I can't stand all the negative Thabeet bashing in the GARM! We haven't even seen him play for long stretches in a Rockets uniform, yet everyone is an expert on Thabbet. Should lay the blame on G.M. & coach, who also isn't playing T-Will. They can't shine if the're left in the Dark. My biggest worry is that we trade Thabeet & he becomes a low post defensive monster and rebounding machine. COACH! PLAY DA BIG MAN!
Don't worry, Thabeet is not going to become another Deke. How can i say that with confidence? Just listen to what people say who have worked closely with him. And in the limited time i've watched him on the court, he looks very lost; his reaction time seems to be delayed, the light seems to go on a second after it does for everyone else. Could he surprise people and all of the sudden put two and two together? Yes, but not bloody likely. But as far as all of this Morey bashing because he traded Battier for Thabeet, that's just ill informed. Battier was a free agent at the end of the year. He's old, he's declining, and we were not going to sign him back. His value was basically worth a marginal player or a very low draft pick. Morey extracted a future low draft pick (1st round) and gained control of a former #2 pick, 7-foot center, who had a chance to be worth keeping. As it turns out, he's not worth keeping, but i don't see how anyone could fault Morey for taking the risk. It was a good trade, even if Thabeet is a bust. It was def. worth the risk.
The pick we got from Memphis along with Thabeet was one of the key assets dealt to Minnesota on draft night in the Motiejunas trade. That's what he meant by that.
There's this guy called McHale, he knows a thing or two about the game of basketball, and he watches these guys play day in day out, he sees not only their dedication and effort, but also their ability. He has chosen on numerous occasions to play Scola over Thabeet at the 5. Make of that what you will.
It worked out, but it still doesn't change the fact that Donte Greene and Joey Dorsey were bad picks and it was a bad trade. Morey made the decision to trade down and not take Batum. Then went on to draft 2 of the worst players in the range he picked in. They were especially bad when you consider the 34 thru 37 picks were Chalmers, Jordan, Asik, and Mbah a Moute.
Right on Bima. The Greene pick turned out great for us ...Artest helped us get the first round exit monkey off our back. I really enjoyed watching that playoff run (and we would have beaten LA with a healthy Yao). We were in win-now mode then, and Artest was younger and more productive, so it was a great draft pick which led to a great trade. Closing the book on this debate. Now those who want to fault Morey for picking Dorsey (mind you, he was a low draft pick) over a better alternative, that's fair, but given that low draft picks are far from a sure thing, and given Morey's stellar track record of drafting good players, I'd cut the guy some slack.
