Was the 6 ever verified? I just remember it coming from some blog/rumor mill which bigtexxx repeated 47,000 times. If so, it means he magically got 2.33x smarter overnight.
Technically, I wouldn't be surprised if we did take a RB at 20. None of the CBs, safeties or even DTs projected to go in the first round at 20 are considered straight up first round quality talents. Personally, I am still hoping we pick up a legit nose tackle to play opposite of Okoye. Although the drop off in proven quality according to the analyst does make that a big gamble.
Assuming ET and Mays are off the board by #20, I agree that no other safety is a straight up 1st round talent. But Kyle Wilson (CB) and Dan Williams (DT) are 1st round talents and are projected to be there at #20. Patrick Robinson (CB) and Brian Price (DT) could very well go in the 1st as well. I agree about picking up a legit nose tackle. And while our track record with DL draftees hasn't been good, Dan Williams at 6-3 327lbs. could be that guy.
In Oregon, the wait was worth it for LeGarrette Blount. The maligned prospect stunned scouts by posting forty times which ranged in the mid 4.5 second area, a full two-tenths faster than his combine mark. Several scouts clocked Blount in times of 4.53 and 4.55 seconds after he weighed in at 238 pounds. The forty was the only item Blount had on his schedule today. : http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/03/11/pro.days.draft.news.tracker/#ixzz0idB2aIrx The times at Florida State were fast today. Cornerback Patrick Robinson ran a 4.38 40 and linebacker Dekoda Watson was also swift, clocking a 4.45. Both marks were an improvement from the times Robinson and Watson ran at the combine. Robinson looked solid in drills and has now opened the door to possibly being drafted during the final selections of the first round.
Could do a lot worse than Mathews in round 1 and Patrick Robinson in round 2. Heck, we even have a number 23 jersey for Robinson ready to be claimed. With all the smoke coming from the "Texans to take a RB in the first round" camp, I wonder if we're really going to go with a lineman (DT or OL) in the first (maybe trading down) and then going with a CB in round 2 and a guy like Blount or Ben Tate or Montario Hardesty in Round 3.
what smoke are you talking about? I dont recall hearing anything about them leaning towards a RB in the first
John McClain and an article saying the same thing for those who don't want to see him on video Lance Z's latest mock draft Those are just the local guys. Again, could be just smoke...
If John McCain says with conviction that the Texans will draft a RB in the first round, then the Texans will decidedly not draft a RB in the first round.
