Refs should be punished.

    Harshly.

Remember, this is not some rookie ref. This is a veteran NBA ref with years of experience.

perkins got called for basically doing what barnes did, he kind of threw a little elbow at gortat before gortat hit the ball. not only a good reason to not act like an idiot after every play (gortat, perkins, barnes in this case) but also a reason for refs to not throw double techs around so cavalierly, because then you think you're just giving someone a tech and then they're ejected and you look like an idiot and make the nba look bad when people are already going to b****ing about ref conspiracies no matter what happens.

Yes but on that play Gortat basically tried to bump into Perkins. Gortat instigated the whole situation.

I'm pretty sure the ref knew it was a bad technical foul and is hating himself for it right now. Mistakes happen, fortunately it was against the Celtics ;)

This is the problem with no independent oversight over the officiating. You can do whatever the **** you want and get away with it, because you make the rules, and you control the game.

See, that right there is my biggest problem with officials in all sports. I don't think it's rigged - it's just a typical, spoiled brat reaction from an official whose ego was bruised when Perkins protested his call. Whenever there's a lot of controversy over an officiating mistake, officials and their supporters all point to one refrain: "They're human. Human error is part of the game."

OK, I get it. You want us to accept you guys can't be perfect, and occasionally you'll blow that whistle too quickly. That's great. But on the flip side, if you blow a call (which they did there), players are human too. They're going to be pissed. So grow some thicker skin, and unless the player goes far and beyond the line, accept the criticism like a man and move on.

Every time I start to wonder if I'm too hard on officials, something like that happens to remind me exactly why I can't stand most of them.

So it started out with Garnet, Wallace, and Perkins picking up ticky-tack fouls defending against Howard, forcing them to the bench. Then Perkins gets called for a 2nd BS tech where he purposely turned away from the ref who just called a bad foul on him.

Yeah, this game is rigged like hell.

After this game is over and the Magic has won, the NBA will review this game and issue an apology, and say that the technical should not have been called.

Of course, Celtics still lose this game.

pierce drove to the basket after the foul was called and gortat kind of pulled a kg and defended the drive. pierce fell and as gortat walked over to him perkins just had to throw a little elbow/shove in there. i didn't think anything needed to be called but it's not like it's the first time things looked like they might be getting testy after a play and the refs threw a double tech in there. try to act tough after a play and you can get a double tech and get ejected later for no reason. as a ref, throw double techs around for little to no reason and you might look really stupid later on when you call a bad tech later. basically, both parties are at fault. rush should probably get pulled from his next spot in the rotation because he can't interject himself like that and affect a game just because some player gets a little emotional after a play.

yeah, i know everyone has an ego but as an official part of your job is not having one. sure, a player can't get in your face and disrespect you, but you can't essentially seek the confrontation out. that's where officials go wrong. you're there to be part of the scenery, not be the show. but lets face it, as long as we've got humans reffing sports, we're going to get humans with egos who let them get in the way and stuff like this will happen unfortunately. but this is the kind of situation where you need to be punished somewhat. punishing refs/umps/officials for bad calls is stupid, because they're trying to get them right. but you can't let refs let their egos get in the way.

That's Perkin's 7th tech. He's out for game 6 now. Donaghy would be proud.

They are taking one of those techs back so he won't be suspended Game 6.

As someone who was rooting for Boston, I am unbelievably pissed. Magic have gone from dislike because of Carter to borderline hate.
