Agree, well if his dad is telling the truth and the Stros really were going to choose him 8th had the bonus money been good then he will probably be a 1st rd guy in 3-4 yrs.

Sapp was pre-Castro, I think he meant since Jason.

In the 19th round its ok. We sign him its a huge steal. We don't sign him it won't be that bad.

thank you for that clarification. I was out of pocket all day yesterday and this morning; I still haven't looked up who all was drafted; came to this thread and the first thing I see is a HS kid who we prolly can't sign...

It was actually a darn good day IMO. They took some real talent in the middle rounds and took some nice chances in the later rounds with signablity issue guys like JJ. I am looking at Heath, Wates, Grille(Canadian kid) and JJ as key guys.

That was fast, but he was obviously going to sign quick as a college senior drafted by his favorite team. He's going to minor league filler.

Probably close to the opposite. He is white. Only weighs 200lbs.

Yep, i'd say pretty much no relation lol... :grin:

I hope the Stros get everyone signed asap like they've been doing and get them to the short season ball. I imagine some guys may holdout till 8/15 but hope the rest get their A$$ to pro ball asap.

31. Travis Blankenship - LHP - Kansas

Travis Blankenship, a senior left-handed pitcher from Lawrence, Kan., who made a team-best 34 appearances out of the bullpen. Blankenship posted a 1-5 record with a 5.96 ERA in 45 1/3 innings on the hill. He recorded 16 walks and 51 strikeouts as a valuable reliever against left-handed hitters.

Cole was 3-1, with a 4.40 ERA in 28 relief appearance for St. Johns. In 28.2IP, Cole allowed 23H/14ER, with 26K:16BB and a .232 BAA in 2010.

“I haven’t seen anyone with that kind of power, especially with a wood bat. What he could do with an aluminum bat is just scary. He has natural power, he’s a strong kid. He knows what he’s doing at the plate, he knows how to go with the pitch, he’s not just pure power. He’s a pure hitter with power."

Impressed some scouts by putting on a power display in batting practice, showed soft hands at first base, and doubled off the wall in right-center during the game. If he doesn’t go pro, Gomez will attend San Jacinto College, a powerhouse junior college in Texas that has developed major league stars Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens.

Scout’s Take: “There was a lot of talk early on, but I haven’t heard as much lately. Not sure where he stands on everybody’s radar. He’ll get drafted at some point. … He doesn’t show that power you would hope to see in games for a guy that will have to stay at first base. He’s still a young kid, I’m sure he’ll mature and get bigger and stronger.”

36. Ryan Halstead - RHP - Los Osos HS

Ryan Halstead is a 2010 RHP/1B/3B/OF with a 5'11'', 150 lb. frame from Alta Loma CA, who attends Los Osos HS. He has a long body, with a high waist and a lean build. Halstead does not yet have tools that really stand out, but he is a polished young player with feel for the game and mastery of his ability at this stage of development. Offensively he showed an easy, smooth stroke and hits with rhythm. His hands work well and are pretty quick to the ball. Halstead stays behind the baseball at contact and executes a nice approach. His power will come and when it does, it will be easy, fluid power stroke. Defensively he showed very sound fundamentals and plays under control, with efficient actions. Time will tell where he will play, though his footspeed will have to improve a lot to move off 1st base. On the mound Halstead has good presence and a nice, rhythmic, on-time delivery. He is a strike thrower with a mid-70s fastball that has some sink and a 12/6ish curveball. His arm works well, with easy effort. As the gets stronger and physically mature, Halstead has a chance to be one of the top players in his age group in Southern California

37. Brian Streilein - RHP - Villanova

The ace of the Wildcats starting rotation for the last two years, Streilein closed a terrific collegiate career with a dominant stretch of pitching over his final three starts. He finished the year 6-3 with a 4.20 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched, including a 3-0 mark and 21 strikeouts in his last three outings. Streilein made eight quality starts and Villanova won eight of his 13 games pitched. For the second straight season, Streilein was chosen as the Philadelphia Big Five Pitcher of the Year. His innings pitched and strikeout totals both rank seventh for a single season in school history.

Streilein's efforts this season cemented his place among the great pitchers that have pitched for the Wildcats. He finished his collegiate career ranked second in school history in strikeouts, as well as tied for third in victories and fourth in innings pitched. Streilein struck out 224 batters while winning 20 games and is one of only six Villanova pitchers ever to combine 250 career innings with at least 20 wins and 200 strikeouts.

38. Ryan Ford - 1B - Plano West HS

Ford can flat out punish the baseball. The left-handed hitter had some of the longest home runs in recent memory during the Wolves' playoff run that ended with a 5A state championship. He had nine home runs and 62 RBIs for a powerful offense that helped produce Plano West's first baseball state title.
