What a horrible call. The fans shouldn't be throwing stuff on the field, but I understand their frustration.
I'm watching a baseball game and a central American soccer match broke out, complete with shoddy officiating and stuff being thrown on the field.
How does the SS Kozma call off the LF then last second turns around and as if he's looking at the LF "Why didn't you catch that?" Gotta catch that ball. Kozma also botched the double play earlier in the inning.
The speculation on tv was that he heard the umpire calling the infield fly and either peeled off because of that or he thought the umpire was the left fielder calling him off.
The game is now being played under protest. Fredi Gonzalez might have a point, but I just can't see any protest being upheld, particularly on a call like an infield fly. Sure, it's a horrendous call, but by definition, it's a judgment call and those are tough to get overturned.
This game is under protest and baseball should rule in favor of the Braves and restart the game from that point. That was clearly not an appropriate time to call infield fly, nor was it called in adequate time. The ump didn't call it until after the player already indicated he didn't have it.
Holiday just confirmed that this is NOT what happened. The crowd noise is what distracted the infielder. This was a HORRIBLE call.
By acting like morons and throwing junk on the field, the Braves fans ruined their chance to send off Chipper like they wanted. They have been chanting for Chipper since the game ended, but I can't blame him for not wanting to go out there with crazy people throwing things.
I don't like the 2-3 format. The nationals have home field advantage, yet they have to travel to St. Louis for the 1st 2 games.
Yeah, at first glance, I don't care for it either. If we work under the assumption that teams will hold serve at home, that puts the "home field advantage team" at a significant disadvantage with the possibility of having to play three elimination games to win the series.
seriously? wtf is up with all these rules? 2-3 format? 1 game wild card play-in every year? all star game for HCA? Looks to me like the MLB just wants to make up these rules to stay relevant/hip in today's society.
