He shouldve been fired two seasons ago. There is no reason to have any confidence in this man, he's shown absolutely no improvement in his coaching abilities throughout his entire tenure here. I'm frustrated with McNair staying with him for so long

McNair shows signs of beaten-housewife syndrome. Beaten housewives often find the idea of life without their husband as worse than life being beaten by their husband: the fear of the unknown is too much for them to handle.

McNair seems to think Kubiak is-as-good-as-it-gets. What he doesn't realize is that he is so much stronger than that. McNair, break the shackles and let yourself free! Gruden and Cowher will be there with arms wide open.

Here we go again with this short-sighted "San Francisco has officially turned it around" theory again.

5-1 doesn't qualify as officially turning it around. Just ask Josh McDaniel. Let's revisit this topic in 6 weeks.

Eight years and we've never started 3-0.

Week to week is more like it... Once they lose to a scrub in the coming weeks, they'll be similar to the Rams of last year.... Likable but not taken seriously

At least the 49ers (along with every other team) know when to cut loose failures and underachievers.

Heading into Year 6 for Kubiak.

No one believed that Josh McDaniels had turned anything around, but Harbaugh is a different story, even 8-8 is a turnaround for that franchise.

What was the Texans record last year again?

And we've never been 3 games over .500 in our entire history. Depressing. Doesn't mean SF has officially turned it around, though.

Good point. Can't argue with that one...

But again, let's see how Detroit and SF are doing in 6 weeks before we say they've officially turned it around.

Yes, and they've benched him how many times in that timespan?

I will say that he's beyond abysmal in challenging. They need to hire a consultant just for that. We were all screaming for him to challenge that long catch Smith made on Kareem Jackson and Manning.

to be fair, initially there was no question on that catch, by everyone. It was only on a few replays that it was noticed. There was no way he could have seen that. That responsibility falls on whoever is upstairs and should be looking at that.

They are not paper-thin at WR; please stop repeating this. Walter, Mason and Jones are a competent trio of receivers; with AJ healthy, that's one of the better 4-deep groups in football.

No team can easily absorb the loss of its best player; harder when the best player is one of the NFL's best players. Brandon Lloyd may have augmented that concern to a degree - but let's not pretend Andre Johnson-level replacements were readily available beyond him.

(Same, btw, can be said for starting-level CBs. None were dealt. They may have been available - but we have no way of knowing and it always takes two to deal. They can't raid another team and leave behind a gaggle of draft picks.)

I admittedly haven't watched a lot of the 49ers, but I have seen some and they look for real. They are forcing a lot of turnovers and not making Alex Smith try to do too much. And unlike the '09 Broncos, they don't have any real threats staring them down from behind in the division. Give Harbaugh another offseason to add more pieces and they could be dangerous.

Detroit definitely cannot keep up this pace -- they've got the Packers twice, Saints, Falcons, Chargers, Raiders, and the Bears won't be easy to beat again. I think they will get the wild card if Stafford can stay healthy, though.

    this X 1000000000

falling backwards into a division title and the playoffs is not an accomplishment. the dude has had 6 damn years to turn this team around and we're still having the same damn discussions and struggling with the same damn mediocrity.

enough of this nonsense. there are PROVEN winning coaches who would jump at the chance to run this team yet for some reason here we are talking about rewarding a borderline terrible coach the first time he sniffs success.

kubiak will NEVER take this team to the promised land (ie, a superbowl title) and that is the only thing that sohuld matter.

I'm 100% with you. If they lose Sunday... They can redeem themselves if they're 6-4 at their bye - otherwise, I'll officially be shifting into SOS mode and riding out the season until it's time to join the overflowing chorus calling for a total house-cleaning.

If the Texans can't win their division this season then they're never going to win it. Seriously, failure to make the playoffs = NFL version of the Clippers.
