Jamal Crawford took 23 shots while CP3 scored only 2pts tonight. This does not sound like a game they wanted.

I see the Clippers sliding to the fourth seed if the Rockets win the next 2 games.
Rockets: 57ish wins, with us splitting the OKC and Spurs games, 58. Most likely 2-3 losses in the last 12, to finish 9-3 or 10-2.

76ers W
Clippers W
@Brooklyn W
@ Toronto L
OKC W/L
Denver W
@ Lakers W
@ Denver W
@ TWolves W
Pelicans W
Spurs W/L
@Pelicans W

Clippers:
@Dallas L
@Houston L
@Minnesota W
@Pheonix W
Dallas W
Lakers W
OKC L
Sacramento W
Denver W
Portland L (Portland will need to win to get position, Clippers will want to lose to play Portland in playoffs)

Clippers have 2-3 games they probably lose (Houston, OKC, Portland), but have another 3 or so that are somewhat challenging games against Phoenix and Minnesota on the road, and Dallas at home.

If Houston wins our next 2, I think the odds are better than even that the Rockets get the 3rd seed.

You can just say if we win on Saturday. No one loses to Philly.

We need to win all of these gimme games, no more let downs. Home court advantage is VERY important during the playoffs.

Clinched the #9 seed

Here is the latest batch of Magic Numbers after all games were played on 3/26.

Clippers make it interesting
The Pelicans are a bad team but have a winning record at home and had won three straight. Still the Clippers were expected to take this game and likely would have if Chris Paul hadn’t gone arctic cold in a 98-96 loss. Anthony Morrow led the Pelicans with 27 points, and Anthony Davis added 16 points, 13 boards and 6 blocks. Blake Griffin finished with a respectable 21 points and 8 rebounds, but Chris Paul scored only 2 points and shot a goose egg 0-12. He did also contribute 12 assists in the loss. With that the Rockets and Clippers are tied in the loss column again, and we control our destiny for the #3 seed. The Clippers lose a Magic Number and go to Dallas then to Houston for a huge matchup in the 3-4 battle.

Spurs keep winning
The Spurs hosted the Nuggets and rolled out a huge lead and then held on for a 108-103 victory that sees their winning streak go to 15. Timmy scored a team high 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Danny Green scored 16 before leaving with a foot injury (mri scheduled tomorrow). The Spurs Express is in full gear, and I’m not so sure I want to face them in the second round. They are a near lock for the #1 seed in the West and a certainty for home court if they reach the Finals. AB led the Nuggets with 25 points and 8 assists.

Suns and Grizz keep pace
Memphis didn’t come out to play like a team locked in a dogfight for playoff seeding and let the woefully bad but scrappy Utah Jazz lead most of the game before rallying for a 91-87 victory that keeps them in the #7 spot. ZBo had a team high 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Mike Conley and Marc Gasol added 19 and 18 respectively. Memphis wins its third straight and maintains its one game lead on Dallas and Phoenix.

The potent Dragon-Bledsoe combo kept rolling and drove their team to a 99-93 victory over the Wizards. Dragon finished with 25 points, 6 assists, and 7 boards, and Eric Bledsoe had 23 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. That’s 5 straight for Phoenix, and they stay even with Dallas. John Wall led the Wizard with 29 points and 6 assists.

Cellar Dwellers
The Wolves beat up on the pathetically bad and #8 East seed Hawks in a 107-83. Rookie Gorgui Dieng had another impressive game with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and Free Kevin Love! had a subdued 14 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Scott led the Hawks with 15.

Gimme time
The Rockets get tossed a softball when Sam Hinkie’s Tanking Machine rolls into Houston. This is a game the Rockets should win with even a token effort, but if they don’t come to play Sam Hinkie’s Tanking Machine is prepared to counter by not fouling Dwight and other measures to ensure defeat. We should blow this open and rest the starters for Saturday’s game.

Thursday Games
Clippers at Mavericks is the big game of the night, and it’ll be interesting to see the latest etch-a-sketch standings afterwards. The Blazers hope to get LaMarcus Aldridge back and curtail their plummet in the standings.

Clippers at Mavericks, Blazers at Hawks

I have no idea, but I just laugh like a damn hieyna after Scribo mentions the Sam Hinkie Tanking Machine. lol

I swear somebody ought to make a Sam Hinkie Tanking Machine and make money out of it.

If the Rockets beat the Sixers tonight as they should, and the Clippers fall to the Mavs, they'll move into 3rd place heading into Saturday night's big matchup.

Even if the Clips beat the Mavs, if we beat them (assuming we beat Philly LOL), we still take 3rd due to win %.

Yes, but I'd rather be defending the 3rd spot going into Saturday then trying to move up to it.:grin:

do we really want to play OKC in round 2 rather than SAS?

I honestly don't care. Neither will be an easy opponent and barring a major collapse by OKC coupled with a great finish to the season by the Rockets that moves them into 2nd place, we'd be going on the road against either one.

The reason I want the Rockets to shoot for the 3rd seed(and even the 2nd although that's a long shot) is that a team this young needs home court in as many rounds as possible. It's not outside the realm of possibility that if either Memphis or Dallas winds up in the 7th seed, that they knock off OKC. Then the Rockets would be rewarded with a 2nd round matchup(assuming they beat their own 1st round opponent) where they'll have home court advantage. That could also happen if they're the 4th seed, but the odds are a lot less likely.

I believe we will pass OKC and move into the #2 spot by the end of the season.

This means that a 2nd rd matchup against OKC would be with home court advantage, and that is a HUGE deal.

#2 this year is ideal - I don't believe we will be able to catch SA, even though I do think we will win out and end the reg season on a 16-game winning streak ourselves.

But we are not afraid of the Spurs, and the more we win, the longer it will take SA to clinch #1, meaning it puts more pressure on them to keep playing their starters more minutes when Pop would otherwise be resting them. By the time the WCF roll around, that will be the perfect time to catch them - worn out against the Clips and ready for us to eat them alive.

Yes, these ARE rose-colored glasses, thank you, why do you ask? :)

My revised ideal and realistic playoff standings

1. Spurs
2. OKC
3. Rockets
4. Clips
5. GSW
6. Portland
7. Memphis
8. Dallas

- Rockets get home court against the Blazers first round.
- I actually believe Memphis could cause OKC problems so hopefully Memphis wins that.
- Rockets get homecourt against Memphis 2nd round and onto the WCF!!

Uh, you do realize that OKC has the tie-breaker, right?

We're 3.5 games back of OKC, but really it's 4 games back with 10ish games to go.

Under WHAT scenario do you see us getting the 2 seed over OKC? :confused:

We win out and they lose enough games to fall below us. Remember, we play them once here - we will win that, so they only need to lose 3 other games.

They still play San Antonio, at the Clips and at Indiana. They could easily lose those. And that is not even counting a tough game at Phoenix and a potentially hard game in New Orleans (who just beat the Clips there).

Yeah, it will take everything breaking right, but it's not something I said just out of the blue.

I'm still holding out hope for the 2nd seed, but it's a long shot at best. That choke job by Toronto the other night really hurt. The problem we have is that OKC has only 11 games left. Even if we assume the Rockets beat them next week at Toyota Center, we'd still have to make up 3 games on them in those remaining 10. Now looking at the Thunder's schedule, I do see 3 or 4 games they could definitely lose, but even if that happened, it means the Rockets would have to lose no more than 1 game the rest of the way.

So it's definitely possible, but it would require an amazing finish to the season by the Rockets.

Yah, breaking right is one way of putting it.

I'd put it right up there with a 6-team parlay. Sure, it's *possible*, but you sure wouldn't want to be the house on it.

Catch the Clippers? That I can buy. OKC or the Spurs? No... I'm not even going to pretend to hold out hope for that short of Durant being injured/ill or Pops being kidnapped.

No, I looked at it every which way, and I agree, I don't think we can catch the Spurs, no matter what. But we CAN keep the pressure on them to keep playing their starters longer.

But catching the Thunder is within the realm of possibility, and all the pressure is on them, with us breathing down their necks.

And remember, they have our best friend on their roster in Westbrook. He's great, but he's also a berserk disaster waiting to happen in any given game, and pressure is NOT his friend.

On the other side of the coin - what games to you BELIEVE the Rockets will lose between now and the end of the year? Yes, we have SA, Clips and Thunder remaining, but they are all here at home. I believe we will win those. So, who else? Denver on the road makes me nervous, but other than that, we should be expected to win every game remaining.

Ya gotta BELIEVE!

Here are the games I worry about:

LA Clippers - Yes, it's a home game, we're playing well, and we'll be rested unlike last time in LA, but it's still a team we're 0-3 against and that's been on a tear of their own.

@ Brooklyn - The Nets are playing better lately. It's a game the Rockets should win, but the same could've been said about Chicago a couple weeks ago and look how that turned out.

@ Toronto - A winnable game, but it's on a B2B in a place that's been very unkind to the Rockets over the years. Plus the Raptors are one of the only respectable teams in the Leastern Conference outside of the Pacers and Heat.

OKC - Much like the Clippers game, the Rockets will be rested for once(and the Thunder will be on a B2B). But still, we're 0-3 against them.

@ Denver - The 2nd night of a B2B in that altitude against an improved Nuggets team. And God help us if Aaron Brooks decides to light us up like many former Rockets tend to do.

New Orleans - What? The Pelicans, you ask? Yes, it's a game the Rockets should win, but New Orleans has been playing better lately and this will be their 4th game in 5 nights.

San Antonio - The Rockets have had their way with the Spurs this season, but it'll be the 5th game in 7 nights and San Antonio's been on a tear. My hope is that Pop rests a bunch of his players as the team will almost certainly have locked up home court by then.

@ New Orleans - Winnable, but New Orleans is no pushover at home. They just beat the Clippers there last night and took out Miami recently.
