Now let's get German! Jim Callis (@jimcallisBA): #Astros sign 10th-rder Austin Nicely for $610k. Virginia HS LHP, projectable 6-2/175 w/promising fastball & curve, UVA commit. #mlbdraft
Phenomenal job by Luhnow and crew on getting all of these guys signed. All we have left to sign out of our top 10 are Emanuel and Holberton and both should get done after the CWS. Not only could we get German but we could get one or two more HS guys with the rest of the money. Maybe we go hard after Clemens.
Man, buying into our minor league hype lol. Can't wait for our guys to start contributing in the big leagues.
$139,400. The reported Appel signing left over enough to make a nice run on Nicely and German. I believe the slot for German and all other players taken after the 10th round is 100k, if I remember correctly.
Indeed. Nicely got 3rd round money. The number I've seen with German is $300k, so we have plenty of money to get him, as we have $1.65M we could pay over slot without losing a 1st round pick.
BOOM! Awesome job. Would have thought Nicely would get more than that, but man this has been a pretty exciting draft now that we've signed these guys.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I also think that when someone signs for more than $100K, his actual bonus is subtracted by $100,000, and the difference is subtracted from the bonus pool. Example: Devonte German signs for $325,000. That's $225K over the slot for 11th-40th round picks, and so $225,000 is subtracted from the pool. I'm also not sure when Santos signed, but I saw his name on the GCL roster. I was surprised that he even considered signing, to be honest.
EDIT-Thanks for clearing that up for me, tellitlikeitis. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So I just saw that Berman tweeted this about 45 minutes ago: Spoiler <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Agent Adam Groff says LHP Austin Nicely, Astros 10th-round pick, gets a bonus of $610K plus $150K for school.</p>— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkBermanFox26/statuses/347806370805993472">June 20, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Agent Adam Groff on LHP Austin NIcely, Astros 10th-round pick, getting $150K for school."The Astros went above & beyond what they had to do."</p>— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkBermanFox26/statuses/347807339237224448">June 20, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> He words it as if Nicely will get that 150k on top of his signing bonus. Does that mean he'll count as 760k towards our bonus pool, or is that 150k something separate?
150K for school? that's a lot. Could it be possible the astros lower the signing bonus and give more "school money" to save more of our draft budget? (Talking in general, not what they did to nicely)
Glad to see the Astros got their 5-star special! Just eyeballing it, there's about $1m left to go over-slot. I'd assume Emanuel and Holbertson get around slot - though you may have go a bit above since Holbertson has been hitting well since the draft it seems. Just a WAG: German gets 4-500K, and go after Schick, Pinero, and Burke for 2-300K each?
