Keuchel must've been feelin' pretty good with that fat 5-run cushion before even talking the mound in his first AAA start. Then...
Glad to see they're giving Schuck the chance. What little I saw of Delgado was not impressive, to say the least.
I went to our Minor League front page and was amazed at the change in his ERA. Never expected to see 11 ER given up. I can't believe they left him in long enough to do that.
A couple of things about Dallas' start last night, I watched a bit of it, Chris Johnson had a groundball go off his glove that would have been a DP and ended the 1st with zero runs. A big league 3B makes that play but he didn't and the flood gates opened. They left him out there because he wasn't throwing a ton pitches, he only gave up one homer but eight singles, a lot of them not hard hit. Vegas is a really bad pitchers park, imagine Lancaster, so not the best of assignments for Dallas. Last night was a clear example of why people don't consider him a top notch prospect. When you don't miss bats then games like last night happen, lots of bloops and seeing eye singles turn into big innings. Still think he will adjust but he'll need a good defensive team around him to survive in the bigs.
Yea, I didn't watch the game but I looked at the play-by-play last night. I noticed that there weren't many hard hit balls. Still, a pretty rough debut. He seems to be a pretty cocky kid so it'll be interesting to see if he can bounce right back.
No updates on all our new prospects? This is the only thread worth reading right now in regards to Astros news.
Nothing much happened last night besides Murilo Gouvea striking out 10 in 4 innings. 22 year old Brazilian kid with good numbers out of the pen. Not sure if they may be thinking of converting him to a starter by extending him to 4 innings last night. Today Cosart gets his 2nd start, first at home. His first start was excellent 6 innings 2 hits 4 ks 0 BB 73 pitches.
I've been away from home all weekend, so I've been out of the loop a bit. Tri-City just dropped the first game of a doubleheader to Vermont 8-3. They were supposed to play in Troy last night, but the game was rained out. Since the Lake Monsters don't make a return trip, they let people who had tickets to that game redeem them for any remaining regular season home game. As for game 1, Rafael Valenzuela had a solo shot. Looks like Chris Epps got the call-up last night after opening up the year in the Gulf Coast League. He went 1-3 as the #8 hitter, playing left field. Miles Hamblin and Zach Johnson drove in 1 as well. Jonas Dufek got rocked, allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits in 1 1/3, walking 4 and only striking out 1. The Gulf Coast club and the Academy are off.
Yeah, not one of his better outings. 3.1 IP, 8H 7R 7ER 3BB 1SO. As he said #backtowork I'll let tilii give us the full update later
Cosart's biggest issue has been consistency and again tonight it bit him. Dude has the stuff but still only 21 and focus appears to be an issue. He was crusing for two innings but blew up in the 4th, including a wild pitch on an intentional walk...Rick "WILD THING" Vaughn style. Singleton is blowing up tonight, HR, double and BB in 4 trips...Mier also has two hits and a homer, which is damn good to see.
Cosart was definitely not cruising. Lots of traffic in the 2nd and 3rd, and he was fortunate that they only scored 1 run till he got rocked in the 4th.
1st inning took 8 pitches but the 2nd, your right, he did a nice job of getting out of a mini-jam but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the 3rd and 4th.
I've stopped checking Mier's progression at this point. He's probably no better than the third best shortstop prospect in the system. Villar has a much, much better chance of being an everyday major league shortstop.
