The draft is now complete! We actually got through this draft a lot faster than I expected... much quicker than last year. Thanks everyone. Good luck for the regular season. Don't forget to get your starting lineups set.
Hey what does the "Move to Farm" option consist of? And what players qualify? I'm still signing up to the Yahoo league, I'll make sure to do it tomorrow.
Now that the draft is done, it's time for my annual tradition where I rank each team going into the season. Unlike previous years, I'm doing this without wine or beer, so who knows how it will turn out. Let's face it -- in an 8-team league we're all pretty stacked. I remember that last year my predictions turned out to be pretty accurate, though, so let's hope for continued success! The Aliens: Sam usually does very well in this league, and is one of the most astute managers, so it's always a risk to bet against him. Looking over his team, I think it's solid. The infield is exceptional -- arguably the best infield in the league. By comparison, I see the outfield as being substantially weaker. Ellsbury is studly, but I think both Granderson and Victorino overachieved last year, and will both regress a bit. The other guys are just meh. The pitching staff is pretty good, and he got some great value picks late at the closer position. Overall, a solid team, but nothing really blows me away. Should be competitive as usual. B Biggest keys to success: Will Granderson and Victorino maintain their high production? Will Morneau and Nathan bounce back? Jent's Llamas: The main thing that concerns me about the Llamas is that there are an awful lot of aging players. A-Rod, Phillips, C.Lee, Rollins, Beltran and A.Ramirez are all past their prime, and Matt Holliday isn't far behind. I absolutely adore his top 4 starters, though... Bumgarner-Haren-Cain-Garza is a formidable foursome that I would feel comfortable sending out against anyone. The rest of the starters I am not so keen on. Relievers look good. Especially love Walden. With good management this team could do all right, but the average age of the hitters does worry me. C Biggest keys to success: Maintaining a steady supply of Ben Gay and Ensure to keep the old folks going. Will Cabrera be okay at third base? Will Holliday be okay without Pujols' lineup protection? Rook: Very, very, very, very weak at 1B. That's going to hurt. Awesome tandem at 3B, though, and the rest of the infield looks good as well. The outfield is just amazing. I fully expect Crawford to bounce back, and both Heyward, Stanton and Harper (once he gets called up) have major bust-out potential. Probably the best OF in the league. SP is a bit dicey, but has a lot of potential. Kimbrel is a stud at RP, but I do not like the others at all. This is an interesting team because it is not well balanced at all... some parts are tremendous and other parts are crappy. If I were Rook, I would try to work out a trade or two to even things out a bit. Tough team to rank, but I think he'll do okay. B Biggest keys to success: Will Crawford and Wainwright bounce back? Will the young outfielders bust out? Is Lawrie for real? Will Matt Moore be as good as everyone is predicting? Who will fill the gaping hole at 1B? CometsWin: A nice-looking team overall with one glaring, obvious, flashing neon lights weakness in the form of SP depth. CC and King Felix are unquestioned aces, but the other 3 SPs on the roster are bit unsteady. After that.... well, there's nobody else after that. This team will want to add 2 or 3 more SP to the roster or there simply won't be enough bodies to toss into the lineup on a regular basis. The relievers are great... I like them all save for Teheran who I know nothing about. Outfield is a weak area, but the infield is spectacular. This team has potential. B Biggest keys to success: Can CometsFan find enough suitable free agent pitching gems to fill the holes on this team? How good will Cespedes be? SmegCity Smarmy Gits: Smeg had a season for the ages last year, but unfortunately (for him) came up a bit short in the playoffs. It's hard to argue with the strength of his top starters, and the relievers are wicked as well (if Storen is okay, that is). The outfield is quite strong and should perform well, but I feel the infield is a bit weak. If Youkilis returns to form and stays healthy, it will help a lot, but the infield is by far the weak point of this team. B+ Biggest keys to success: Can Konerko continue to defy father time? Will Youkilis and Pedroia stay healthy? Will Duda bust out? Sucka Free: Flash has some good players, but I think this is a rebuilding year. Aside from Pujols, Kendrick and J.Weeks, I'm not a big fan of the infield at all. The outfield is marginally better (I like Bruce) but still lower than average. The pitching staff is a lot more promising, and I love the top 4 SP combination of Halladay-CJ.Wilson-Shields-Pineda. Relievers are very dicey after Papelbon. I just don't trust Farnsworth for some reason. Prove me wrong, Flash! C- Biggest keys to success: Pitching is okay, but do the hitters have enough oomph? Can Farnsworth continue his success? Will Bruce finally bust out? PhiSlammaJamma: PSJ always has an interesting team due to his heavy focus on young pitchers. As usual, I think his starters are head and shoulders above every other team (Smeg's team comes next). Having only two dedicated RP could be troublesome, but I like the two that he has (Hanrahan & Wilson). Broxton could be interesting if he nails down a closer job, though. Both the outfield and infield are solid, but not great. A lot of injury risk and over the hill guys. The SPs will be good enough to win on many weeks, but I'm not sure the hitters will be good enough to be a truly elite team. B Biggest keys to success: Will Howard still have power? Will Utley and Wright be healthy? Will Mauer bounce back? Will jent share his supply of Ben Gay and Ensure to help keep Jeter, Berkman, Ichiro and Howard going? Will Ackley bust out? Expos Forever: I won't give my own team a rating. However, I will say that usually my drafts do not go according to plan, but this year I pretty much got most of the players I wanted. I had targeted Ethier and Werth to fill out my OF from the very beginning, and was pleased to get them both. The only player I really felt sad at missing out on was Dustin Ackley, as I thought he would slip a couple more rounds. Losing Madson to injury was a big kick in the nuts, but when healthy Bailey and Street are as good as anyone, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Everything else went more or less according to plan. If I perform poorly this year, it will be because of my own bad judgment, not because I got screwed over during the draft. Biggest keys to success: How good will Yu Darvish be? Will Bailey and Street stay healthy? Will Hamilton stay sober? Will Werth and Ethier bounce back? Will enough of the young starters step up their production? Overall, I think there is more parity in the league this season than there was last year, so it's tough to pick out the top teams. The only ones I feel are really behind the others are jent and Flash. Everyone else, despite a few warts here and there, looks pretty good. Don't take these ratings seriously... it's all in good fun! Plus, I'm really going to eat my words when it ends up being jent vs. Flash in the finals.
Great write-up Fade...always love those things..........very good. However I will say that I don't think my 1B situation is that bad......sleeper heavy, yes........but weak, not sure about that....... Bottom line, still like it.......I should put one together, but maybe I need to win the league first before being qualified.
