The defense was pretty lackluster at times, particularly late in the second half, but it's easy to understand why.

I compare it to a heavyweight fight. You come into a fight (or in this case, a match) with a solid game plan, but once the punches start to really fly and you get tired, that game plan goes out the window and you go into survival mode. I think that's what we saw from the Dynamo late. They were left with little choice but to just throw themselves in front of the ball.

Why? Because a team is rewarded for playing not to lose? This is why most people hate soccer, the game was pretty much unwatchable

    whew:eek:

that was a horrible game on the dynamo's part. they were lucky. they need to learn how to keep possession and make passes. hainult stepped in admirably, hall was mvp, and boswell is solid as always.

    noodle time b****es:grin:

 ^ what is "noodle time"? I've seen that so much... but don't know.

I DON'T LIKE a "sit back and don't get scored on" game... even though it got the job done. :( I agree with Rhino. It's not like FOOTBALL where the D can score, too.

I grew up with soccer so it's part of the rules. Just like PK's and Two Yellow cards that will make you miss a match. I think the only people that don't like it are new to the sport.

Uhhh, no. I have been watching, playing, and attending football games since little and I hadn't seen that style of play but until I came to the U.S. Whether smart or better way to win, it's not something I like at all. I'm not new and I hate it. I am sure a lot more peeps who have been watching soccer all their life don't like it. You said "I think", so that isn't a fact at all.

It is in the rules of the game to beat your opponent with skill and honorable playing. This "sit back and don't do anything" might not break that rule, but sure as heck isn't good for the sport, its fans, and its history. If "not allowing someone to score while playing only defense" is your skill, so be it.

Playing not to lose has been around as long as their has been football.
Just look at the Italian league. Forever their clubs were known for playing defense first and getting the 1 point than chancing losing and getting zero.

Hell, that's what Mourinho did with Inter Milan. Once they were up, he had the team "park the bus" in front of the goal.

And even NFL defenses do this to avoid Hail Mary touchdowns, the difference being that they don't play that way for a full 45/90 minutes.

I'm a Dynamo fan first, so I'm happy with the results. However, as a fan of the sport, that was embarrassing. The Dynamo had one player forward with 10 players back for pretty much the entire match. And even then, they were still allowing ample opportunities on goal from SKC. If they were going to play that brand of soccer, I would have preferred if they had played their regular 4-4-2, because then at least there would have been a chance to counter a score from SKC. I'm glad that game is over, and we can move on to the Finals, but my goodness that was terrible.

And to say THAT game is why you love the sport.....seriously, Reeko??

What would've happened if Kansas City had won the game 2-0? What's the next tie-breaker?

I believe an overtime period followed by penalty kicks.

That's correct ^^. The extra-time period is of 30 minutes of two 15-minute halves, then if still tied it is five (5) shots from the penalty spot... and finally, a chance to get each a goal of one-and-one shots until someone misses and the other doesn't.

I think Houston's bunkering last night was like Chelsea and that's how they won against Barcelona and eventually won the UEFA Champions League last season.

DC and NYRB are playing with ten men. I believe some guys got some Red, so they won't be playing next game. I got to check to see who it was.

Turns out, it's Marquez drew 2 yellows. I guess he's out the next game? Keeper Bill Hamid drew a straight red.

DC gets a goal late in regulation, which I think is good news for the Dynamo. Even though they have played well after losing DeRo for the season, I would much rather play DC than play a Red Bulls team with players like Henry and Tim Cahill.

Rafa Marquez for NY and the goalie Bill Hamid for DC. Whoever wins this game, either of the two will be suspended in the next game. Also, Andy Najar from DC could be suspended multiple games for throwing the ball at the referee in Game 1.

Dynamo vs. DC United in the East finals. Game 1 on Sunday at 3:00 and it's televised on NBC Sports Network, not NBC (channel 2).
