I'm really interested in this series. I've been pleasantly surprised at Caron Butler's success in Dallas. I hope he continues to do well, but I've always thought of him as a player that looks better on paper and in highlights than he plays throughout the game. I kinda feel the same way about Richard Jefferson. I hope it goes 7...hate both teams so I guess it's a win win.
Texas Showdown in the first round! and this will be one of the most competitive first round match-ups in this years playoff. I want Spurs to beat the Mavs...i hope and guessing Spurs in 6
Haha, no way LA beats Denver in 5, and then sweeps Dallas. I'm picking Dallas to go the Finals right now.
voted Spurs in 7 Series will go 7 games but may go either way. Rooting for Spurs..I hate the mavs more.
K let's break this thing down (note matchups can change) since I believe this poll shows +50% voting ultimately Spurs > Mavs which is ridiculous. Parker vs Kidd: If this was 4 years ago I would give this to Parker (kind of ironic isn't it?) Kidd has been shooting 43%!!!! from behind the arc, looks 8 years younger, and has a nice post game to slow down Parker. Defensively, Kidd can play off of Parker, go under the screens to prevent dribble penetration, which is fine since Parker is shooting 29.4% behind the arc. Duncan vs. Dampier/Haywood: Mavs in this case can give Duncan a Dampier/Haywood/Nowitzki/Marion look in case TD does get hot which is very unlikely. I'd pick any Dallas player over Duncan at this point due to his age and the ability of the Mavs to push him outside to the high post where he'll most likely clank his bank shots or front rim his jumpers. Ginobili: Marion/Butler/Stevenson. This matchup goes to Ginobili, he's been playing like a BEAST as of late, and the Mavs need to keep a body on him. However, he is the only source of offense in the Spurs and it will be fun watching him play. Jefferson vs anyone: Jefferson's a scrub, he's a step slower than his Nets years, and looks like he's caught the Andris Biedrins syndrome. Most likely will be matched up with Caron Butler and look for Bulter to go 20+ points each night on this one. Blair: Blair looks like he'll play backup Center to TD and you really need a body on this guy as he's the Spurs only source for rebounds. I'll give him an edge over Haywood 60% of the time. McDyss/Bogans/Mason/Hill/Bonner Haywood/Terry/Stevenson/Barea/Beaubois Spurs bench looks old and slow. Look at this Mavs bench, could be 7th seed in the East just by themselves. Look for Mavs to outrun the Spurs and go 10 points+ every win at Dallas. IF spurs do happen to win a game it will be 4 points or less and the game will be under 95 points.
and here's to all you misguided Rockets fans who think that you have to hate the Mavs to be one: you can't blame them for bad officiating, that has to do with the officials. The Mavs are the only team in the NBA who expose every weakness on this Rockets team which is why we can't beat them most of the time. This is not a bad thing, I'm surprised why we can't be more like the Mavs. They have guys that can play multiple positions so they won't get burned on the pick/roll and switch screens. Rockets have a bunch of role players, and always get burned in interior d, we need versatility in this league. We should be getting guys like a Caron Butler, a Shawn Marion, and Jason Terry.
I am a native Houstonian living up here in Dallas for work. I went to college in the San Antonio area a few years ago. I naturally hate the Spurs more than anything and cant say I really like anything about the Mavericks as well. But I root for the Mavericks for the sheer chance that maybe they will shut up about the Cowboys for 2 seconds up here. You seriously cannot listen or watch anything sports related in Dallas without having to hear about what Jerry Jones had for lunch today. I never thought i would ever miss Houston so much but I do. Enjoy it.
Ban. We got Kevin Martin and Ariza, not necessarily worse than those guys, and definitely superior over the longer term. Besides, how does having a bunch of short guys mean we lack versatility? It means we have short guys. And sorry, we aren't the Mavs, we aren't going to be having a 85 million dollar payroll anytime soon. Get over it.
Why do you still post here. Isn't there a knicks or mavs forum you can go to? Spurs in 7. Mavs always find a way to choke in the playoffs.
Here you go tom http://www.dallas-mavs.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=4 http://www.knicksonline.com/forums/index.php Too much to comprehend?
I think 99 percent of people just started tuning out and assuming you to be wrong when you made this brilliant observation comparing an HOF player to the Mavs centers. Tim Duncan can be 50 for all I care, until he retire, he's still going to be better than Haywood/Dampier.
Dallas should win this series. Two big reasons: Jason Kidd: Kidd is playing some great basketball and he is not a liability on offense anymore (shooting 40%+ from the 2). He knows how to control the tempo of a playoff basketball game. Dallas were known as iso team with Dirk having to make most of the decision. Kidd changes their outlook and Dirk does not have to be play the role he is not very good at. He can now put all his effort on scoring. Defense of Haywood and Marion: These two fit Carlisle defensive philosophy. They are good one on one defenders and help defenders. Haywood, for the first time, gives them a legitimate inside presence. Btw, I dont think Butler has to to score a lot for Dallas. If he does, of course it makes it that much harder to beat Dallas. He just needs to get decent numbers and be a strong finisher to relive pressure off of Dirk. I think Dallas is the only team that can take the Lakers out in the Western conference and I think they have a very good chance of doing it.
