They had Springer and Armstrong take their physicals early to get them out of the way. I don't think it had much to do with sign-ability. I think he and his dad need to STFU. If he was a 1st round arm, he would have been drafted there. I think it's weird that his dad, a former major leaguer, would make comments like he has.

This makes a good trade into a great trade...

“@PhoulBallz: Domingo Santana confirms he's headed to the #Astros as a PTBNL. Here's my interview w/ him from earlier this yr- http://t.co/DGFb3oH *#MiLB”

I don't think you can call it a good trade or bad trade until like 3 or 4 years later and see how the young guys develop. Doesn't mean much how they are rated by these magazines.

Disagree slightly, you can say good or bad trade because of the expectations in trading Hunter. Wade got three top 10 Phillies' prospects, I don't think anyone saw that coming. I do think the ultimate decision on the trade will take years and thus who won or lost won't be known for a while.

agree with both of you. would have been a monster trade deadline for wade if he came out of the braves trade with an equivalent return to the pence one.

The New York-Penn League is on their All-Star break, and Matt Duffy, Justin Gominsky, and Kyle Hallock were the three ValleyCats named to the National League All-Star team. Those are the players whose parent clubs are National League teams.

Tri-City will resume their season on Wednesday, when they travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, (better known as the home of the Little League WS) to take on the Crosscutters.

Just me talking out loud but if Wade holds out a bit longer that afternoon, the Giants and Braves would have gotten into a bidding war. Apparently the Giants wanted Bourn bad but wouldn't give up Gary Brown. It could have come down to who is willing to move thier top prospect...Brown or Delgado.

At this point, Clemens, Obie and Abreu have looked good. Hopefully one of those two starters become solid middle of the rotation guys and Abreu a solid reliever. Schafer is a wild card to the deal.

I also disagree to an extent. Sure, those Bourn-trade prospects could pan out well. But given their current prospect status, that would more likely be attributable to our development staff because they are not considered good prospects.

Look at it like this: between Pence and Bourn, Bourn actually produced more WAR (3.7) this season than Pence (3.0). Both the Phillies and Braves systems are considered top 10, if not top 5. Yet for Pence we got their top 2 prospects, a fringe top 10 (Santana), and another hard thrower (Zeid). For Bourn we got injured, bust top prospect (Schafer) and maybe one top 10 prospect (clemens or obie, i don't even know).

You can clearly rate one trade above the other. Cosart and Singleton are both top 50 prospects. None of the Bourn package was even top 100.

This isn't MLB 2K11 unfortunately. You can't make someone do a trade with you just because the WAR and prospect status match up.

Until this PTBNL was announced, I actually thought the Bourn trade netted us better return.

You certainly did not need to hang on to Bourn for any particular reason. As far as I am concerned, anything we got for Bourn was found money. He was not going to be on this team by 2013 either way. Either we lose him for nothing, or we get these guys from the Braves.

Probably not the best they could have gotten, and they would have gotten 2 draft picks if he left as a FA, so we would have gotten something.

Seriously? What about the Bourn deal was better than the pence trade? Best pitcher in either deal: Cosart. Best hitter in either trade: Singleton. 2nd best hitter: Santana.

If the Braves offer truly was the best we could get at the deadline, we should have waited and traded him in the offseason. He's far better than a "found money" player. He's a cheap, the best defensive CF in the game and a top leadoff man. Maybe he wasn't as in demand as Pence (teams wanted power this deadline) but he was a solid trading chip and should have gotten more back. There's a reason the deal was universally panned.
