 7 hits (grand slam), walked 4, and struck out 2. Kevin Chapman cleaned up the mess, as he fired 2 1/3 scoreless, allowing a hit and striking out 2. Rudy Owens tagged in and was excellent in his 4 scoreless, allowing 3 hits, walking 1, and fanning 7.

Game 3 of this series will be at 2:05. Jordan Lyles and Ross Seaton will be today's tandem; opposing them for Memphis will be Tyler Lyons.

    Corpus Christi 3, Springfield 2

Jake Buchanan shook off a 2-run homer from Jake Lemmerman in the bottom of the 1st and had an otherwise solid performance. He went 5 innings and allowed 3 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Carlos Quevedo, who has replaced Ross Seaton as Buchanan's partner, threw 2 2/3 scoreless and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. He left with runners on 2nd and 3rd after he struck out Xavier Scruggs in the 8th. Quevedo gave way to Alex Sogard, who got Adam Melker to look at strike three to end the threat. Jason Stoffel earned his 3rd save of the season, working around 2 hits to strike out Neal Pritchard to end the game.

The only runs that were batted in came courtesy of Carlos Perez. In fact, he was responsible for all 3 Hooks runs, driving in 2 and scoring 1 himself. He grounded into a force out in the 4th, which resulted in him reaching safely, Domingo Santana scoring, and Enrique Hernandez being thrown out at 2nd. A single from Erik Castro moved him to 3rd, and he eventually scored, crossing home before Castro became the final out of the inning trying to steal 2nd. Perez would give the Hooks the lead on an RBI double in the 6th; he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Perez, Santana, and Castro each had 2-4 nights. George Springer's recent volatility continued as he went 0-3 with a walk and a hat trick.

The Hooks are on their way to Tulsa, where they'll play 3. The first game of the new series will be this afternoon, at 2:05. The team of Nick Tropeano and Bobby Doran will go up against Tyler Matzek.

    Modesto 6, Lancaster 4

A late rally from the Nuts spoiled Mike Foltynewicz's strong start for the Jethawks. He threw 5 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and fanning 5. Of the outs that were put into play, 8 were groundouts and 2 were flyouts. Modesto probably got tired of Foltynewicz running roughshod on them.

Foltynewicz left with Lancaster leading 3-0; the Nuts would go on a 6-1 run over the final 3 1/2 innings. Facing his former organization and most of his former teammates with Asheville, Alex Gillingham was roughed up. He only lasted 1 1/3 and allowed 5 runs (2 inherited) on 5 hits and struck out 1. For the 2nd straight night, Jonas Dufek allowed inherited runners to score. He also allowed one of his own in the 8th, serving up a solo shot to Ryan Casteel. Dufek would allow one other hit, walked 1, and fanned 1 in 1 1/3. Blair Walters got the final out of the 8th.

Everyone had a hit except for Andrew Aplin and Drew Muren. Tyler Heineman broke out of a slump by going 2-3 with an RBI single in the 2nd to put the Jethawks on the board first. Matt Duffy, who also went 2-3, hit a 2-run double in the 4th. Zach Johnson was 2-5 with an RBI triple in the 7th. Delino DeShields returned to the lineup; he went 2-5 with a strikeout. He didn't attempt a steal.

The Jethawks will look to earn a series split in the finale, which will be this afternoon at 1:05 Pacific. Brady Rodgers and Chris Devenski will face Nuts southpaw Tyler Anderson.

    Quad Cities 8, Peoria 6

The big inning characterized this game. The Chiefs only scored in 2 innings, but they put up 3 in the 2nd and the top of the 6th. The River Bandits responded with 4 in the 3rd and 3 in the bottom of the 6th. QC took advantage of 5 Chiefs errors to eke out the win.

Daniel Makarewicz covers the River Bandits for The Dispatch/The Rock Island Argus, which is primarily distributed on the Illinois side of the Quad Cities. Steve Batterson covers the River Bandits for the Quad-City Times, which is more widely distributed in the QC area.

Joe Sclafani was 2-4 with a sac fly in the 3rd for the River Bandits' first run of the night. One batter later, Jesse Wierzbicki ripped a 2-run triple for his only hit of the evening. Rio Ruiz's slump continues; he's now 0-22 in his last 5 games, dropping his average to .103. He did, however, drive in a run on a force play in the 3rd and also drew a walk. Teoscar Hernandez went 1-2 with a run scored; according to Steve Batterson, he was taken out early after getting hit by a pitch on his leg.

Quad Cities took the lead in the 6th with 3 runs and some help from the Peoria defense. Jobduan Morales walked to lead off the inning, then after Ariel Ovando flied out, Jordan Scott singled and advanced to 2nd on an error by Chiefs LF Breyvic Valera. Morales took 3rd and one batter later, would score on a passed ball. Carlos Perdomo drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Ryan Dineen bunted into a force play for the 2nd out, allowing Scott to score. Sclafani then singled. Jesse Wierzbicki struck out on a wild pitch, but was able to reach safely, and an errant throw from Chiefs catcher Geoffrey Klein allowed Dineen to score the go-ahead run and also allowed Wierzbicki to take 2nd. Perdomo would score the final QC run by stealing 2nd and coming around to score on 2 Peoria errors on the same play.

Jordan Jankowski allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 3 1/3. He walked 1 and struck out 2. Gera Sanchez threw 1 2/3 scoreless as the bridge, allowing a hit and striking out 3. Brian Holmes allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and struck out 3 in 4 innings of work.

Vince Velasquez and Joe Bircher will look to maintain their early success in the series finale, which starts at 2 PM. Opposing them for Peoria will be Tyrell Jenkins, who is a Texas guy. A native of Henderson, he spurned an offer to play wideout at Baylor to sign with the Cardinals. Also, he was born the day after I was.

    Three Stars

    3.

    Carlos Perez, C, Corpus Christi
    2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R

He's been splitting time with Rene Garcia to open the season, presumably to see who runs away with the everyday catcher job in Corpus. Whoever wins that battle could see a boon in their prospect status, as there's really no serious competition blocking them.

    2.

    Rudy Owens, P, Oklahoma City
    4 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K

Although the Redhawks couldn't complete the comeback, his effort on the mound as the piggybacker kept Memphis at bay and allowed his offense to claw back into the game.

    1.

    Mike Foltynewicz, P, Lancaster
    5 IP, 3 H, 5 K

This was a much-needed outing from Foltynewicz, whose first two outings left a lot to be desired. I do believe that he'll make his way to Corpus sometime in July.

    Honorable Mentions

Kevin Chapman, P, Oklahoma City: His contributions shouldn't go unnoticed, as he cleaned up Jose Cisnero's mess and helped prevent any further damage.

Brandon Laird, 3B, Oklahoma City: His ETA to Houston is getting shorter every time Brett Wallace doesn't get on base.

Matt Duffy, 3B, Lancaster: Don't call him Lance Berkman. His 2-run double gave him the organization lead in RBI. It's possible that he could earn a midseason promotion to Corpus if he continues to produce.

Carlos Quevedo, P, Corpus Christi: Quevedo has really thrived since being shifted to the bullpen. He's a guy who I've been watching for a while, mainly because he issues so few walks. His control along with Jake Buchanan's propensity to induce groundouts could make for an interesting tandem.

Yikes. Jose Cisnero had flashbacks of Lancaster in this outing...

A dishonorable mention goes to George Springer for being the only player in the system with a hat trick last night.

Looks like that Triple A tandem may break up sooner than expected. John Ely is going to join Alex White on the dl with Tommy John surgery. With Clemens called up, they may not even need a tandem system there anymore.

Nick Tropeano took the hill for Corpus today in Tulsa. How did he fare?

Vince Velasquez and Joe Bircher look to continue their roll.

    Recap

    Memphis 10, Oklahoma City 3

The Redhawks actually had a 3-1 lead after the 3rd; unfortunately, the Redbirds ran away with 9 unanswered. Robbie Grossman was 2-3 with 2 walks and a run scored. Fernando Martinez began his rehab assignment today; he served as the DH and hit 3rd, going 0-3 with an RBI groundout in the 3rd and struck out twice. Jake Elmore had an RBI double, and Brandon Laird was 2-5 with an RBI single. Trevor Crowe went 3-4.

Jordan Lyles went 5 and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits (solo homer) and struck out 3. Ross Seaton was thrashed in his 3 innings, allowing 7 runs on 6 hits (2-run homer), walking 2, and fanning 1. Josh Zeid allowed his first run of the season on 2 hits and did not strike out anyone for the first time this season.

The Redhawks and Redbirds will wrap up the series tomorrow at 7:05, with Wes Musick and Jarred Cosart taking on Nick Additon.

    Tulsa 6, Corpus Christi 2

Unfortunately, Nick Tropeano didn't fare too well this afternoon. He did go 5, but he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits (2-run homer), walked 1, and struck out 4. Bobby Doran went 3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 2. They got the TCG in a losing effort.

The Hooks were held to 5 hits in this game. Carlos Perez went 2-4 with a run scored. George Springer had an RBI single in the 7th; Jio Mier scored the 2nd run thanks to a Tulsa error. Mier grounded into an RBI force out in the 9th. Domingo Santana (3) and Austin Wates (5) had steals.

The middle game of the series will start at noon tomorrow... Asher Wojciechowski and David Martinez will be the pairing. They'll go up against Dan Houston.

    Lancaster 6, Modesto 1

The Jethawks earned the split behind a solid pitching performance from Brady Rodgers and Chris Devenski, but they also put up a nickel on the board in the top of the 8th.

Rodgers got off the schneid by going 5 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 1, and striking out 5. Devenski shut it down for the TCG, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and fanning 7 in the final 4 innings.

M.P. Cokinos put the Jethawks in front with a solo shot in the top of the 4th, his first of the season. Trevor Story, an Irving native, answered for the Nuts with an RBI double in the bottom half. The game would remain tied at 1 until the 8th, when Matt Duffy clubbed a 3-run shot (4). Andrew Aplin capped it off with a 2-run triple later in the inning. Aplin, Cokinos, Preston Tucker, and Brandon Meredith all had 2 hits.

Also worth noting is that Delino DeShields left in the 5th. Precaution? Re-aggravation of finger injury?

The Jethawks will now travel much a much shorter distance for the next leg of their roadtrip, as they make the 55-mile jaunt to Adelanto to open up a series against the High Desert Mavericks. Tyson Perez and David Rollins will take the hill for the Jethawks. Their counterpart has yet to be determined. First pitch in this game will be at 7:05 Pacific.

    Quad Cities 3, Peoria 2

The River Bandits took the series behind the arms of Vince Velasquez and Joe Bircher. Velasquez has gone 5 in both of his starts and 4 in his piggyback appearance, so he's appeared in 14 out of a possible 14 innings this season. Today, he allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. This game was characterized by groundouts. The River Bandits got 20 of them, with Velasquez getting a dozen, Joe Bircher getting 6, and John Neely chipping in 2. Speaking of Bircher, he went 3 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits and struck out 2. Neely got the save, getting a double play to end it after allowing a single to Charlie Tilson.

Carlos Correa was held out of the lineup again due to back tightness. Carlos Perdomo got the start in his stead and went 2-3 with a run scored. After Alex Mejia's single put the Chiefs up 1-0, Rio Ruiz tied it in the 2nd with a solo shot, his 1st of the season. Jordan Scott executed a squeeze which resulted in Perdomo scoring the go-ahead run in the 5th. One batter later, Jesse Wierzbicki's RBI single was good for the River Bandits' final run.

Quad Cities will now begin the 2nd leg of their homestand as they welcome the Clinton LumberKings to Modern Woodmen Park. Lance McCullers and Dan Minor will be the welcoming committee on the mound. Their opponent is yet to be determined. First pitch is at 7.

The Astros' A affiliates will be doing battle with the Mariners' A affiliates in their upcoming series.

    Andrew Aplin, CF, Lancaster

    Duffy: 3-R HR (4) in 8th
    Aplin: 2-5, 2-R 3B in 8th

Lance Berkman's lookalike (according to leroy) has just opened a can on the Cali League. He could end up in Corpus sooner rather than later if Jonathan Meyer continues to scuffle at the plate.

Aplin, despite drawing 5 walks against 2 strikeouts, has been the victim of a .192 BABIP. His numbers should return to the mean as the year goes on.

    Chris Devenski, P, Lancaster
    Win (2-0), 4 IP, 2 H, BB, 7 K

I admit that I wasn't too thrilled when Devenski was announced as the PTBNL. However, the no-hitter in Lexington put him on the prospect map. After finding that he was a converted position player, I found myself more intrigued as this is a guy with not many miles on his arm. And a power arm, too!

For more on Devenski, here's his interview with WTHB.

    Honorable Mentions

M.P. Cokinos, C, Lancaster: Tyler Heineman gets the lion's share of playing time, but Cokinos has done well spelling him. Seems like a guy who can hit a bit.

Vince Velasquez, P, Quad Cities: Appearing in every inning in each of his outings? Check. Being brutally effective in all of them? That's a huge check there.

Joe Bircher, P, Quad Cities: Obviously he's less highly-regarded than his partner, but he's gotten off to a nice start himself.

Brady Rodgers, P, Lancaster: Needed an outing like this one after a rocky first two appearances.

Eww.. sorry guys, if you clicked the link to 1360, you'd be getting Rush Limbaugh.

The Hooks are on 1400 AM this afternoon. Good news, its an iHeartRadio station as well.

It might be my poor hearing, but I think Asher Wojciechowski just threw a 99 MPH fastball.

You could hear it all the way from here? Has to be faster than 99 then.
