i think ishmael smith is a good 3rd point guard for this team. he passes and i think he can do the job if we get another lowry injury (knock on wood).
I didn't know Larry Sanders had range. He's hitting 3's with ease. He just hit a game tying 3 with 7 seconds left.
Yeah he showed that in college but I wouldn't want him doing too much of that right away. Honestly If I was doing a mock draft today I would pick Cousins, Wall, Turner, Sanders, Favors, Patterson, George, Johnson... in that order. Yes Cousins over Wall. he is that talented. Of course he may be a psycho and I would definitely have him evaluated but he is the far and above the most talented player IMO. Also I put George over Patterson but they are close and if I was the Rockets I take Patrick. I don't understand these teams Who took Udoh, Aldrich, Hayward, Davis ahead of Sanders and Patterson.
NO It was sarcasm... taken out of context it looks like a stupid thing to say but at the time if you were watching it was so obvious it was a joke. Barry did not want anything to do with broadcasting anything good about Leunen because he played for his rival state college and barry would not wish to say anything nice about anyone from that college. Just a joke.
The guy - Demarcus is just beastin in the SL, huge numbers no wonder Morey had him at Top 3 and Patterson at 6
Jermain Taylor was top ten in point totals for the summer leauge...and of the top ten he was in the top 5 of FG%...thats saying alot when Centers like Cousins were in that group...whp typically have higher FG% I think that is a very important stat because there were alot of high draft picks from this year and last as well as pro starts like JR Smith. Also, i think daryl morey should walk up to this kings and make his all in move for cousins. Say...I will give you Jordan Hill /some combination of ours/knicks picks and whatever asset it takes...JT? then use MLE money on wafer. I think that solves all our problems...and if we still are lacking by mid year flip ariza/jeffries and 2nd round pick for Iggy I have thought and thought and thought...Its the perfect move...him or Marc Gasol. We need a 7ft/defensive big that could eventually replace Yao and provide yao insurance in the meantime.
Ok, time to grade the summer league players. Jordan Hill: B- While Jordan put up decent numbers overall, he proved that he really does not have a go-to move and can easily be pushed around by mediocre bigs. His role will still be that of a weakside player without the ball, on the move he can be effective, but he is not good at posting up, unless he has a favorable matchup. Patrick Patterson - B The rookie came out like gangbusters and then faded like an old pair of jeans. Still he showed glimpses of what he can do, he is a smart player who moves well without the ball, and has a very good sense of where to go on the court. Decent rebounder, showed some good low post moves, just needs to find his way in the NBA. Jermaine Taylor - C+ He led our summer league team in points, aggression and turnovers. His goals coming into the SL were set out by the coaches to play more of a team game, he did a pretty good job of that in game 2, but the rest of the games, he was a single minded player. In the NBA, you not only have to be a good athlete, you also have to be able to think on the move. So far that is JT's problem. I love his bulldog attitude, but he is not good enough off the dribble, or quick enough on the perimeter to consistently beat NBA players, he needs to learn to play the team game before he becomes a rotation player in the league. Chase Budinger B Chase started out the summer league with stated goals of being a better playmaker, and overall leader on the court. He has a tendency to blend in, and that is exactly what he was doing his first few games. He finally showed in the last game what he is capable of doing if he is more aggressive. He has all the skills and the smarts to be a very good NBA player, it is all about confidence and want to...that will determine where he lands. Robert Horry had tons of ability too, but he settled for being a role player, the jury is out on what Chase will do....not much learned in the SL about that question, IMO. Ishmael Smith - B+ Another undersized PG for the Rockets? Yeah, I know, but the kid really showed some nice passing ability, some good attacking the basket ability, and some pretty good decision making with the ball. One of the hardest things to do is play PG with a new team, you don't know where each other player wants the ball or what they can do, so you hesitate on your passes a bit. I thought Ish did a fantastic job of setting up teamates, protected the ball and did pretty well on defense. He should at least get a Training camp invite, and maybe a shot at the 3rd PG spot on the regular season team. Maarty Leunen - C- Maarty was tough to grade for me because he and Patrick Patterson playing styles are very close to each others, but PatPat is just a more athletic player. I like Maarty and think he could play in the NBA in the right situation, unfortunatly for him, that time has passed for the Rockets, If he wants to play in the NBA, he needs to move to another team. So, a 3-2 record overall, not bad, and some good looks at our younger talent. Overall grade for the Rockets summer league team: B - They competed hard, learned some stuff, but a lot of the players still left unanswered questions, primarily Hill, Cbud and Taylor. DD
i think ishmael smith is our jewel in the rough. He needs to get signed because some other team will pick him up. Players loyalties are strongest when they are fighting to get a contract, so we can get him for peanuts.
Good analysis... I know some people trashed Hill but I saw him progress over the week. He is a project at center but at PF he is at least an adequate backup who will only get better. The whole team most part improved from their disastrous 3rd game. Really o know that they ran 2 adays while the played 5 games in 6 days, their results were all impressive. I always thought of CBud as a SF but now I see him as the martin backup. I would give Jermaine taylor a b. Not because he played so wel but because he showed me improvement in his shot and expect it to only et better. Plus it was clear to me that teams scouted Taylor and stopped allowing him to get to the basket so easily. I see a role for him as instant offense off the bench much like your beloved Von Wafer performed for us. Smith is definitely a playmaker. I wouldn't mine signing him and keeping on the DL for a while. if he can get his shot down he will be a steal. If he can't he is still nice insurance if Lowry or Brooks get injured.
LOL - I never had a mancrush, I just asked if he could come over and be like the 10th man. I think he is borderline NBA material, and in the right situation could be an end of the rotation guy....sort of a Scott Padgett type. But, we don't have room for him in Houston anymore. DD
He might be able to make it after one more overseas season. I didn't think you had a mancrush for once.
