Tonight's win gives the Chicago Blackhawks their 2500th win in franchise history. And..... uh..... Pat Foley weirded me out a bit at the end. Tells Patrick Sharp's wife to get preggo more often, as good things happen to him on the ice what that happens. Yeah.
Since the last time I posted in this thread, the Blues' torrid start to the season has been slowed. They got fleeced this past Tuesday against the Sharks at home and then they lost in a shootout to the Jets last night. It's not all bad, though. That shootout win against the Blackhawks on Thursday night was nice.
Lots of teams that appeared invincible are falling back to earth. Coyotes torched the Red Wings tonight. It's weird having Detroit in the East. Bertuzzi scored tonight... can't believe that turd is still playing NHL hockey. And Mike Smith gets his first goal tonight!!!
Your point about Bertuzzi is interesting. His sucker punch on Steve Moore was one of the last things I distinctly remember about hockey back when I was casually following the sport through the games on ESPN. Now that I'm trying to get into hockey, I wondered the other day about whatever happened to Todd Bertuzzi and was shocked to find out that he is still in the league.
Yeah. He "appeared" repentant after that incident.. but it still doesn't sit right with me that he ended a guys' entire career and is still playing professionally. Moore eventually filed suit against Bertuzzi for 'lost income' (I think it's still in the courts). Bertuzzi turned around and sued his own coach (Crawford) saying it was his orders & therefore his fault. Unreal. Anyway.... on a more positive note, it's great to see old legendary players still going strong like Daniel Alfredsson (also on the Red Wings) and Teemu Selanne. 22 NHL seasons... that's a lot of mileage. Coyotes win again tonight. I'm enjoying my favorite team's season so far.
In the middle of October, the Blues have a full week off and it's driving me nuts. It also doesn't make a ton of sense to me. In a season that is going to be interrupted by the Olympics, you would think they would have tried to avoid huge gaps in games early in the season.
This is my semi-annual sulking NHL thread post. I really like hockey. And I really wish my city had a team to represent it so I could have a legitimate rooting interest.
To this day Betruzzi gets booed everytime he touches the puck at the Pepsi Center. As an Av fan he still riles me up everytime I see him on the ice. A low moment for the NHL for sure.
Avs looking like the real deal through 13 games so far. Still early, but I really think they can keep this up. Central is going to be a pretty tough div.
At first I thought it was a fluke. But 11 games in I think the Avs are the real deal. Last year Downie was out the whole year, Landeskog was injured for just about the entire year and O'Reilly has the contract situation that affected his play. This year those are all resolved and MacKinnon is contributing with McGinn and Parenteau on his line giving us three solid scoring lines. Also Roy has improved Varlamov's game by helping him with his body and glove hand positioning. I still think the Blackhawks and Blues are the class of the divison, but the Avs are the next best team and should make the playoffs.
Am I OK to root for the Stars? I feel they are really my only hope of truly following a team unless I splurge for the Center Ice (I'm not) or I just say screw it and become a Red Wings fan (eh). The latter is only an option because one of my closest friends is from Michigan and is a huge fan.
