Yeah, except that this is a poll conducted by ESPN, which is a largely an 18-49 male demographic... who no doubt would poll bad numbers compared to a nationwide demographic. And even with that skewed demo... they still got 47% giving them a "passing" grade of C or better.
I think you may have something here. Drag out the surviving members of The Runaways for a couple while you're at it. 35+ years later and they still have it. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BRpZU-sFVVY?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I thought the Runaways were an all girl band - that band has one female (Cherie Currie) and the rest of the band are dudes. Nonetheless, Currie still looks great for her age and watching that clip reminds me of what Chris Berman would say: "You're with me, leather."
I saw the The Who last year but it was an OK show. yes they're a legend but talking about that show, it was ok ok ok. looking at old men doing rock n roll is just plain crappy.
Looked like I was watching The Wiz when they were in the emerald city <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ommGsn4_5Qs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Green Day hasn't been any good since Dookie. The one band I can think of that has some hits and hasn't completely sold out is RHCP. Weezer would be ok too. Or have a mainstream hip hop all-star show with Jay-Z, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, & Snoop.
Weezer may end up playing the superbowl in the next 5-10 years once their age group becomes the key marketing demographic, Green Day may also do the same. I could see RHCP too, as well as Coldplay and Foo Fighters. Jay Z, Kanye, etc. also... but Snoop would likely never get an invite though, even for a rap heavy lineup, because of his well known association with GGW and uh... other illegal recreational activities.
People are entertained by all kinds of crap (ie. Jerry Springer, Jersey Shore, The Bachelor, insert other stupid reality TV show here). WTF does age have to do with it?? That statement goes to show that your musical tastes are about as deep as Fergie's non-autotuned vocal skills.
I have to agree that the Who's halftime performance was pretty bland. A halftime show isn't all about the music. It's supposed to be an entertaining spectacle for everyone watching, not just fans of that particular group. I'm a big fan of The Who and know that they are legends, but they just weren't very entertaining during the halftime show. That said, I'd take The Who on life support over the grease fire that is the Black Eyed Peas. They have to be the worst live performers I have ever seen. Saw them last year in Houston for my friends bday. You think Sunday was bad? Try listening to it for frikken 3 hours straight. It took all I had to keep from gouging my eardrums out. I'm still not sure if I made the right decision.
Maybe they should go a different direction next year and have the fans vote in the band of their choice...pick like 10 groups from different genres and let the viewers decide.
I forgot, we can embed on this board... <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BibR2SKY2AI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This should spin into a who is actually good live, since few "artists" are actually good live ...off the top of my head actually great live: let's see Shakira, RHC, who else? . . .
So just to give more perspective, I just watched the dvr'ed version of the halftime show....and it did sound horrible. Even if dont like their music, it did not sound like this in the stadium. They really blew it with the tv version.. from black eyed peas, to usher....it sounded terrible on tv...but luckily in person it didnt...
