Any trade with the Pacers that doesn't net us Danny Granger is a bad trade. Tinsley? Wtf!

I know its not relevant to this thread, but can we open up a thread regarding the funny posts contributed by the members on different occasions. Some of those were really funny.

I remember one post where a Houston "Diva" got arrested for alleged prostitution scandals that involves local pro athletes - and that sprung a series of speculations in this board suggesting who those guys may be.
One member suggested that it was Mutombo, wearing a "Luis Scola Wig" and with his own accent .....was soliciting.... It was very funny.

    Just a thought. ;)

All the Pacers have is Granger. There is no way they trade him. If you are a Pacer fan, he is the only reason to keep following them. The Pacers are buliding around him.
I know bringing Tinsley is terrible but you would have to take him on to get what you really want! (Rush and Hibbert) We could possibly end up buying him out anyway or let him sit on the bench for depth in case we suffered an injury or something to Brooks or Lowry. After next season Tinsley's contract will be in it's final year so you could use that as trade bait.

    Potential Rockets Depth Chart
    PG-Brooks/Lowry/Tinsley
    SG-Artest/Rush/Barry
    SF-Battier/White/Landry
    PF-Scola/Landry/Murphy/Hayes
    C-Yao/Murphy/Hayes/Hibbert/Dorsey

I would love to see Brandon Rush in Houston. There is a guy that can handle on the break, has good court vision, can distribute, can finish, and can shoot. A true multi-dimensional player who has not scratched the surface of his talent yet.

lets say we don't trade tmac and re-sign artest, does that mean artest and battier will rotate? I really like that idea because battier can't create his shots and is a defense only player mostly, while ron is pretty bad on offense.

Felton, Dyess, Ariza (very likely to remain in LA though), Bass, Warrick, Lamar Odom... Dyess would do most good to us than any other FA may potentially do, and a veteran exception may be quite enough to get him. Which means we can use the MLE on some young guys Felton and Bass, also we can just let it expire in order to make our payroll as slim as possible when it comes to next summer.

Kidding or high? That's really a nice trade for Philly though, which would bring in a wonderful PF plus an expiring contract while removing two awful contract. I think you should make a shot at the GM job of 76ers team once that position is vacated.

You pay extra for height. Actually you start the new year with two starters for one.

How would ya'll feel about this trade? (If it is repeated, let me know)

    Houston Trades:
    - Tracy McGrady ($23 Million Expiring Deal, with additional insurance perks)
    - Aaron Brooks (Scoring Point Guard with full potential not yet reached)

    Washington Trades:
    - Caron Butler (Excellent 2/3 who plays both sides of the floor, replaces McGrady's position as starter)
    - Gilbert Arenas (Injured star who has not played in years but who's talent even at half power is superior to the average nba player.)
    - #5 Pick (One of the "coveted" Point Guards in this year draft)

    Why Washington Makes This Trade:
Washington is struggling financially and competively and that does not look like it will change anytime soon. This trade removes the 5 year remaining contract of Gilbert Arenas who has not played in 2 years and allows them to clear $23 Million off the books at years end. Since they would have a losing season anyway in 2009-2010 this lessens the blow by saving the franchise a lot of money and paving the way for them to start fresh in the 2009-2010 season.

    Why Houston Makes This Trade:
Houston would love to have a replacement for McGrady but they want a player who can do it all, like Artest. Butler is just that type of player. Adding a 3rd defensive stopper who can also put points on the board would make this team true contenders. Though they must swallow a large contract in Gilbert Arenas, they always have the chance of him making it back on to the court and having a distinct advantage with him there. If he does not return or is no longer very serviceable then the Rockets will have taken a real burden on. The bright part about this deal, besides adding Butler is picking up the 5th pick which can net them any number of great Point Guards in this years draft or potentially a backup Center.

    Rockets New Roster 2009-2010

    P.G. - Kyle Lowry / #5 Pick / Gilbert Arenas
S.G. - Caron Butler / Von Wafer / Brent Barry
    S.F. - Ron Artest / Shane Battier / White
P.F. - Luis Scola / Carl Landry / Chuck Hayes
    ..C. - Yao Ming / ?

How about the Orlando Magic? They drafted Fran Vasquez from Spain, with a lottery pick a few years back and haven't been able to bring him to the NBA. Vasquez had signed a multiyear deal with Barcelona but I read somewhere that he wanted to come to the NBA as soon as next season. I think the emergence of Gortat and wanting to keep him and more importantly Turkoglu, the Magic have to be willing to trade Vasquez's rights. Doesn't a team lose the rights to a player after so long anyway? Isn't that how we got Scola? The Spurs had a deadline to trade Scola before losing his rights and Scola was considering signing a long term deal with Tau Ceramica. After trade talks with the Cavs broke down, Houston and the Spurs agreed to the trade.
Anyway, any chance of trading for Vasquez's rights and bringing him next season?

AFAIK,You don't lose anybody's rights after any specific time period. The rights are lost only after they are traded. The reason why the Spurs gave Luis' rights up was because he was going to sign a multi-year long term deal with Tau. They didn't think he could fit in with Duncan so they decided to trade him and save some money while giving him a chance to play in the NBA. Fortunately for us,things broke down between the Spurs and the Cavs.

I know you didn't ask me about Vasquez but I would like to make a comment.
Even if Orlando wanted to trade his rights to us,I feel his impact would be less than what Scolandry have given us. I would be hesitant to go after him even if DM wants him because of his history with the Magic. Another interesting point to note is,all of the Rockets overseas players are second round picks with non-guaranteed contacts which don't count towards the salary cap.

I wouldnt say it s a horrible trade, but it is a high risk, high reward trade. If Arenas finally gets past his injuries you have one of the most talented and deep teams in the league. If not, you are locked into him forever.

Simply stated: Morey isn't stupid. You can rest assured knowing he'll stay light years away from a player like Arenas. Arenas is the antithesis of everything Morey stands for.

The League has projected a salary cap of $57.3M for the 2009-10 season.

Blazers will have an estimated $5.819,636M of cap space to spend on free agent/s. Pretty much the same as the MLE.

Reportedly they are interested in Andre Miller, Hedo Turkoglu, and Jason Kidd. Players who are looking at deals starting at least around $10M.

Blake and Outlaw have non-guaranteed contracts until June 30. Waiving both players before that date will give the Blazers $13.419,636M of cap space. That move would seem unlikely as they are giving up assets for only a chance of a signing. As all players mentioned are under bird rights, the Blazers can be outbid in each case.

Rodriguez is supposedly on the block as a salary dump. Freeland & Koponen are unsigned 1st round picks who count towards their team salary. So does their 24th pick for this year's draft.

    http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q43
If the Rockets go in for a Blazers salary dump it would be more or less a pseudo-S&T of Artest. Helping Portland shed salary would give the Blazers the cap space to compete for Artest. So IMO, a deal for a SG needs to be in place before or at the same time for this to happen.

TE ($2.634,45M from Francis trade) + White (min exceptn) + draft right to Eliyahu, Weis, Lishouk
    to BLAZERS for
    Rodriguez + 24th pick + 33rd pick + 38th pick + draft rights to Freeland
    * Five assets for the same so the League has an easier time approving the trade
    * After waiving White the Blazers will have $9.154,032M of cap space.

    Other trades made simultaneously:

McGrady + Rodriguez to NETS for Carter + Najera
*Nets need another backup point guard
*Najera has only one guaranteed season left

Brooks + Landry + Lowry + Najera + Cook to SUNS for Nash
