If NO matches then Gordon is signed. NO would not be allowed to trade Gordon for 1 year without his permission. NO would not be allowed to trade Gordon to Phoenix under any condition.

aelliott is right (as usual). Plus, more importantly to the Rockets' immediate plans, if NO matches an offer sheet for Gordon, they CANNOT trade him--with or without his consent--until December 15 at the earliest.

Chuck, it sounds like what you are suggesting is for NO and Houston to work out a sign-and-trade deal anyway and then hope the Hornets can convince Gordon to back out of his agreement with Phoenix. While that has rarely (if ever) been done, it's at least possible. If NO can truly convince Gordon and his agent that a match is inevitable, and if Gordon would be happier making the max in Houston than in NO, I suppose that glimmer of hope is still there.

    Very small glimmer, though.

Gordon is gone. He wants to go to PHX. I suspect his next move is to threaten NO that he will take the QO and walk away next season after this coming season for nothing unless they let him go or S&T him to PHX only. He wants to go to PHX.

A 40 inch vertical isn't good lift? I seriously doubt you've seen him play. Store. Don't let his build fool you. He plays above the rim. Read any scouting report on him, the first thing it will talk about is his explosion.

He isn't a max player, just plain and simple. Won't amount to a superstar. Count on it.

When healthy he is. That is the consensus. Superstars arent coming here, and we dont draft well.

Sometimes you have to take these types of risks.

I politefully disagree. We draft very well. We hardly ever draft unproductive players.

it's cause all Houston reality shows are about fat people and midgets. and lovely summer weather. if you go downtown on Sundays, you feel like tom hanks in castaway.

who wouldn't wanna go to Houston? blame Obama for making NASA irrelevant.

And that's the mark of a great drafter, everybody knows who the top pick is gonna be, those guys are obvious. Roleplayers show you know what to look for in the masses of potential draftees.

Or are you saying we suck because we didn't draft LBJ with the 14th pick?

I agree the glimmer is very small. However, while NBA players has rarely (if ever) backed out of a verbal commitment to sign, Eric Gordon has, in fact, done this. And the guy who got Eric Gordon to do it now works for the Rockets.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Eric Gordon has mad hops to go along with his deadeye shooting. And Gordon may be short but he's no tweener, he's a SG all the way. Not to mention he has better shot selection and is a better defender than Stevie Francis.

Regardless where EJ ends up, your arguments are clearly biased and based strictly on web chatter as you know nothing about this player.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I'm not well-versed with the cba but the way I see it, is that he either is simply using PHX's cap situation to set his market price for NO to match or he actually wants to play for the suns and is saying all the right things to force the situation.

But if that was the case, isn't he actually hurting his chances of playing in PHX by signing the offer sheet knowing NO would match while at the same time saying comments, whether posturing or not, that would make fans feel he doesn't want to stay in NO. I guess that's why I thought Houston was in good position for a S&T. Gordon would still get his money, plus NO would get "assets" that are more ideal with their team's current build. I don't see them wanting Gortat on the books when they aren't close to competing.

Not sure why, but this post made me giggle and left me confused and depressed at the same time. I think the most surprising part is that "it's" had an apostrophe... nice!

Seriously. Rockets fans, tweet @TheOfficialEG10 and tell him why signing an offer sheet with Phoenix is a BAD IDEA. Sadly for him, he's just TOO GOOD for that strategy to work. Sure, a lesser RFA could sign a lucrative offer sheet that his prior team would balk at matching. But when you are the caliber of an Eric Gordon, that just doesn't work.

I honestly think Gordon and his agent are playing this all wrong.

First of all, if this is about going to Phoenix, it's not going to work. New Orleans will match the offer--ANY offer--and Gordon will be stuck with the Hornets for another four years or until New Orleans decides to trade him.

If this is all about the money, then this strategy also doesn't work. There is a long line of teams willing to give him the max salary over four years. In fact, signing an offer sheet only helps New Orleans lock him up cheaper than the five-year max deal the Hornets could otherwise give him.

Maybe Gordon, Phoenix and New Orleans can work out a S&T using some of those picks the Suns just picked up from the Lakers. If so, then so be it. Gordon will be happy at his #1 preferred destination. But unless that scenario plays out, or unless Gordon clearly prefers New Orleans over Houston (another possibility), he's not going to get what he wants.

This is very unlike me. I'm not one for big Twitter appeals. But at this point, I think it's worth a shot.

    WHO'S WITH ME???

(IBT "not me" replies. :p )

    Done Bima.

And guys..... paying him the max, isn't that bad because his max is actually only about 13 mill a season because he is still in his 4th year. (From Bima+Clutch podcast :) )
