You are probably not going to hear any news on it one way or the other until the signing deadline in August. If he signs it's going to be for a major overslot deal. So even if they agreed on signing terms today, the commissioners office won't let them sign off or release info on the contract until the deadline for fear of inflating the market. So really right now, no news is good news.
The Astros aren't going to sign Jacoby Jones or Adam Plutko. Plutko's apparently lost his velocity but still wants better-than-first-round money, and Jones was only ever expected to sign if LSU is destroyed by the Kraken after another hurricane and the school can't afford to honor his scholarship, or something like that. If you hold your breath waiting for either of those, you are going to turn purple. NEITHER ONE IS SIGNING WITH THE ASTROS barring a major act of God, and it has never been the plan to negotiate above what was turned down before the draft. They are both outside bets on the player changing their mind, not on the Astros giving in. If you wait around hopeful that the Astros will sign them, and then get pissed off at the "cheapskate grocer" for not paying them when they don't sign, I will be laughing at you.
I bet you were one of those "fans" calling Drayton a cheapskate when negotiations were ongoing between guys like Ross Seaton and Brad Dydalewicz after they were drafted two years ago. As it turned out, the Astros paid both those guys above slot but the lame "Drayton is cheap" critics conveniently ignored that fact and moved on to other pastures to make UncleD-hatin' hay. FWIW LSU baseball reporter Anthony Rosetta calls bull spit on your melodramatic admonitions about what Astros fans should expect wrt JaCoby Jones. Rosetta was interviewed by Astros County earlier this month and had this to say about the current situation between Jones and the organization: AC: What's the latest on the Jones developments? RR: Wish I had an answer on that, but I can’t get JaCoby or his dad, Bubba, to return calls. That’s usually an indication that the family doesn’t want to tip its hand in any way for fear of it being construed one way or another. Which leads me to believe that the Joneses are still willing to entertain an offer from the Astros. AC: We Astros fans feel like Jones has a solid commitment to LSU - is there any indication to think otherwise? See the answer above. While JaCoby has spoken to some media members in Mississippi and said he’s committed to playing for LSU, his silence over here and the fact that he hasn’t made a public announcement is a strong signal that the Astros are still very much in play. http://www.astroscounty.com/2010/07/longer-jacoby-jones-waits-better-it.html
Who, huh, wat? Maybe you should read what I wrote a little closer, because you clearly didn't comprehend. I'm the one laughing at people who are calling Drayton a cheapskate. (Of course I'm also laughing at people who think it is reasonable to pay Jacoby Jones a $4mil signing bonus.) These players are guys who have unreasonable financial demands relative to their displayed talent. It isn't "being cheap" to not pay 2x first round money to some guy who has 3rd round talent. Rather, that is what is known as stupidity. Both Jones and Plutko have made unreasonable demands. The Astros have stated very publicly with respect to Jones that they aren't going to pay him anything near what he was asking. If they sign him, it will be because he decides to take a reasonable bonus. If they don't sign him because he won't budge, good riddance. Spend the money on guys like Ariel Ovando, who have legitimate top-ten type talent.
Lets say we fail to sign Delino DeShields Jr., where would the extra draft pick be in next years draft.
It's depends on if any team above the Astros fails to sign its draft pick. If they all sign then it's #9. However, there is a good chance Arizona at #6 does not sign its draft pick. They picked Loux from A&M and he failed his physical because of a serious arm injury. So lets say everyone but Arizona signs their pick, then the Astros would pick #10. But i'd be very very surprised if deshields doesn't sign.
@MLBDraft: Delino DeShields told MLB.com that his son, #Astros No. 1 pick Delino DeShields Jr., plans to sign and not attend LSU. #mlbdraft

If they get him signed in the next few days, how much playing time will he get before the season's over (class a)?
There's an actor he remind of but I can't think of any movies he was in so I can find his name. He's nobody famous but somebody that I think most people would recognize. I'll find it one of these days.
