Bosh is not a one of a kind player, he is a stats warrior, but not a guy that is going to lead a team anywhere. I am not saying Scola is as GOOD as Bosh, but he is not that far off, Bosh is an all star, Scola is a near all star. Why pay $20 million when you can pay less than half and get about the same production, and more durability and hustle. DD
I agree 100% Pritchard, from what I understand, tried to low-ball GM's into taking Raef Lafrentz's expiring contract. That didn't go over too well with most GM's. Morey, while stern and a no-nonsense negotiator, looks out for both parties involved. Its a common misconception that Morey is some evil wizard out to screw everyone in the league.
you couldnt be more freaking wrong. you have to watch very very carefully who you give a max contract to. its very obvious. if that player is hurt a lot (problem in the recent past) or is so far from the level of a lebron, kobe, or durant that you give up a third of your team to get your even more screwed for another half decade.
Morey had been actively after Martin for the better part of two years. There was literally NOTHING that the Rockets could have done to speed up the trade that eventually went down. Agreed on the Scola negotiations, though. When "done right" by the organization, restricted free agency is typically a messy business. In the end (as I mentioned in my article), there will be some feelings of resentment by Scola towards Les and Morey. But I have a feeling that Luis is mentally strong enough to get past those feelings pretty quickly. At least he knows that Rick Adelman loves him, and since Adelman will have little to do with the contract talks this summer, Luis likely won't lose any respect for Rick.
He doesn't have to lead his team if he comes here. He can be a solid number 2 option behind Brooks. The reason why I would go after him is because he is a significant upgrade over Scola. He is a solid 7 footer who can shoot better, rebound better, and is better defensively. With Scola, alot of players exploited his weakness. I've got a question for you. Who would you rather have against Pau Gasol, Scola or Bosh?
I think luis understands the business and he knows it and saw it first hand with landry. Sometime its better to offer a guy a fair contract vs waiting, but thats the way he does business. I think lowry is going to sign a 1yr tender vs scola getting a good deal.
What about Marc Gasol? He's 7 ft, plays center and I think the center position needs help more than anything else. I really haven't seen alot of Raptors game, so I don't know alot about Bosh's game, thats why I'm think Gasol would be more helpful to the team, and Memphis has like four 7 footers, I think they could lose one, and I think he would know how his brother plays more than anyone in the league, and that would be helpful against the Fakers
It is not that simple, if you have to give up someone like Brooks or Martin, or Budinger or Hill, to get it done...... DD
I think the rox are stuck and will take a great act to get them out of it. The entire Yao situation is going to screw the rockets big time.
your probably right. ive thought for a long long time that if it was (and it is) in the rockets best interests financially to keep yao ming even if it wasnt best for the team they would do it. SUCKS
I agree, this is the year...and I think anything Morey does is based upon NEXT year....and not necessarily this year. They HOPE Yao comes back, but I doubt they are truly counting on it. DD
And if Kobe, Durant, or Lebron are the only guys you are willing to pay, good luck on ever winning a championship...
Yao's contract expires next year. Unless he's rock solid, I don't think the Rockets will pay him what other teams will stupidly offer. I know, I know. He's a cash cow, but I really do think Les wants to win and won't screw the team just to attract Chinese money. I could be wrong, but I hope not.
Looks like Camby is going to be off the board, our options seem to be becoming Bosh or bust. I've mentioned this a few times already, Morey should do what he can to get Marc Gasol. Gasol fits EVERYTHING this team lacks and needs...just saying.
I bet the Kings may have felt similarly about Carl Landry. And what did the Kings give up to get Landry? I don't think that Morey is looking to break up the core of this team for anything less than a perrenial All-Star.
So what happens if Bosh decides Chicago or Miami makes more sense? Will the core be good enough to contend for a title? IMO there is no way you can count on Yao to be back to a 20-10 level, at least, not next year. Besides Bosh what other PF/C perennial all-star will be available, Al Jefferson? IMO Gasol will be a perennial all-star and a solid 18-10/20-10 guy within a year, so why not move some of the core to bring back something we desperately need? The Griz will not keep both Gasol and Thabeet when they will probably lose Gay and maybe Randolph.
First how do you get M. Gasol? I do not see many posts on this trade. Secondly, If we do not get Bosh, then we have Scola, Hill, this year pick, a MLE player etc. Only factor we do not know is if Yao could become back again, then we are contend if he can. Jefferson? He is too expensive.
I have NO idea what Memphis would go for but if they lose Gay I'd imagine Ariza would be a target, losing Gasol would probably require another big to take his spot and I am sure they would want another pick. Id START by offering... Ariza, Udoh(14th pick) or Hill and a 2nd rd pick for Gasol + Fillers (if necessary) Scola, Hill, the 14th pick and MLE would be nice and I think would help A LOT but is that enough to counter the elite in the West, not just make the playoffs but contend for a title? Even Morey has repeated time and time again we need another elite player to go with Yao, while Gasol isn't elite yet...pretty confident he will be soon enough.
