He was talking about the amount of debates, you mentioned the amount of candidates. I don't see how the two are related.
Me either. I think there should be no fuss except excitement of how great the ad is. It's one of the strangest ads I've seen, and to think that it comes from the GOP poll leader at the moment.
Well at this point in the game in the 2008 election, there were 13 Democratic presidential debates held. Through this same point in the 2012 Republican primary, there have been 10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_(United_States)_presidential_debates,_2008 vs. http://www.2012presidentialelectionnews.com/2012-debate-schedule/2011-2012-primary-debate-schedule/ I agree that there have been way too many debates, and the other argument I keep hearing (not necessarily here) is that there's too many candidates. But the point is that the same complaints could and should be made for both sides.
Thanks! I didn't remember that onslaught from 2008, and I definitely didn't watch many of those either. I do remember all the tedious Hillary versus Obama drama. I just don't see why either party needs so many, and I do wonder if television ratings drives it a bit.
If the GOP candidates had any charisma, any substance, any new approaches, anything that might attract new support, and didn't step on their collective dicks weekly, these debates would be golden
I rather enjoy the debates, I've seen all of them so far. I love watching politicians argue among each other. It looks like we should be getting a ton of them squeezed into a few weeks. I heard after this last debate there are only 2 in November, of course this may have changed. According to that Perry link, there are 11 between now and end of January, so it looks like we could get 9 debates in 2 months. I do like the sound of that.
Probably not. More likely it's because he knows he has a hard time articulating any coherent thoughts and he's tired of embarrassing himself with awkward silences and gaffes.
The debates provide the candidates (relatively) equal airtime and serve as opportunities for the public to get to know them outside of campaign ads. It's not like these candidates have anything better they'd be doing - I say the more the merrier. They also let less hyped candidates and less financed candidates have an opportunity to get their message out. They've had quite the impact so far - virtually eliminating Perry and elevating Cain.
I love presidential debates. Especially primary debates. I find them endlessly fascinating and entertaining. Doesn't matter which party.
Tea Party Leader asks Michelle Bachmann to stop claiming tea party hilarious if she thinks she can parlay this campaign into a commentator positions she's nuts
Bachmann's campaign never had any chance and it's a joke right now. If she doesn't have the sense to bow out gracefully, she deserves the consequences (especially if her sole reason for staying in is to promote a memoir). IMO, you learn a lot about people by how they react to failure and defeat.
Why not. She is entertaining and beknighted Fox viewers would probably view her as a policy wonk. Of course she might have to beat out Sarah Palin for a spot. I think she stays in Congress till folks wise up to her. That could take a long time. If you ignore her stupid positions she is superficially attractive enough.
Cain of course is in it to sell his memoir or boost his speaking fees. At the minimum he will be put on some more corporate boards or even conservative "think" tank boards where they can ghost write some policy wonk pieces with his name on it. He is quite useful for them.
It would have been gold if the article stated she won the Iowa straw poll because she promised free food and a free music concert. Also, that she paid for people to enter the poll in hopes they vote for her.
After all of this, I doubt Bachmann stays in Congress. For a few weeks she tasted the sweet nectar of the limelight and everyone took her seriously & listened to what she said. Going back to being one of 435 without a top leadership position will be tough for her to swallow. Cain should hang in there until his poll numbers or campaign crumble. At this point, he might last until South Carolina unless he completely burns out in Iowa and NH.
Same reason any one goes to low level political rallies. See a celebrity without crowds, a cover charge or deflatable expectations.
Ron Paul wins the Des Moines Straw Poll getting the support of 82% of Iowan voters. He can definitely win the Iowa primay...
