I suppose in theory that Morey could ask Bryan Colangelo (who currently is slotted for the #12 pick) who he would take if he had the 14th pick. But I doubt the Rockets would make their selection on that basis, when Chris Bosh will undoubtedly be undecided on his destination for next season. It will be a fun offseason. If by "active" you mean COMPLETING trades, then yes, the Rockets may not be too active. But they will most definitely be active LOOKING at trades this summer. I think Morey laid it out there in his "State of the Rockets" speech that the best opportunities for the team to improve itself will present themselves next February as opposed to this summer. I'm hoping to add a big name this summer, but I am fully prepared to have to wait it out until February 2011. If that's what's best for the franchise, then so be it.
I agree. There are so many free agents, and the Rockets could probably get one of the big ones in a sign and trade, but it may be at the expense of gutting the team. I think Yao's situation is going to make them more cautious, if they KNEW he would be back they could play it that way, but they have a good core now....and if you gut it to get another star player you run the risk of going nowhere fast. Morey has done and excellent job in acquiring assets and giving flexibility and versatility to this team.......but acquiring the star player he seeks without screwing up the chemistry is on an entirely different level. I have faith and hope.... DD
The Rockets have chips to get a very good player in a trade without gutting the team. Jeffries' expiring contract. This year's #14 pick Next year's pick, with the option to swap with NY. NY's 2012 pick. Jordan Hill, though we'd be week in the bigs if we traded him. Also, they can trade whoever starts in the position of the new acquiree.
If Yao is done, another star player would allow Morey to change directions quickly. They'll have a star player to build around, be it Yao, or the other guy.
Does anybody else fall in the category where whenever there is a trade involving Rockets players you get upset? I got to admit I fall in this category even if the Rockets upgrade a much needed position. Though I think it might be needed to trade Battier and or Chuck Hayes I will be very upset to see them leave. Every single Rocket even Tmac I grow to like, even though Tmac was a dramatic diva. This team very notably has great chemistry and donate a lot of time and their money in the community, when it is more than just basketball they care about. This is what makes the Houston Rockets a first class organization.
I feel you but I learned a long time ago to root for the name on the front of the jersey and not the one on the back for this very reason. I want the team to succeed 1st and for most while player success is 2nd in my book. Saying this, it can be hard to see favorites in other team's jerseys like Landry, Dream and OT.
It's been a long time, honestly. With salary caps and free agency, it's not a good idea to become too attached to any single player. All I want is another banner. Fifteen years is a long enough dry spell.
DO NOT TRADE BATTIER whatever you do....or you're going to feel sorry because we don't have anyone to defend Kobe and Lebron and some of those lethal scorers in the league. If we have to move someone to get a superstar in return...then Ariza will be the choice.
I haven't check this thread so I don't know if this has been brought up. But Rafer Alston anybody for the min? I say yes. With teams throwing him like garbage, I think he would sign for the min. I'm not saying he should be the first point or the 2nd. He would be a great 3rd point just in case Brooks or Lowry gets injured. He knows the offense. He works well with Yao and know how to make a proper pass to the big man instead of that stupid bounce pass Brooks like to do to Yao. It would be a great pick up if Rox can get him for the min. He's on record saying he might retire after this season, but if the Rockets give him a call, I don't know he would retire.
Trevor can defend Kobe pretty well, especially since he knows Bryant's style for obvious reasons. I remember him doing a good job against Kobe this season. Rafer is like T-Mac, he can't accept that he's washed up. From I understood, the whole debacle with Miami occurred because they replaced him with Arroyo and he flipped out. Don't want that.
Morey will be on channel 2 sports Sunday at 1030. Discussing free agency and resigning scola and lowry. Just a heads up. And yes I know I posted the same thing in the other thread.
Chris Bost free agent pro/con list: Knicks: 1. Great fans and largest basketball market (TV attention, marketing deals, celebrity interaction, parties, live crowds, etc..) 2. Weak supporting cast, 3. If they get LeBron, then he'd be a fool not to sign though I guess he wants to be the man 4. Knicks have very little sign and trade assets Chicago: 1. Great teammates, esp. Noah and Rose. Noah would take defensive pressure off of Bosh, almost any PF would love to play with Noah. Hell, anyone would love to play with Noah. Though, rest of supporting cast is weak... Deng overrated, Hinrich is average, no depth; though with cap space can lure other FAs to beef up roster 2. Big market and legendary franchise 3. Extremely disfunctional management and ownership - BIGGEST NEGATIVE OKC: 1. To win a championship, this would be Bosh's best option. KD, Westbrook, Green, Sefolosha, Harden, Ibaka and Bosh. God help us if he signs with Thunder. 2. Its Oklahoma! 3. Great management. 4. Lots of picks for sign and trade Miami: 1. Team up with 2nd best player in the East and contend immediately 2. Everyone loves Miami, especially super hot chicks looking to hook up with basketball players 3. Great management 4. Weak supporting cast beyond Wade 5. Florida tax situation is favorable, esp. compared with NY and Toronto 6. No sign and trade assets other than Beasley Houston: 1. Best supporting cast of all the other teams with Bosh remaining THE MAN. 2. Chinese money and favorable tax situation 3. Great management 4. Uncertainty of Yao's foot is the biggest hurdle, with healthy Yao, he's the best sidekick that Bosh could ask for... 5. Best sign and trade team if Bosh cares about taking care of Toronto on the way out Overall, if Bosh wants to flat out just win, then OKC is the best situation. Though, he will be in a contending situation in Miami and Chicago. So, why sign with Houston? If he wants to contend in the WEST (and away from LeBron) and be THE MAN while giving his old team the best deal, then the Rockets are his team.
I'm at work, but could someone please give a run down on what he says? Sure it's the same ol but you never know. Thank you in advance
Jeffries + #14 pick for Kapono + Green + #7 pick Rockets take on salary to move up to draft Aldrich as backup center. Sixers escape from the luxury tax threshold.
It is over, said he thinks that they may add one more piece, or with Yao back have his guys continue to develop and thinks we will be right there. Regarding Lowry: Even though he is not a starter, he will play big minutes, he wants all his players to feel like a starter, and said, he wants him back. Regarding Scola: Is like a hollywood actress, only has so much time to make their money so he understands Luis wants to get his.......but he wants him back as well. DD
If we are going to get back to being a top defensive team, I am hoping that Camby is up there on our to sign list...
