Why do the Rockets have to be the scrap yard for declining sharp-shooters? Just say no to Ray Allen. If we acquire him, he will be our next Glen Rice.
Ray Allan is one of the clutches players in the league. His contract is also expiring just in case he doesn't work out. Even at the age of 34, he is shooting 48% from the field and 41% from 3. That will do wonders with the amount of open shots he will get with Brooks penetrating, Scolas and Yaos post games. He'll be perfect in Adelmans offense. And I know sometimes he disappears in some playoff games but he helps this team more than t-mac.
How high is Battier's trade value? We all know he doesn't have stats that pop out at you but he is well regarded around the league as being a winner. Solid team player, great defender, leader, intangibles,etc.. It cost us the #8 pick in the 2006 Draft(Rudy Gay) and a player on our roster (Stromile Swift) to get Battier. My first reaction(and I'm sure others') was that's alot to give up for a role player, who doesn't seem to do much! Well I was definitely wrong! I love Battier's game and I love having him on this team, but if GM's around the league feel this strongly about him, I would think his value is pretty high. All my friends rip me when I tell them I'm a Battier fan but I think we should trade him! Trade proposal Portland gets F-Shane Battier Houston gets G-Rudy Fernandez G/F-Travis Outlaw At first you will think there is no way Portland does that deal, but looking at their roster, they have alot of young depth at the wing positions. Brandon Roy Martell Webster Nicolas Batum Rudy Fernandez Travis Outlaw If Portland wants to contend, they need to give up on some young talent and acquire a solid veteran (Battier) Houston is in need of scoring at the wing We would be adding two athletic and young scoring options. Overall we would be a pretty young team but still have enough veterans to carry us through Portland Trailblazers starting five PG-Blake SG-Roy SF-Battier PF-Aldridge C-Oden (still have depth on their bench with Webster and Batum) Houston Rockets starting five PG-Brooks SG-Fernandez SF-Artest (assuming he is resigned, if not Outlaw) PF-Scola C-Yao If we can resign Artest, this trade would make even more sense to me, and would have to be explored! Would such a trade be possible?
95% of the time I am against moving Battier but this is one instance where you have to budge. If this went down I would IMMEDIATELY take Outlaw and flip him for a Raja Bell to replace Battier. This would be great asset management on our part and probably poorly enough on Portland's part for them to never consider this. Still a decent suggestion since Portland covets a veteran presence like Battier, though.
Good thinking, though I doubt if Portland would do it. This way we can use the MLE on a center instead of Von Wafer.
I think you overrate Raja Bell's CURRENT abilities. He's getting up there in age and his skills are on the decline. I would rather just hold on to Outlaw in that scenario. Actually, I would just hold on to Battier in the first place, as enticing as this proposal is. I like Rudy, but Battier means SO much to this team on so many levels. The only way I part with Battier is in a package for a true star.
You must be kidding? Has T-mac sunk that low that He has to combined with a draft pick and cash to get a player that could be declining in talent?
If Memphis takes the Deke look-a-like( 7-o ft ) in the draft, how about going after Darko as a back up to Yao? Darko > Hayes, Barry , & Cook.
Memphis would ask for a lot back. It would cost the team Landry or Scola plus another player. If this happens, I would rather stick with Landry and Scola. Unless, they ask for Tmac for Darko and fillers plus pick.
Incoming Players Tim Thomas 6-10 SF / PF from Villanova 9.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.0 apg in 22.0 minutes Kirk Hinrich 6-3 PG from Kansas 9.9 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 3.9 apg in 26.2 minutes Brad Miller 7-0 C from Purdue 11.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 3.4 apg in 31.5 minutes Outgoing Players Shane Battier 6-8 SF from Duke 7.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 33.9 minutes Tracy McGrady 6-8 SG / SF from Mount Zion Christian Academy (HS) 15.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.0 apg in 33.8 minutes
how about Jamal Crawford??? I am pretty sure he is not in the Warriors long term or short term plans He is a scoring machine!!!
Nah, we're only talking about a two year age gap between Bell and Battier here. Battier is a little better but not enough to offset the addition of Rudy Fernandez in this scenario. Bell should be starting for a contender rather than languishing on the flippin Bobcats. As for Outlaw? Outlaw is a player I have always liked. I remember telling everybody how good I thought this dude was back in 2005 before anybody knew who he was. All the same, I have just gradually continued to dislike his game more and more. He's much too soft for my taste and precisely the type of player a team like the Bobcats needs more than we do.
Here is a way to solve both our needs at backup center and and shooting guard. We have heard this trade many times, so how about it? Rip Hamilton and 15th overall pick for Tracy McGrady (we might have to throw in Landry and take on a contract as well) Our lineup now (with Landry in the deal): Brooks/Lowry Hamilton/Wafer/Barry Artest/Battier Scola/Dorsey/Hayes Yao/Mullens(15th pick) Mullens is a young, athletic, and big center (7'1 260). He is pretty raw right now, but could be servicable as a backup center getting about 10-15 minutes a night. He is a solid defender and a good second chance, finishing big man with a good low post game. Ideally, I would want to buy a pick (like 21st from NOH) and draft him there and then hopefully be able to keep Landry, so Mullens and Dorsey can split more minutes at backup center (like 10-15 each). Then we could trade or keep McGrady depending on how well he recovers. I want our lineup next year to be: Brooks/Lowry SG(McGrady, Hamilton, Redd, Carter)/Wafer Artest/Battier Scola/Landry/Hayes Yao/Mullens/Dorsey Reserves: James White (solid replacement in case of injuries to any guards/SFs) Brent Barry (switching with Hayes and Dorsey depending on game situation or injuries) Brian Cook (solid replacement in case of injuries to any big men)
Thoughts on Vince Carter? Lots of baggage and he'll be 33 next spring, but I think the nets would make the swap, since he's got two years left on his contract.
Trade Proposal with Indiana Pacers Indiana Pacers get G/F-Tracy McGrady Houston Rockets get PF/C-Troy Murphy PG-Jamaal Tinsley G/F-Brandon Rush C-Roy Hibbert Indiana is in financial trouble and are desperate to move Tinsley, but found no takers this season. They are NOT going to trade Granger because they are building around him, but if they can find a team (Houston) to take Tinsley's contract, they would probably be willing to give up Brandon Rush and Roy Hibbert. They have a lottery pick so they could still add a young player in this draft to make up for that loss. McGrady could help them sell tickets and draw more interest to the team if at some point he is healthy and can play alongside Granger I remember Houston targeting Brandon Rush in last year's Draft, so I'm sure he is someone they are interested in. Murphy is listed at 6'11 so he could probably play at the 4 and 5 for us. Double double guy, who has three point range, I'm sure could fit well in Adelman's system. He is due 11mil this upcoming season and 12mil in 2010-2011 but it would be an expiring contract. Roy Hibbert may or may not be a contributor right away but obviously would be our back up C at some point. Jamaal Tinsley would be the only downside to this trade, but would be the only reason Indiana gives us Rush and Hibbert. I wouldn't expect him to play much for us if it all but he has 2 seasons left on his contract, so after 2009-2010 he also would have an expiring contract any thoughts?
