From Rivals: http://highschool.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1091804 The Pick: Delino DeShields Jr., 2B, Norcross (Ga.) High The Buzz: For an organization that needs talent across the board, taking DeShields here is a bit of a stretch. He is a very solid athlete as the No. 29 overall ranked high school player with good speed. He is very similar to his father, but will have a lot to work on to get to the bigs. The Pick: Mike Foltynewicz, RHP, Minooka (Ill.) High The Buzz: Another reach for the Astros but not nearly the reach that DeShields was. Foltynewicz has a heavy sinker and can run his fastball up to 96. At best, he can be similar to Brandon Webb but the Astros have bigger immediate needs to address.
WE NEED EVERYTHING...what bigger needs do we need? lol By the way, drafting a two time cy young winner is a pretty dam good projection lol
exactly nobody knows crap. sure potential is the key word in most cases. but again, at least half the kids in the first round will not ever play in the MLB
castellanos, cole wilson, jenkins, allie, brentz, luke jackson, workman, the pitcher from the citidel are still on the board
The last two relievers the Astros took in the 1st were probably worth the pick: Billy Wagner and Brad Lidge. If you get a college guy to be a reliever, he can be in the majors within a year, if you are lucky. There really aren't too many other positions where you can project that.
If he stays a full year in the minors next year (2011-2012), he could potentially be called up around the same time as Lyles.
