20-20 season for George Springer as he took Inland Empire's Nick Maronde DEEP. Yeah, that's his 20th homer. Lancaster trails 4-1.
Cisnero very strong in his 1st AAA start. Kid is looking promising. May be a candidate for our rotation next year if he finishes the season strong?
Would rather not rush are young guys. We need to let them develop, we could screw him up and bring them up too early
Possible. A strong finish could guarantee him a spring training invite. I think Cisnero could debut in Houston at some point next summer.
Saturday Stories Welcome to AAA, Jose Cisnero. Lancaster Effect ruining the home team. Lexington has been rolling, as they look to make a charge towards a playoff spot. Tri-City's ownage of the New York-Penn League continues. Recap OKC knocked off Omaha 6-2, getting a fine start from Jose Cisnero in his AAA debut. In 7 innings, he allowed a run on 6 hits (solo homer to Wil Myers, probably the top prospect in all of minor league baseball), walked 2, and struck out 3. Enerio Del Rosario allowed a hit and walked 1 in the 8th, and Jose Valdez allowed a run while striking out the side in the 9th. Brett Wallace clubbed a 3-run homer in the 3rd, his 16th of the season. Matt Dominguez went 2-4 with a 2-run double, and Crash Hessman had an RBI double. Corpus was not really a factor in their 8-3 loss to Midland. They had 11 hits, but Jonathan Singleton's double was the only extra-base hit. Jake Goebbert and Drew Locke both went 2-4 with an RBI. Ben Heath had the other RBI on an out. Ross Seaton went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits (2 2-run homers to Anthony Aliotti), walked 2, and struck out 5. Adalberto Flores (1 run) and Josh Zeid (2) threw 2 innings apiece. Lancaster didn't really do much of note in a 7-1 loss to Inland Empire. George Springer now has a 20-20 season, with his solo homer off Nick Maronde in the 4th being the only Jethawks run. He, Rafael Valenzuela, and Roberto Pena had 2 hits. Tyson Perez allowed 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits in 4 2/3 innings, walking 2 and striking out 2. Lexington and Hagerstown had a game, but first things first, they had to complete Friday night's game, which the Legends led 4-0 before it was suspended. They pretty much cruised from there on out, winning 8-1. Zach Johnson, who had a 3-run shot before the suspension, added a solo shot in the 7th, giving him 12 on the year. Delino DeShields and Mike Kvasnicka added RBI singles. Evan Grills came on and threw 4 scoreless for the win, allowing a hit, a walk, and struck out 4. Dayan Diaz allowed a run in the 9th. In 2 innings, he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and fanned 1. In the regularly scheduled game, the Legends came out on top yet again, winning 2-0. Matt Duffy had an RBI triple in the 4th, and he came home on Brandon Meredith's single. Delino DeShields went 1-3 with 2 steals, giving him 75 on the season. Luis Ordosgoitti threw 6 shutout innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Murilo Gouvea fanned 2 in a 1-2-3 9th for his 4th save of the season. Tri-City has just owned everyone in their path this season, and this game was no different. After falling behind 1-0 to Auburn, the ValleyCats rattled off 5 unanswered to take the series opener.... 5-1. Andrew Aplin went 2-4 with 2 steals (17). Jesse Wierzbicki went 0-5 with a hat trick and an RBI groundout. Jarrod McKinney had an RBI single, while Austin "Catfish" Elkins went 3-5 with an RBI double. Emilio King provided the cherry with a 2-run homer in the 9th, his 1st of the season. Lance Day allowed a run on 6 hits and struck out 3 in 6 innings to get the victory. Juan Minaya gave up a hit, walked 1, and fanned 1 in 2 scoreless, and Jamaine Cotton allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 9th. Greeneville has been stumbling as of late, as they dropped their series with Elizabethton with a 5-0 loss. Jean Carlos Batista's double was the only extra-base hit. Francis Ramirez went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Mike Hauschild allowed a run on a hit (not a homer) in 2 innings and fanned 2. The GCLstros got doubled up 6-3 by the Nationals. Carlos Correa went 2-5 with a double. Rio Ruiz went 2-5 with an RBI double and an RBI single. Teoscar Hernandez had an RBI. Darwin Rivera had 2 doubles, Juan Santana had one of his own, and Wallace Gonzalez added a triple. Krishawn Holley, in his season debut, had a 1-2-3 1st. Agapito Barrios got the loss in 5 innings of relief, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits (solo homer) and striking out 1. Jose Montero allowed 2 in the 8th. Ambiorix De Leon fanned 2 in a 1-2-3 9th. The Academy fell to the Royals 9-6, as Cristian Murillo, Luis Reynoso, and Jarico Reynoso each had 2 hits. Murillo, Jarico Reynoso, Randy Cesar, and Michael Medina drove in 1 apiece. Harold Arauz allowed a run on 3 hits in 2 innings. Edwin Villarroel got the loss, allowing 5 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 1 2/3 innings, walking 1 and striking out 2.
Game Scores Jose Cisnero: 62 Ross Seaton: 40 Tyson Perez: 30 Luis Ordosgoitti: 73 Lance Day: 59 Francis Ramirez: 48 Krishawn Holley: N/A Harold Arauz: 46 Three Stars 3. Jose Cisnero, P, Oklahoma City W, 7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 62 GS Breakout is go! He's giving himself an outside chance to join the Astros next spring. Luis Ordosgoitti, P, Lexington W, 6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 7 K, 73 GS He's been a bit uneven, and too hittable at times this season. Ordo won't turn 20 until after the Minor League season concludes, so this season has probably been a great learning experience for him. 2. Brett Wallace, 3B/1B, Oklahoma City 1-2, 3-R HR (16) If he can't make it to Houston with the roster the way it is, I really don't know what he needs to do. Sure, promoting him won't have much of an impact, but don't we need to see if he can still be a viable major league player or something? Why are Scott Moore/Matt Downs/Brian Bixler taking spots on the 25-man roster? 1. Zach Johnson, 1B, Lexington 2-2, 2 HR (12), 5 RBI What could Johnson have done in Lancaster... Honorable Mentions Murilo Gouvea, P, Lexington: He or Dayan Diaz need to be moved up. You can be patient with the young top prospects, but the other guys that have done well should get their chance too. See if any of them turn out to be something... Matt Duffy, 3B, Lexington: Ditto. Matt Dominguez, 3B, Oklahoma City: See you next month, or in September. George Springer, CF, Lancaster: See you in Corpus soon. Tri-City ValleyCats: Now 17-3 on the road. Goat Offense can't utilize their home park, pitchers get burned again in their home park.... Looking Ahead OKC and Omaha will play at 7:05. Brian Bass takes on Jake Odorizzi. Corpus will look to rebound against Midland at 7:05. Coming off a strong debut, Asher Wojciechowski will take the mound. He will be opposed by Carlos Hernandez. Lancaster will look to avoid the sweep in their series finale against Inland Empire. Hopefully they can get some offense going too, as they've only scored 2 runs in 2 games. First pitch at 5 Pacific, with Bobby Doran facing off against Manny Correa. Lexington and Hagerstown will wrap up their series at 1:35 Eastern, as Tom Shirley will get a start. He faces off against Blake Schwartz. Tri-City and Auburn will play the middle game of their series at 6:05 Eastern. Joe Bircher will go up against Silvio Medina. Greeneville is in Bluefield to begin a 3-game set with the Blue Jays. TBA will oppose Tucker Jensen on the mound for the Appy Astros. First pitch will be at 6:05 Eastern.
Nice. Supposedly he'll play first and third. It's weird that they prepped him for third base by playing him at short stop; sounds like it may have helped though.
He also suffered some nerve damage in his leg, in addition to the sprained ankle. I would imagine that it might take more than 2 weeks to recover from that.
After they placed Lowrie on the DL (mid-July), Mills said he thought it would be 4-6 weeks before he returned. I would be surprised if he is back before September.
Hopefully it'll be mostly third. I think it's clear by now that Wallace doesn't have the power to be a long-term 1B option on a winning club. But if he can play passable D at third, he very well could be. These next two months would be a perfect time to find out.
Michael Feliz got lit up in his Greeneville debut, after dominating in the GCL (3.2IP 5R 4ER 6H 3BB 3K). Andre Aplin continues to beast.
Kevin Chapman blew it, as he allowed 2 of Asher Wojciechowski's runs to score in the 6th, and gave up 2 more of his own to turn a 3-0 Corpus lead into a 4-3 deficit against Midland.

Carlos Correa is starting to remind me a little bit of Craig Biggio - doubles machine, intelligent/heady player, plus speed, average power. I could see him playing multiple infield positions with his tools. Of course, these doubles might turn into home runs once he fills out, but if not a .280-.300 hitter with 20 steals, 15 homers and a ton of doubles wouldn't be too shabby.
