You will never know until he actually gets elected. You can look at last years elections. The voters are beginning to side with Paul! Now for foreign policy, As commander and chief he can absolutely bring the troops back in a heartbeat. He does not need congressional approval what so ever.
I understand he has the authority to pull the troops as he pleases, and I do think that pulling troops from Iraq and the majority from Afghanistan is a big step in the right direction for foregin policy reform, I'm skeptical he'll be able to accomplish some of his other goals, because I don't see Congress backing them up.
As far as bringing the troops home, the President is CinC, he can pretty much do whatever he wants...
This is actually the single biggest reason that I would vote for RP. Congress won't allow him to implement his truly crazy ideas, but he would have the bully pulpit and is one of the only politicians that would use it to browbeat everyone in the pockets of the special interests. That being said, I would prefer the Johnson/Paul ticket. I love Gary Johnson too.
It would be interesting to see how it would play out, with a Republican House, Democratic Senate, and Liberaltarian administratition. We'd ethier see an excellent example of unity and centerism or we'd have a government too divided to get anything done.
i dont see how a constitution party could adopt a more constitution-friendly platform than paul. based on the poll i cited roughly 2/3rds of republicans would support paul. and of that other 1/3rd i highly doubt they would go for obama. in the end, most people vote based on party affiliation so just having the R infront of his name will get him plenty of mainstream republican votes. all this being said, he will never get the GOP nomination, so its a moot point.
Many of his truly crazy ideas don't require Congress to go along since they don't require funding. He can just direct his EPA to stop enforcing regulations, stop nominating Fed directors (or only nominate crazy ones), etc.
I want Ron Paul to run, but I know he won't get elected. The reason I want him to run is that Obama may feel compelled to pick up some of Paul's anti-Federalism stances to attract independent voters. The worst aspects of the Obama administration have all been from the overreach of Federal institutions involved in law enforcement, things like wiretapping provisions and so forth. I think Obama would become a candidate that I'd be more likely to vote for if he stopped being a repeat, in terms of anti-terror tactics and such, of George W. Bush.
Well, I guess I'm going to respond to you. It's not about who has or hasn't suffered, it's about the government having a power that it should not have.
For someone who cries so often about the growth of government, I find it very strange that you are ok with this.
The job of government is to protect it's citizens' rights from threats foreign and domestic. Everyone besides Anarchists believes this.
giving up what right? right to private phone calls? I am not familiar with that one. Is it similar to the right to not go through a metal detector or have your bags scanned at the airport?
