Besides being a clear upgrade for the team. AK47's $17 million expiring contract is large enough to allow the Rockets to deal for someone like CP3 and absorb a salary dumped contract in the same trade.

Example: AK47 + both NY picks + filler (Hayes & Andersen) for CP3 and Emeka

That would be the strategy used imo to land somebody like Paul or Iggy the opposite of what is happening.

Clear upgrade? It's a clear downgrade. AK47 isn't a good defender at the 3 spot and Fesenko isn't even a viable backup center, let alone a starter. Battier, Jeffries, and Hill are expiring and make almost the same amount as AK47, so scratch that, too.

Your example wouldn't be able to get CP3, anyway.

    Please, AK47 isn't a good defender?

With a single large contract a team can package younger assets on smaller contracts. Multiple large contracts can make it hard to do so. As teams are restricted to a max 15 players on their rosters in-season.

Was DM thinking about Fernandez as some point not long ago. Wonder what happened with that deal.

we've known that Morey's been after Martin for years.
what other players do you think are high on Morey's shopping list?
(not including Kobe, Lebron, CP3 etc)

    XBoshX-crossed out
    XCousinsX
    XChandlerX

-G Wallace - His aggressive style of play fits our team profile. Under Brown, he's become a top 5 defensive player and would make our club into a top 3 defensive team. He also has elite athleticism, rebounding, and is an opportunistic scorer. Add to his cap-friendly contract and I wouldn't be surprised if he was our top target at SF.

-Iggy - Is a playmaker (which our team needs), strong defender, and great athlete. His contract is not as friendly as Wallace's but he has been an iron-man in years past; something that would be a welcome addition on our team.

-McGee - Young and mobile 7 footer that is athletic, rebounds, and blocks shots. He seems like the classic "underrated because he plays for a bad team" type of gem.

Who do you think are included in his list and why?

He doesn't have the lateral quickness to be a good man defender at the 3. That would be Brooks, Martin, AK47 getting on the perimeter, which would put Yao (or Fesenko, am I right) in foul trouble before tip-off. Battier is better than Kirilenko. Ariza is better than Kirilenko. They are also better fits than Kirilenko, who happens to be as injury-prone as they come. Fesenko is just garbage.

In your (frankly unreasonable) deal, we're trading three players for two. You don't think a team with maybe 10 legitimate NBA players can afford to waive one of the D-leaguers collecting paychecks to play defense in practice? Sure.

    It's a bad trade. Utterly.

    Was DM really after Cousins?

    He was after Fernandez too.

    Iggy
    Speights
    Fernandez
    Chandler
    Bosh

Anybody who thinks AK47 is not a good defender must not have watched our 2 playoff series against them. AK47 pretty much locked down what was once a prime T-Mac. As much as it pains me to say it but he is hands down better than Ariza and even Battier at this point.

Also Fesenko held his own pretty well in the playoffs last season against the Nuggets when Okur went down with his injury.

Ryan hollins may be a nice trade acquisition right now...might be the best we can do without giving up too much in a trade of in salary.

giving him too much credit, if you think t-mac averaging a near triple double both years while scoring 25+ points is lock down then we might as well resign t-mac and let him guard lebron next year cause he can "lock" him up. I'm aware for one of the years t-mac only shot 43% from the field but I wouldn't call a 2% dip in field goal...locked down....

Nothing stopped a prime t-mac except t-mac himself.

 Sloan was smart enough not to let Kirilenko guard T-Mac more than sparingly. He shared that assignment with Fisher, Giricek, Harpring, Korver, and Brewer over those two years with AK maybe getting the least amount of time guarding T-Mac. Of course, T-Mac still averaged over 26 point per game.

Ask a Jazz fan how well AK47 guards wing scorers.

No, he didn't. That's why they had to play the 6'8'' Boozer at center. Because Fesenko is trash.

It seems to me that Al-Jeff is heading to Utah.

    perfect trade for the rockets

    address all our needs

1: Gets a Rim-Protecting big man that is a legit nba starter
2: Gets rid of the log jam and redundancy we have at the SF position
3: Makes our team that much more attractive to watch

I pretty much mention this exact trade just a couple pages up except I was expecting Chandler to be in Toronto. Now that that trade fell through, I'm not so sure he's available. I'm guessing Jordan wants to see what he can get with his expiring contract at the trade deadline in Feb.

Does anybody think that Jordan would do Wallace for Ariza and Brooks?

How about Patterson+Budinger+Ariza+Andersen+Jeffries+2012 first rounder for Thad Young and Iguadola.

    Yao/Hill
    Scola/Young
    AI/Battier
    Martin/Taylor
    Brooks/Lowry

Giving up a bit too much,IMO. Let's see what Patterson can do first. He could develop into a solid role player. Iggy isn't much of a shooter, otherwise I would be for it.
