You can't walk your way off the island.

Oh, and Jose Altuve has improved (somewhat) while in the majors.

GCLstros sweep their doubleheader with the Cardinals, as Enderson Franco went the distance and shut them out 5-0 in Game 2.

    A couple notables:
-Rio Ruiz played 3rd base for the first time; up til now he had DH'ed exclusively
-the young Astros combined for 16 strikeouts in a 7 inning game  They only took 3 bb's.
-Correa is now above the Mendoza line.

Paredes with another hr last night, 2 more hits and stole his 29th base. Can we at least entertain the idea that he's possibly inline to be better than Altuve?

We can, but first shouldn't we entertain that he can produce better than CJ at 3B, Schafer at CF, or Bogey in RF?

    Tuesday Stories

OKC rebounded in a huge way after that humiliating sweep in Memphis.

Asher Wojciechowski making a very positive first impression.

Nick Tropeano took the mound in the hopes of ending Lancaster's 0-season record in Lake Elsinore.

    Dramatics in Lexington!

Tri-City entered their game on an unprecedented 2-game losing streak. Could they right the ship before hitting the road?

A fine day for one Carlos Correa in the GCL.

    Recap

After getting swept out of Memphis and looking absolutely uncompetitive all weekend, OKC returned home to host Iowa and took their frustrations out on the Cubbies, winning 15-9. They scored in every inning except for the 5th and 8th. Jimmy Paredes went 2-6 and kicked things off with his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot in the 1st. Mike Hessman went 1-3 with an RBI double and drew a bases-loaded walk. Brad Snyder added a solo homer, his 15th of the season. Brett Wallace, at shortstop yet again, went 2-3 with 4 RBI (single, 2-run single, bases-loaded walk). Armando Galarraga even got into the act with an RBI sac bunt. And a huge night for Matt Dominguez as he went 2-3 with 6 RBI. He had a sac fly, a 3-run homer (8) in the 6th that blew the game wide open, and added a 2-run double for good measure. Unfortunately for Mr. Almost Perfect, his control abandoned him, as, despite only allowing 1 hit through 3 shutout innings, he walked 5 and struck out 5. The good news for him is that he's on the next flight to Houston to take Wandy's spot on the roster. Aneury Rodriguez was roughed up, and Sergio Perez got the win despite serving up a 2-run homer in the 6th that tied the game at 8. At least that was the only hit he gave up in his 2 innings. Mark Hamburger and Jose Valdez each threw scoreless innings.

Corpus took their series opener with San Antonio 4-1, as Asher Wojciechowski turned in a fine Astros and AA debut. In 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. Kevin Chapman pitched a scoreless 8th, and Jason Stoffel worked around a double to Ali Solis to strike out 2 and record his 17th save of the season. Both teams only had 4 hits apiece in this game, but the Hooks made the most of their opportunities, and took advantage of some spotty control from Missions pitchers. Kody Hinze had an RBI force out and Rene Garcia had an RBI single in the 2nd. Hinze would then score on a wild pitch later in the inning. Ben Orloff scored the 4th Corpus run on yet another wild pitch in the 3rd. I'm ready to see Chapman and/or Stoffel in Houston, or at the very least, Oklahoma City.

Lancaster's horrid run in Lake Elsinore continues with a 3-1 loss. They've now lost all 12 games in Lake Elsinore this season. Nick Tropeano had a good start, but even that wasn't enough, since the Jethawks only got an RBI single from George Springer. They were held to 4 hits in the game. In 5 innings, Nitro allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. Jorge De Leon pitched 2 scoreless, allowing 1 hit, walking 1, and striking out 3. Chia-Jen Lo struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 8th.

Lexington walked off with a 4-3 win over Augusta, as Luis Alvarez played hero with an RBI single in the 9th. Brandon Meredith and Zach Johnson both went 2-4 with RBI singles, and Nolan Fontana had an RBI groundout. Jonas Dufek went 7 1/3 and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, walked 1, and fanned 8. Mitch Lambson got the win with 1 2/3 scoreless, allowing 1 hit.

In a game that began at 11 AM Eastern, Tri-City topped Connecticut 7-3 on the strength of a 5-run 6th inning. There was only 1 hard-hit ball in that inning, and that was an Andrew Aplin RBI double. The rest were singles. Joe Sclafani has been on a bit of a hotstreak as of late; in the leadoff spot for the 1st time this season, he went 3-5 with an RBI single in the 6th and stole a base (5). Preston Tucker had a 2-run single and Tyler Heineman chipped in with an RBI single. Jesse Wierzbicki got things started with an RBI double in the 4th for the ValleyCats. He would come around to score on a Jobduan Morales single that tied the game at 2. Brady Rodgers shook off 2 solo homers to get his 4th win of the season. In 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 5. Jeremiah Meiners finished with 2 scoreless and hitless innings, walking 1 and fanning 2.

Greeneville was swept out of Burlington as they walked off with a 4-3 loss in 10 innings. Mike Hauschild went wild with 2 outs in the 10th. Jose Monzon, Jean Carlos Batista, and Marc Wik each had 2 hits. Mike Martinez went 3-5 with a double. Ricky Gingras had an RBI single and Angel Ibanez doubled and had a sac fly. Dan Minor had a bare minimum quality start, allowing 9 hits (solo homer) and striking out 4. Hauschild gave up the losing run, the only one he allowed in 3 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and fanned 4.

The GCLstros swept a doubleheader against the Cardinals, winning 3-2 and 5-0. Carlos Correa went 2-3 with his 1st professional home run, a solo shot in the 4th. Darwin Rivera and Teoscar Hernandez also drove in 1. Michael Feliz went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits (solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 7. Alan Abreu got 1 out in the 6th. Erick Gonzalez notched his 8th save, allowing a hit and striking out 3 in 1 2/3 innings.

In game 2, Enderson Franco went the distance, allowing 6 hits and striking out 2. Brett Phillips and Correa both had 2 hits and scored twice. The River ripped a 2-run double, and Wallace Gonzalez had a 2-run single.

The Academy blew a 4-0 lead and lost 7-5 to the Mariners. Mesac Laguna and Jean Carlos Cortorreal both had 2 hits and an RBI. Jarico Reynoso went 2-4 with a double. Harold Arauz, in his first appearance since June 11 (I assume he was injured), allowed a hit and struck out 1 in the 1st. Samil De Los Santos went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walking 1 and fanning 6. Javier Saucedo blew it.
