OKC and Reno were caught up in a duel, with the Redhawks coming out on top 2-1. Lucas Harrell allowed 2 hits in 7 shutout innings, walking 2 and striking out 4. He also contributed to his cause with an RBI single in the 2nd. Jose Vallejo had an RBI single of his own right before Harrell. It took Adam Bailey 5 games to go deep. He had a solo homer in the 6th for his first homer with Corpus, as the Hooks took care of Arkansas 7-1. Bailey, who added a sac fly in the 2nd, now has 22 on the season between Lexington, Lancaster, and now Corpus. Kody Hinze went 3-4 and also drove in 2. Brian Esposito, David Flores, and Brandon Barnes drove in 1 apiece. Erick Abreu had a masterful performance on the mound tonight, allowing an unearned run on 2 hits in 8 innings, walking 1 and striking out 10. Lancaster fell to Modesto 7-3, as Jose Cisnero got knocked out in the 5th by allowing 2 2-run homers in the inning. In all, he allowed 6 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings, walking 3 and striking out 9. Austin Wates had an RBI double in the 5th, and Jonathan Singleton followed that up with a 2-run single. Lexington torched Stephen Strasburg, but ended up getting torched 9-6 by Hagerstown. Domingo Santana went 2-4 with 3 RBI. Telvin Nash went solo in the 8th, his 12th of the season. Tyler Burnett had the other RBI. Luis Cruz allowed 8 runs (5 earned) on 11 hits (3-run homer) in 5 innings, walking 2 and fanning 6. In their first game coming off the All-Star break, a Zach Johnson solo homer in the 2nd (his 4th) was the only run Tri-City could plate in a 3-1 loss to Williamsport. Juri Perez went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. Greeneville got pummeled by Pulaski to the tune of 13-1. Josh Magee homered to lead off the game, his 2nd homer of the season. Then, the Mariners scored 13 unanswered, and that was all she wrote. Adrian Houser allowed 6 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits in 2 1/3, walking 4 and striking out 2. The GCL club was off. The Academy fell 7-4 to the Mets. Marlon Avea drove in 2, and Mario Gonzalez and Cristian Murillo drove in 1 each. Ambiorix De Leon allowed 2 runs on 3 hits (solo homer) in 1 1/3, walking 1 and striking out 3.
OKC's 5-run 7th busted their game with Reno open, resulting in a 6-3 victory. Brett Wallace and Oswaldo Navarro drove in 2 each. Jordan Schafer and Anderson Hernandez had 1 RBI each. AVH allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 5, walking 4 and striking out 3. Wesley Wright got the win in relief, allowing 1 hit and striking out 4 in 2 innings. Corpus was demolished by Arkansas 12-0, as they were held to 2 hits. Brandon Wikoff had a double, and that was pretty much it. Brett O got knocked around, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits (2-run homer) in 3, walking 1 and striking out 3. Lancaster took the opener of their series with Stockton by the score of 3-1. Jonathan Singleton homered in the 4th, his 3rd as a Jethawk, and 12th overall. Grant Hogue and Jordan Comadena drove in 1 each, as well. Wes Musick allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4... but he only went 4 innings. So, Wander Alvino got the win, allowing 1 hit, walking 2, and fanning 1 in 2 innings of relief. Lexington and Hickory never really got started... the Legends went in order in the top of the 1st, and the game was suspended with no outs and a man on first in the bottom half for the Crawdads. The game will resume at 4 Eastern, and they'll play all 9 innings. The game for Friday will start no earlier than 7:15, and it will be a 7-inning contest. Tri-City scored 1 in the top of the 9th, but were unable to push the tying run across, falling 3-2 to Williamsport. Miles Hamblin and Neiko Johnson had the RBIs. Jonas Dufek allowed 1 run on 1 hit (not a homer) in 4 innings, walking 1 and striking out 5. Adam Champion allowed 2 runs in the 6th for the loss. After getting mauled by Pulaski, Greeneville responded by scoring 2 in the 8th for a 4-3 win. Ariel Ovando doubled and had an RBI. Darwin Rivera went 3-4 with the go-ahead 2-run single in the 8th. Ricardo Batista pitched 6 innings of 1-run baseball, allowing 5 hits, walking 3, and fanning 5. He didn't get the win, as Rod Quintero served up a 2-run homer with 2 outs in the 7th, which left the door open for Scott Zuloaga, who got the win by coming in for Quintero and getting the final out of the inning. Yonathan Mejia's RBI single allowed the Gulf Coasters to tie their game with the Nationals at 8, but they ultimately fell 10-8 in 11. Justin Shults had a 2-run homer, his 3rd. Kelvin Vizcaino had a solo homer later, his 1st. Jose Fernandez, Ydarqui Marte, and Kyle Redinger drove in 1 each. Enderson Franco allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5, walking and fanning 1. Pedro Gomez allowed both runs in the 11th for the loss. The Academy scored 4 runs in the 7th in their 6-4 win over the Red Sox. Mesac Laguna's 3-run homer in the inning was the big hit, his 3rd of the season. Juan Santana and Mario Gonzalez drove in 1 each. Luis Abad allowed 2 runs on 2 hits.... in 1 2/3, and he went wild, walking 5 and striking out 2. Juan Delis got the win in relief, pitching 4 1/3, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking and striking out 2.
Didn't realize that, thanks for the catch. Also good to see him hitting well away from that ballpark.
Jarred Cosart had himself a nice outing last night... 6 innings 1 hit 0 er 5 k 10/1 GO/FO...impressive Ross Seaton goes tonight, he has had two straight dominant starts. If he can put together a third then we might be seeing the beginning of something.
OKC fell to Reno 5-3, as Brett Wallace, J.R. Towles, and Jose Vallejo drove in 1 each. Thebeat the Hyphen took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits (back-to-back solo homers in the 6th), walking 2 and striking out 7. Sadly, Jarred Cosart had to settle for a no-decision, as Corpus lost 4-1 in 12 to Arkansas. Emerson Frostad had the lone RBI in the 5th. Arcenio Leon allowed 2 runs in the 12th for the loss; Josh Zeid the other run. Lancaster trailed Stockton 2-0, then scored 4 unanswered for the win. Erik Castro had a 3-run homer, his 8th. Castro and the Jonathans (Singleton and Meyer) scored all 4 runs. Robby Donovan allowed 2 runs on 7 hits (2 solo homers) in 6 innings, walking 2 and fanning 6. Lexington and Hickory completed their game from Thursday, with Hickory winning 9-6. Domingo Santana went 0-4, but had 2 RBI. Mike Kvasnicka, Telvin Nash (who had a golden sombrero), Ben Orloff, and Ben Heath each drove in 1. Murilo Gouvea got the loss, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits (solo homer) in 4, walking 1 and fanning 3. In the scheduled game, the Legends won 4-2, as Delino DeShields went solo (his 7th) and Domingo Santana blasted a 2-run homer (his 8th) in the 3rd. Ruben Sosa went 1-3 and scored twice. Rafael Valenzuela and Matt Duffy had the RBIs. Kyle Hallock went 4, allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5. Dayan Diaz struck out 2 in a perfect 5th. Greeneville was outgunned 12-7 by Elizabethton. The Appy Astros allowed 6 in the 5th. Jean Carlos Batista had a 3-run homer in the 8th, his 1st with Greeneville and 2nd on the season. He drove in 4. Jesse Wierzbicki drove in 2, and Jordan Scott drove in 1. Tyson Perez allowed Y runs (4 earned) on 8 hits (3 homers) in 4 1/3, striking out 4. The GCL club was suspended in the 2nd, as they led the Marlins 1-0. The Academy beat the Royals 4-2, as Juan Santana had an RBI single and Teoscar Hernandez had a 3-run homer, his 7th. Agapito Barrios went 5, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 2 and fanning 4. Game 2 was suspended with no score in the 5th.
OKC took a wild one over Iowa, 11-10. After a 7-run 7th, the Redhawks proceeded to allow 5 in the 8th, and after scoring 1 to make it 11-9, the Cubs brought it back to a 1-run game once more. Thankfully, Juan Abreu was able to shut the door. Jordan Schafer went 5-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI, and scored twice. Jacob Goebbert had a 3-run homer in the 7th, his 2nd with OKC and 12th on the year. Luis Durango, Brett Wallace, and Drew Locke drove in 1 apiece. Dallas Keuchel went 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits, walking 3 and striking out 2. Xavier Cedeno got the win in relief, as he pitched a perfect 6th, striking out 1. In another wild game, Corpus nipped Springfield 10-9 in 10. Brandon Barnes homered twice (solo in the 1st, grand slam in the 6th), drove in 6, and scored 3 times. He now has 14 homers on the season. Kody Hinze was 2-6 with 2 RBI. After Springfield got the go-ahead run to break an 8-8 tie in the 9th, David Flores went deep with 2 outs in the bottom half. He has 5 with Corpus, and 17 overall. Brandon Wikoff also drove in a run. Ross Seaton allowed 3 hits. They were all homers. 2 solos and a 2-run homer. He was also a bit erratic in his 6 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) and 4 walks, while fanning 3. Jason Stoffel pitched the 11th to get the win. Lancaster blanked Stockton 3-0, as a 2-run homer from Jonathan Singleton (his 4th, and 13th overall) and a solo shot from Jio Mier (2nd, 7th) were enough, as the Jethawks got a career night from Andrew Robinson, who allowed 3 hits over 6 1/3 shutout innings, striking out 12. He combined with Kyle Greenwalt and Pat Urckfitz on a 4-hitter, and the trio combined for 17 strikeouts. Lexington got pummeled 10-3 by Hickory. Ruben Sosa had a 2-run double. Telvin Nash had an RBI double in the 1st and had another double. Tanner Bushue allowed back-to-back solo shots in the 5th (the first 2 batters he faced in the inning), which ended his night prematurely. In 4 innings + 2 batters, he allowed 7 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. After an absolute gem hidden between some stinkers in the upper levels (pitching-wise), the short-season leagues featured some dominating pitching tonight. After getting swept on the first leg of their roadtrip, Tri-City traveled to Brooklyn to begin a series. They took the opener in dominating fashion, 3-0. Rafael Valenzuela drove in 2; Miles Hamblin the other. But, the offense took a backseat tonight because..... Nick Tropeano, Tom Shirley, and Ryan Cole combined for a 1-hitter. Tropeano didn't allow a hit in his 5 innings, and was 1 walk away from being perfect in that span (the only walk issued by any TC pitcher). He struck out 9. Shirley allowed the only hit, and struck out 6. Cole worked the 9th and got the save, striking out 1. Greeneville held Elizabethton to 4 hits in a 6-0 victory. Josh Magee went 3-4 with 2 RBI. He entered August hitting .202. He's now up to .284. Jesse Wierzbicki and Ernesto Genoves went solo in the game. For Wierzbicki, that was his 5th; Genoves, his 4th. Wierzbicki also added another RBI. Ronald Sanchez drove in the other run. Chris Lee allowed 1 hit..... but he only went 3 innings. Why? He walked 5, despite 6 strikeouts. Luis Ordosgoitti, making his first appearance for Greeneville since July 25 after a rehab stint in the GCL, pitched the next 5 innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 2, and fanning 4. Jeremiah Meiners finished the game, allowing a hit and striking out 2. The GCL club found themselves down 3-0 entering the 6th, but they went on a 5-1 run from the 6th to the 8th to win 5-4. 5 drove in 1 apiece, led by Kelvin Vizcaino, who had a solo homer in the 7th. It was his 2nd of the season. Michael Feliz allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 5, walking 1 and striking out 4. The Academy scored 3 in the 3rd and 5th to beat the Dodgers 6-2. Juan Santana went 2-5 with 2 RBI. Mesac Laguna and Yoel Silfa drove in 1 each. Rey Guduan allowed an unearned run and a hit in 1 2/3. He walked 2 and struck out 3. The Academy was also supposed to play another game with the Dodgers, but that one was cancelled.
Why isn't Chase Davidson playing, he's been in Tri-city for over a week and he's only played in one game.
Paul Clemens had another good start, well good is a downgrade for him lately. 6 IP 6 hits 3 ER 5 K(2 Swinging) 2 BB 102 pitches 65 strikes 5/6 GO/FO Watched him throw tonight and I can see why Wade/Heck wanted him in the trade. Dude has an explosive FB and a great curve, think Daryl Kile. He needs to develop a consist third pitch but if he does..watchout. Clemens was throwing mid 90s at pitch 100.
He has to be a candidate for a September call-up and potentially a spot in the starting rotation in 2012.
Paul Clemens is not currently on the 40 man roster. See http://houston.astros.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=hou
You can easily make room for him by DFA someone like Jeff Fulchino, Jose Valdez, Blake King, or Jason Michaels. That shouldn't be an issue.
That J.A. Happ guy joined forces with Fernando Abad to throw a 1-hittter in OKC's 4-0 win over Iowa. Happ allowed the hit, walked 3, and struck out 6 in 7 innings. Abad went 6 up, 6 down. Jose Vallejo, Brett Wallace, and Luis Durango had RBIs. Corpus jumped out to an 8-1 lead on Springfield and took the game 9-6. The Hooks' 1-4 hitters all scored twice. Emerson Frostad had a 2-run homer in the 3rd, his 3rd. Adam Bailey went 3-5 with a double and 3 RBI. T.J. Steele (who doubled and tripled) and Brandon Wikoff drove in 2 each. Paul Clemens: Jason Stoffel allowed 2 hits in the 9th, but also fanned 2 to get the save. Lancaster couldn't quite finish off the sweep of Stockton, losing 3-2. Jonathan Meyer and Alex Todd had RBI doubles. Zach Grimmett got the bare minimum quality start, allowing 7 hits, walking 3, and fanning 3. Lexington and Hickory were rained out and the game was called with the Legends trailing 4-0 in the middle of the 4th. The game will not be made up, as that was the final meeting between the clubs. Mike Foltynewicz was tagged for 3 runs in the 2nd. Tri-City's game with Brooklyn was suspended with the ValleyCats leading 6-2. Bubby Williams is 2-2 with a solo homer, his 5th. He also added another RBI. Matt Duffy also had 2 RBI. Jacke Healey added an RBI of his own. Jamaine Cotton allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 3 innings, striking out 3. Safe to assume he's not coming out for the restart. Today's scheduled game will be 7 innings. The teams will meet again tomorrow in Troy to begin a Tri-City homestand. Greeneville led Elizabethton 3-2, then the Twins scored 12 unanswered from the 7th to the 9th to run away 14-3. Jordan Scott hit his first professional homer, a solo shot in the 3rd. Ernesto Genoves had the other RBI. Francis Ramirez allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 4 innings, walking 1 and striking out 3. Zach Dando worked the 5th and 6th without much trouble. Then he trotted out for the 7th and got 1 out, but allowed 2 runs, and that's where the wheels fell off. Therefore, he gets the loss. The GCL club scored 3 in the 5th to beat the Mets 5-3. Justin Shults drove in 2. Kelvin Vizcaino, Alfredo Gonzalez, and Joe Witkowski drove in 1 each. Luca Martone, a 19-year-old Italian, went 3-4 with a double and scored twice. Freddy Tiburcio allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings, walking 2 and striking out 4. The Academy was off.
One night after blanking Iowa 4-0, OKC found themselves on the wrong end of that line. They were held to 4 hits; Anderson Hernandez had 2, and Brett Wallace and Chris Johnson had 1 apiece. Wallace doubled for the Redhawks' only extra-base hit. Too bad, because Lucas Harrell pitched well once again. In 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4. Too bad, because Harrell also had to take the loss. Corpus fell 4-1 to Springfield. JVO had the only RBI. Brandon Wikoff, who scored, went 2-2 and walked 3 times. Erick Abreu had a bare minimum quality start, allowing 9 hits (solo homer) and striking out 4. Lancaster had the night off; they are set to begin a series with the Inland Empire 66ers. Lexington allowed Asheville to score 4 in the 3rd, which led to a 5-4 loss. Luis Cruz allowed 2 homers in the inning, as Clemson QB Kyle Parker smacked a 3-run homer, his 21st. One batter later, Corey Dickerson went solo, his 27th. Domingo Santana had a 2-run homer in the 3rd, his 9th. Roberto Pena and Delino DeShields drove in 1 each. Cruz went 5 innings, allowing 5 runs (unearned in the 1st and 4 earned in the 3rd) on 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 6. Tri-City finished up last night's game with Brooklyn with a 7-4 victory. Dayan Diaz got the win, pitching 4 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 4. In the scheduled game, the ValleyCats walked off 3-2 losers in 8. Yes, 8. They were held to 3 hits, and Williams and Healey had the RBIs. Juri Perez went 4 1/3, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, walking and fanning 4. Mitchell Lambson allowed the walk-off homer to Amauris Valdez. The Gulf Coasters and the Academy were off.
Ah, forgot about Greeneville. They lost to Bluefield 7-5 in the opener of their series. The Appy Astros scored all 5 runs in the first 2 innings, jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Then the Blue Jays scored 6 unanswered. Jean Carlos Batista homered, a solo shot in the 1st for his 3rd homer (4 this season). He added 2 more on a 2-run single in the 2nd. Josh Magee and Jordan Scott drove in 1 apiece. Adrian Houser went 4, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3. Brad Propst allowed a go-ahead 2-run homer to Gustavo Pierre in the 8th to get the loss.
Brett Obelholtzer just turned in a fantastic start for CC... 7.2 innings 4 hits 0 er 7 k 1 bb 100 pitches 63 strikes 6/6 GO/FO
