The season is almost over and nothing that will happen in the next game will change anybody's opinion of who they think is the player of the season .. We have a lot of Nominees but I think its a three-horse race Kyle Lowry Kevin Martin Chuck Hayes My choice is Martin .. he's been the most consistent of the three to me and God knows how many points well average without him although we might be better defensively .. Its been a while since we had a top 10 scorer in the league ..
I'd say Kyle Lowry, mainly because if you rank the players we have now, Lowry is the highest rated one. KM has indeed been the most consistent and probably the most responsible for Houston's top ranked offense, however Lowry looked like a franchise player these last few months: he's been hitting open shots with ease, taking clutch jumpers with the game on the line, creating for everyone and most of all defending all over the place. He's like Mr. Tangible and intangible all rolled into one, a lot of the stuff he does doesn't register on the scoreboard. After Lowry its a tie between KM and Hayes IMHO. PP and Scola come a distant 4rth, and everyone else follows after.
Just check it. http://espn.go.com/nba/team/stats/_/name/hou/houston-rockets Scola is the only inside scoring option, and the best +/-, yet as usually, forgotten. And talking about clutch, he has been pretty good in clutch time also. Sure he has flaws, but even despite that, he was among the best of the Rockets.
Hayes, Martin, Scola, and Lowry were all critical, but Lowry was the guy that stepped up the most this year vs last. I don't think even his biggest supporters thought he had this in him.
Lowry hands down the way he played all year long got Aaron Brooks traded while making plays for his teammates even kevin martin on his success gave credit to lowry
I say Kyle lowry because ever since we traded Brooks lowry has been on his a game for the rest of the season
my first reaction was Lowry thats why i chose him but looking at K-Mart and Hayes, they have to be a really close 2nd. Lowry shows a lot of passion and heart, i bet he will be even better next season.
Although K-Mart has been the most consistent, and Lowry the most improved I would say Chuck deserves the nod. He has played well above his stature and filled a void that noone else seemed able to fill.
In total, Kyle Lowry was our best player. Sorry, Martin's a very good scorer, but I can't get past the awfulness of his defense.
It's very close and all the haters will say that Scola is not in the discussion but he obviously is (it's not his fault he's the only one of the 4 who has an excellent backup). I would still go with Lowry because of his overall game, he has no weakness.
It's a tough choice, and I need to put Scola up with the other 3. I think Scola and Martin are easily taken for granted because they're doing what we expected them to do. Lowry and Hayes stepped up their games to get into this contest. I think that's the thing that makes this roster compelling -- it is a very balanced team that really complements each other: Martin's scoring, Scola's post game, Hayes' defense, and Lowry's playmaking/rebounding/defending/hustling/shooting/leadership.
