Football has a funny way of working out sometimes. Michigan fakes a punt and the runner gets really close to the first down marker. They measure for a first down and even though there is clearly space between the ball and the marker, the official calls it a first down. Just a bizarre call all around. I'm not sure what he was looking at. On the very next play, South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney blows up the Michigan running back and forces a fumble, which he recovers.
Just some incredible incompetence going on at the Outback Bowl. Michigan faked a punt a 4th and 3 at roughly their own 35-yard line. Came close but looked short. Official came in with sticks, measured... the ball was clearly short... and he still ruled it a first down. South Carolina challenged, and it was upheld. Thankfully, Michigan fumbled on the very next play, making the ultimate impact moot. But there is absolutely zero reason for that official to EVER officiate another game in his entire life. There has to be some sort of accountability for that.
Anyone watching Michigan game? Have volume off as watching Georgia game. Did the referee just call a first down when chains showed it was an inch short? Gamecocks challenged, but lost it. Assume can't challenge ref being blind. Edit, Thanks.
Steve Spurrier's reaction was priceless. He hopped out in front of the official and pointed at the space between the ball and the stick. The guy holding the stick didn't do that official any favors because he just continued to hold the stick there for all to see.
Steve Spurrier is the king of priceless reactions. But Clowney's hit was sick and justice prevailed. Props to Michigan for hanging tough with a much better team.
Reminds me of when the official moved the ball back during the measurement before the famous 4th down play in the 96 Big XII championship.
I gotta agree with that. I thought NIU could've stolen a lead at halftime, but in the end, they just didn't have the horses. They were outclassed across the board.
Haven't posted for a while, but the Texans/Bengals matchup is bringing me back. Just wanted to shoutout Driphus Jackson in this piece. 33-14
ESPN's Todd McShay seems to think Teddy Bridgewater has a MONSTER upside.... take that for what its worth
