That's pretty overblown. Boats routinely fly flags of Caribbean countries (or countries like Liberia) because that allows them to follow the rules of the local country rather than their home country. Its a good way of skirting environmental laws and safety regulations.

As deplorable as flags of convenience are, they're the reality of a good number of ships in the world so I cant really fault Mitt on that.

That said, you should be smart enough to put up an American flag when you know you're under this level of scrutiny.

Was there a quote from Christie saying this? You posted that NY Post article (tabloid) but I don't recall them attributing their story to Christie himself. Not only that, but your summation of why they said he didn't run is missing some key points. They didn't say he didn't accept the VP slot because he knew he'd lose, they said he didn't accept it because he didn't want to give up being governor in case they lost. That article said he actually wanted the slot and his team tried hard to find a way around the pay to play laws in NJ that were the barrier.

In another thread I was praising the blitzkrieg by the GOP this week, but the little things like this are either shockingly stupid or brass ball hubris. Rich guys just got to do rich guy things I guess. And you can't sell Romney without selling contradiction. That's nothing new for the Clean Coal guys from Madison Avenue. It doesn't matter what he thinks or says anyway really, he's just a placeholder for those guy on the Yacht.

I actually thought it was very smart not to focus on Mitt Romney. I didn't see the speech, so I can't comment on how effective it was, but Ann Romney was the one who was trying to sell and humanize Mitt. I think the rest of these speakers need to be trying to sell the GOP itself and its overall message - people don't like Mitt Romney, and that's not going to change no matter how much random politicians talk about how great he is.

What the party needs to do is convince everyone that they have ideas to fix things, and then get people to vote for Mitt by default. In theory, Christie is a good person to relay that message. I don't know if that was Christie's intent, but I think it was the right way to do the speech - fix the reputation of the party, rather than try to convince people to like Mitt Romney himself.

I know how it works. I just can't believe they would be that stupid to go all in on over-the-top displays of nationalism and then have a party on a Cayman Islands boat, especially when that's the same place Romney has been hiding money. Plus, the name of the boat will not do them any favors.

    Tone deaf.

Only candidate that could have beaten Obama was Huntsman...but as soon as he said science was real he had no chance of winning the nomination.

Why on earth does anyone name a boat "Cracker Bay?"

I guess it's slightly better than Bay of Crackers?
