    (possible) Perry line:

"I don't think America wants a master debater. We've already got one of those in the White House"

The GOP showing they prefer their primary process to be more reality show, than serious policy debate.

None of them. Santorum appeals to no one. Huntsman only might appeal to the Romney voters. And Paul has his own unique base. The Perry/Bachmann/Cain/Gingrinch voters are all the same group of people, so if one falls, the votes have to go to one of the others.

The GOP is a joke, no legit candidates, except possibly Romney, and he'll say anything to get elected. The GOP has no message, no plan, and no credibility. And this isn't a good thing, either. Even as a Democrat, I believe America is better off with two viable parties, but Republicans have driven their party off a cliff. Newt? Palin? Bachmann? Cain? The Republican debates are both hilarious and terrifying.

George Soros has successfully infiltrated and bought off the leadership of the GOP. It's the only explanation.

I'm starting to waiver some. This could be a repeat of 2008 where the other candidates all make Romney their #1 enemy (as Huckabee and McCain did) and he loses his grip on the wheel. The difference is the alternative was McCain instead of Newt.

Newt will say something very soon to give all Republicans pause. He can't help himself. If not, someone else will sabotage him.

Welcome to the dark side. :) I will say that there is one interesting change from 2008 that I didn't know about when I made my Newt prediction. In 2008, the Dem primary was proportional, while the GOP primary was winner-take-all. Obama would have been obliterated in a winner-take-all primary because losing 55-45% in California couldn't be offset by winning 90-10% in Montana. Meanwhile, in the GOP, if you lost early, you were basically dead.

This year, the GOP is most proportional too, from my understanding. Combine that with the fact that Ron Paul has the ability to dominate caucuses simply because of his loyalty factor and take a share of the delegates from those states, and we could end up with a long, dragged out race where neither Newt or Romney can eliminate each other. That actually plays into Romney's favor because it gives him more time to hang out in 2nd place while waiting for Newt to implode. My original thought was that Newt just needed to make it past Florida and South Carolina without doing something stupid and he'd be in a pretty dominant position, but that doesn't work nearly as well with proportional delegation.

At this point, I really sort of want Newt to win just because every mainstream GOP analyst/commentator as well as many in Congress like Tom Coburn have not just come out against Newt, but outright said he's unfit to be President. I want to see what those people do if he's their nominee.

Yep! The beltway GOP is freaking that Newt could win the nomination. Should be fun to watch

Ugh. It will not be fun. It will be tragic. As partisan as I am, I would much prefer two decent parties. We currently have a wealthy insane asylum run amok and a craven, conflicted, vacillating group of mamby-pambies.

Jeez, the world is falling apart, the country I love is going to be worse off for my grandkids, and we are dicking around and laughing at our own incompetence.

(Not offense MC, just a general rant.)

This is why he won't be the nominee. The GOP Establishment is stronger than you think. Between them and Newt's own combustability, he will crash.

    Huntsman was on Zakaria.

Why the hell aren't we voting for him in waves? He's an almost perfect choice.

Just saw a quote in New York magazine from a Romney spokesman saying voters are coming to view Newt as "the last guy you'd want to sit next to on an airplane." I thought that was especially stupid as all it made me think of was the separate reports of Mitt being a dick to people on airplanes.

If Romney blows this, with this field, it will be a historically epic fail.

Someone else has to get in soon, right? Surely there is a Repub who can at least partially bridge the gap between the money guys and the tea people. Gingrich and Romney are ridiculous candidates. If either one gets the nomination, Obama's time will be spent working to get Dems in Congress. I smell Jeb.

those high school girls at the pizza hall meeting with Bachmann were cooler than cucumbers.

bachmann and perry (and the rest of the GOP?) must be living in a vacuum.

I'm not surprised she didn't know what the GSA stood for, but that response of hers just makes me cringe
