Man, Dirk must have the toughest elbows out there. Months ago, he knocks out Carl's teeth and now he breaks Manu's nose. When he drives in there, better get out of his way ...
The Mavs losing this series would be (from their standpoint) the toughest way to be out of the playoffs. They had home-court advantage and expected to do real damage in the playoffs, even perhaps making the NBA Finals. Add to that the Spurs are their arch-rival. For people that strongly dislike the Mavs, it would be awesome for them to go down this way.
Agreed, although I don't hate the Mavs like most of this board. Cuban and the team definitely had championship aspirations for this season or at least a deep playoff run. They have touted the number 2 seed, since that would give them home court in the first two rounds. I think anything less than the WCF has to be considered a disappointment for this team. Cuban also had that ill-timed and ill-advised diatribe against the Spurs after Game 1. Going out in the first round would be a very, very bitter pill for the Mavs and one Mark Cuban to swallow. Getting knocked out by the Spurs when the Mavs had home court would be a razor blade chaser. I can't think of any opposing team that would cause as much grief for Dallas. They need to put Phoenix on suicide watch if the Spurs somehow manage to take out the Suns in round 2.
nothing would be sweeter than that followed by beating the lakers, then celtics. but right now, i am just hoping that the spurs win game 4.
What's more interesting is this season will probably be the make or break season for both teams. The loser of this series will most likely break during the off season.
Carlisle made some interesting and radical moves in game 3. It is obvious that certain players are not happy about their playing time. If the Mavs move on to lose the series and the newly acquired players (Butler, Haywood, and Marion) are not getting a lot of minutes, I dont think Cuban will be happy. He will be looking for a new coach.
Who else are they gonna find that's as good as Carlisle? Wouldn't it be funny if they somehow fire Carlisle and bring back Avery Johnson? Lol.
I don't think so. They're both kind of locked in with the team they have. Both can make minor changes through free agency and the draft. The Spurs have a pretty good track record for plucking good players from low in the draft, and they have Splitter waiting in the wings. Both teams can make trades as well, and Mark Cuban in particular is always willing to take on salary to make his team better. I can't see either of them blowing it up if they fall in this round. I think they have to chalk it up as a bad first round matchup and hope for a better outcome next year.
I don't think it matters at this point. Neither one can defend Duncan. They aren't good enough to play help D on Parker or Ginobili either.
Well you obviously dont understand anything about basketball... lol Spurs are most def gna win... Mavs are good during the regular season, sure! But the postseason is what counts and thats when the spurs are at their best. Hate the Mavz..
