Stephen Colbert @StephenAtHome Another free joke for Romney: "Back in college, I partied so hard, I'd sometimes stumble into a dorm building that wasn't named after me!"
And he is what he will be....the Barry Goldwater to Obama's LBJ. November is going to be a slaughter for the Republicans.
http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/29/politics/campaign-wrap/index.html Because God forbid our leaders stop and think before taking action. This rational is another reason the GOP will be slaughtered come election time.
a quantum theory of mitt romney Figured this was the place to link this hilarious piece over at the NYT. Romney could be the perfect candidate for me, if I gave him my policy configuration best fit and it almost makes me want to vote for him. A Quantum Theory of Mitt Romney
Santorum: We Want A Candidate Whose Values Are "Forged In Steel, Not An Etch-A-Sketch" What if there was a primary and nobody came?
Ehh... Romney will win a vast majority of the South, but I can see Obama picking off a few southern border states because Romney does not inspire Southerners, is Mormon and not remotely populist.
Obama can (and probably should) win New Mexico and that's about it. Obviously California is a lock as well. Arizona and Texas are still solid red states. Keep in mind that Democrats can win the South but Obama won't be that guy. States like Arkansas and Kentucky still have very strong state democratic parties. Democrats still largely control Arkansas politics and have a good hand in Kentucky. Hell they still had a majority in the Mississippi state house until 2010. But none of that translates into a candidate like Obama. Southern democrats are a very regional variety and Obama certainly doesn't fit that mold. You'd need a Bill Clinton type that can legitimately claim to be a Southerner to even have a chance at picking a few off.
Virginia, North Carolina and Florida are the only southern states legitimately in question. All 3 were won by Obama in 2008 and he has zero chance of expanding beyond them. In fact, he may lose them. Romney doesn't inpire southerners, but Obama does, which is why Romney will match or exceed McCain's results in the South.
I played around with some scenarios, and I've concluded that the Republicans win with 272 electoral votes, assuming Romney doesn't pick a crazy VP (always possible) and Obama doesn't win any Southern states. I think the Carolinas and Virginia are possible, but not easy, for him to take. I have Nevada voting Republican(economy still hurts there) and Romney losing Massachusetts. The key is Ohio, they seem to vote for the winner. Here is my map.
North carolina is gone. I give Obama a very small chance there. Virginia is still possible (even a good chance) because their demographics are shifting in favor of Democrats. Northern Virginia is turning more and more blue so its just a matter of pushing turnout. Florida is Florida. Complete tossup as always. Just depends on whether South Florida or North Florida turns out more.
I think the GOP's perceived anti-Latino crusade will earn them a much-larger-than-expected defeat in Florida. Unless, perhaps if Romney gets Rubio on his ticket.
I've said this before and will say it again, but IMO, the "oh hispanics will vote for us now sicne Rubio is on the ticket!" effect will be somewhere in the vicinity of "women will love mccain because of Palin!" and "Condi Rice really helps bush with blacks!" in terms of ethnic coattails... ...Cubanos are good for sandwiches and cigars, and bad variety shows. Not so much for attracting Latino votes. See Trader Jorge and Orlando Sanchez electoral strategly for more info.
The only reason he shouldn't try to get Rubio is if there is a legitimate 3rd party candidate that can steal the base from Romney.

Video showing the massive crowds that have been showing up to Ron Paul speeches the past month. The media continues to ignore Ron Paul, the people keep showing up to see him speak. Not a chance in hell you'd ever see crowds of this size at a Romney/Gingrich/Santorum rally. You could get all three of those candidates speaking at a staged event and they still wouldn't draw half the crowd Ron Paul does. <iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/GYFWOyCevYA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
