yeah i get it. i happen to like her music, but i didn't understand her acceptance speeches either. While it didn't seem completely fake.. it's still ridiculous to think that she didn't think she had a shot at it. She knows how everything's been going. You could say she's stayed humble or something and doesn't expect to win. But you can't be THAT surprised if you're in her position. And to be fair, last night she sounded absolutely terrible. But I've seen some videos of her singing live before...and she's actually not bad. Her songs aren't super difficult to sing, so I'm not saying she's a great singer. But nowhere near as bad as she sounded yesterday...I don't know what the hell that was Still agree that she's below a lot of others. But if you can write music and lyrics that a big group of people respond to and generally do a good job with it, I think that's what this whole thing is out. She has a huge audience, and they applaud her work. (Especially when they're giving Grammys to Stephen Colbert now.. and about 50 "special awards" each year)
Not to mention didn't the Taylor Swift and Beyonce albums come out in 2008...seems like they've been out longer than that with how much they are played. At the very least couldn't they at least award what's current?
Oh I wish I could have resisted that. I think my eyes just melted from the horribleness that was what ever that was.
??? Pink's performance was awesome, I didn't really know that song but I thought the staging was hella creative. Why does Beyonce get so much s*** here? Whether you like her or not, she has incredible range, is extremely versatile and has been pumping out hits for over a decade. I didn't puke at the irony of "the who?" doing the half time show at the Super Bowl (/thread), but I understand that they have fans and I respect their taste without regard to my own. Why can't you guys seem to do the same when it comes to her?
Is that pre-op and post-op? If not, I can't figure out where she hides that thing. Does she tape it or tuck it?
She won. A lot of people was saying she should thank Kanye that she won because people didn't know who she was before that incident. I think it's stupid to say that. Sure a lot of people didn't know her before the incident but that isn't why she won Grammy awards last night. I didn't watch it neither.
...I was hoping nip-slip. I have to say, when you read that beyonce won all those other awards, you would think she would have won the "big one" too. Taylor is extremely talented, but I can see where someone would think they showed her some pity, for whatever reason. It's like Chris Johnson winning offensive player of the year in a landslide, but didn't even get one vote for league MVP (only QBs did), it really makes no sense.
He did and does, just he doesnt present his points too well. Since he always acts like he's the only one on Earth to have discovered sense. Really he did the opposite making her more prominent. Its put everyone in protection mode for the young, vulnerable sweet Miss Swift. Young blonde female artist writing her own songs appealing to teens and 'tweens? I don't remember DEBBIE GIBSON getting any awards in her day?
I looked her up just to read about her songwriting and stuff and happened upon the fact that she won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award (or shared it with Springstein or something). Not that that really matters to your point. I do think that Taylor Swift should get some credit for continuing the movement of bringing country more towards the mainstream. Not saying she does classic country music or anything, but a lot of the stuff on her album is more country.. (and even the album versions of her singles are less electric guitar/pop-heavy) It seems like more people listen to her music and buy her album (or download it or whatever), and that's getting people to either say "hey, I might like some country music".. or say "hey, SOME country music is okay". Either way, it starts some exploring of a different genre of music that has been held out of a lot of people's interests without being given much of a chance. Not saying it's all her (nor that it was her intention). But I think she's been as big as anyone to that movement, and that is something significant
I think my view of the Grammy's is best expressed by a scene from the Simpsons: http://www.snpp.com/episodes/9F21.html Homer's Barbershop Quartet In the hotel room, Homer is talking to Lisa on the phone. Homer: Lisa, did you see the Grammys? Lisa: You beat Dexy's Midnight Runners. Homer: Well, you haven't heard the last of them. -- Oh yeah?, "Homer's Barbershop Quartet" Homer hangs up, then becomes pensive for a moment, then sighs. He seems depressed. Room service brings him some champagne, and when he looks for a tip, he gives the bellhop his Grammy instead. The bellhop is excited at first, but when he sees it's a Grammy, he throws it off the balcony in disgust. A man on the street tosses it back up, only to hit Homer on the head. *** And if you think rap music isn't music, then I think you should turn off the radio and actually find some hip hop that is. Good music is good storytelling and there's good music in all forms. If you're into prepubescent driven romance then enjoy. It's not life or death, but the Grammy's don't define anything. It's like the Pro-Bowl. It's entertainment.

Reminds me of what Chris Rock said in one of his standups. People will hate winners. Some hate the Lakers. Some hate the Celtics. Some hate the Yankees. Some hate UT. No one hates the Expos. No one hates the Texans...yet, heh. Seems like people hating on the success of others.
