What's everyone's favorite minor league affiliate right now? Mine was Corpus before Villar went down so I'll jump on the Tri-City bandwagon. Next year's CC team is gonna be sick: Fontana, Springer, Santana, potentially DDJ if they wanna get fancy. Can you imagine that line-up?
How can it not be Corpus? Wates, Cosart, Oberholtzer (gone now), Singleton, Villar, Martinez, Wallace, Cisnero, Chapman, Seaton, & Stoffel. BTW, Chris Wallace is on a tear. Had a terrible June, but is hitting .500/.556/.708 so far in July. Overall numbers are pretty respectable. Edit: Obviously Tri-City is absolutely killing it, so its hard to not like what is going on there, but still 2-3 years from the majors unlike CC.
So ummmm....Nolan the 2nd reached base safely all 5 times in their concluded game. He is now sporting a .414 average w/ a .650 OBP.
Lexington was also in the conversation for me with DDJ, Folty, Trope, Moon, Fontanaand a lot of lesser known prospects making their first trip out of rookie ball.
Transactions updated. Jose Perdomo was activated from the DL and subsequently released. After going 4-3 with a 1.67 ERA in 11 games (all starts) in the GCL in 2010, he was shelled in Greeneville last season, going 0-4 with an ERA of 9 in 5 starts. Shame, he'll turn 21 in October and it looked like he had some upside. As for my favorite minor league team to keep track of this season, it's got to be Corpus for me. They were the most highly-touted team in the system. It was a pretty rough start, but they are absolutely locked in right now.
A first in a 4-part series from WTHB, in which she takes a closer look at the short-season teams. First up, the Academy. Shield your eyes, if you must.

lulz Brett Wallace at shortstop again for OKC. I guess he's working on becoming a more versatile player?
Nice Astros-heavy AskBA Jim Callis of Baseball America slotted the new draftees and international signees in to the mid-season top 50 revision he put out a few weeks ago. He put Correa at 27.5, behind Billy Hamilton at 27 and ahead of the Yankees Mason Williams at 28. For a refresher, Singleton was 23 and Springer was 45. No mention of LMJ. Link
