MLE? He doesn't play defense and can't rebound to save his life. He a classic example of what Steve Nash can create. Shawn Marion v2.0. He better be paying Steve Nash if he gets ANY contract larger than what he made this year. Hell, Grant Hill is 3X the player he is and I would still be scared of paying Hill the MLE.
Im not in love with bigs that can shoot from range but it's a rare commodity in the league nowadays, so all im saying is there are less than a handfull of bigs in the 7Ft Height range (say Dirk and Okur) that can jack up 3's and command a tall body out there (and out of the paint) contesting those shots. Just imagine Yao playing one on one against Bynum and the Lakers with Pau defending Frye out on the perimeter...very soothing to think about if you ask me!!!
You must not have seen the playoffs this year then. Pau murdered Frye on the boards and on offense. Did you see Reshard Lewis fail against KG as well. I HATE!! HATE!! PF's that have Zero Post moves and rely on 3 pointers and STILL can't rebound or Boxout properly. Robert Horry could rebound and play defense so I loved him but these clowns like Frye, Lewis and even LeMarcus Aldridge at times make me scream at my TV.
As long as we have Hill to tie up, or at least slow down, Gasol, we need a big center to give the Lakers' Bynum fits. When Yao can't do it, we need another monster in the middle. Free agent Zydrunas Ilgauskas still has game -- both defensively and offensively. He's slower than Frye (yes, I'd rather acquire Frye for less money), but he is still effective. The Big Z might be a good alternative if we can't acquire a center in the draft.
I think we will sign B Miller this summer with the MLE or part of it. Good passer, good shooter, knows the offense, and will bang and rebound on D. Good backup veteran C for this team.
Amundson is a PF (of which we have plenty), and Jordan is a promising center Clipper owner Sterling likes (small contract coupled with solid potential). We'd have to give up Bud, and that is not appealing.
Amundson is listed as a center on espn.com but yes he may be a bit undersized but again in the playoffs against LA he held his own
Watching the Suns vs Lakers series forced me to hate Channing Frye. He can hardly even excel in an offense that is suited for him, and is one of the worst defenders I've noticed in a while. Players who are good at one thing and one thing only, are not keys to a championship team.
Jarred jeffries is a much better defender than Channing Frye. We cannot afford a power forward that can't play defense even if he is a great 3 pt shooter. If so let's just sign Marty Leunen. He provides that better at a lower cost. As for being a wildcat that's just stupid and irrelevant.
What we need is another Robert Horry, a big with 3 pt range that can also play weakside defense at the rim. DD
Of course, every team in the league needs a Robert Horry clone. His defense in the '95 finals against Orlando was phenomenal. As soon as you find this fictional person, let me know. Big Shot Bob had a pretty unique skillset.
All I know is that Steve Nash has made a lot of average NBA players A LOT of money playing alongside them.
When the game would get tight in our playoff series against the Blazers, I remember praying that they would get Frye the ball. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn under pressure, yet he seemed compelled to shoot.. He was truly the proverbial black hole. Whenever they sent him back to the bench, I would get nervous. I know it's human nature to have a short historical memory, but come on people it's only been a year! He's awful!
I agree, not saying they are easy to find, just saying that is what the team really needs. I like the way you think. DD
Understood... I would kill to have the 1995 vintage of Robert Horry on this team. Do you have any suggestions on who could fill this role for us, other than your European du jour?
