Decent return, Dunleavy and Battier have chemistry but.... http://www.indystar.com/article/20090409/SPORTS04/904090434/1088/SPORTS04 "Nothing that I've heard has Michael coming back anytime before January," O'Brien said. "It's not even on my radar, Michael Dunleavy coming back. I have to approach next year like he's not coming back because you have to build a team." Dunleavy had surgery to remove a bone spur from his right patellar tendon and then had the tendon repaired last month in Colorado. He said there is no timetable on his return. "We're going to play two months of our schedule at least, at least, without him," O'Brien said. "It would not be in my best interest to worry about a timeline for him."
McGrady's situation is similiar to Dunleavy's which makes this trade scenario even more plausible. O'Brien is planning for the worst possible situation but that's what franchises need to do as Morey recently explained when he spoke about McGrady.
everyone is saving for next summer! morey can do some damage this offseason. - resign artest - resign wafer - do a sign and trade for rasheed wallace, im know detroit looking to dump salary. get em to sign and trade for mcgrady expiring contract. pg - brooks/lowry/barry sg - battier/wafer/barry/white sf - artest/battier/wallace pf - wallace/landry/scola/hayes c - yao/scola/hayes/dorsey im sure that we could get a real steal this offseason since we have one of the biggest expiring contracts out there. i know morey will do a awesome job!
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=nhqs2k Rockets trade Battier and Landry to the Spurs for Manu Ginobili.
You almost had me believing that we literally did it... lol.. I didn't look the link as a whole. It would be a nice trade, but I don't want to give up Battier or Landry... they're just to valuable. If McGrady was in the deal, sure I'll go for it 100%.
u r damn right, we need resheed wallace, if we get him, we going win, i know he is old tho., but he will fit in the rockets system perfectly. better fit with Yao than Louis
I'm assuming you're referring to your McGrady/Dorsey-for-Dunleavy/Murphy suggestion, in which case I don't understand how you could still back that idea given what was just mentioned about Dunleavy's injury costing him part of the 2010 season and likely even more. Is Murphy really worth taking on that risk? That's the only upside to a deal like this. I realize Dunleavy being owed roughly $20M over the next two years is comparable on paper to what McGrady is owed next year at $23M. Still, with this economy I would rather have a $23M expiring contract with a much bigger name at my disposal than a second-tier player like Dunleavy with an extra year. If this type of deal is the best we can do I would rather just try to sell Miami on a McGrady-for-Jermaine O'Neal swap. They have essentially the same contract and it still leaves us the option to get a "February Panic Deal" if that option presents itself.
The point was a team is more likely to OK a trade for a player (McGrady) who could be out for 12 months or even longer with another player in the same situation. It is a possibility that McGrady could be out for all of next season or if he can comeback at all. As it has been noted letting T-Mac's contract expire won't free up the salary space for the Rockets to be major players in 2010. Keeping him would be in the hope that he re-signs on a lower level deal. Trading for Dunleavy + Dunleavy could be a way of extending McGrady's expiring contract. The idea is to give the Rockets even more S&T options in 2010. McGrady could be a S&T option himself but do you bet on his health and return to form from microfracture? Then could also try to offload one of them (Dunleavy/Murphy) now in a multiple team trade scenario. Or move them during the season with the idea their smaller contract/s would be easier to pass along than McGrady's. A great deal is said about how valuable McGrady's expiring contract is but other teams have expiring contracts (smaller, more flexiblility in working a deal) of their own and first round picks as sweeteners. The Rockets can't afford to give away more first rounders and the size of McGrady's contract itself limits the trade options out there.
I would prefer to get healthy guys then trading cripples around the league. Lets dump T-mac for someone healthy, there is no sense in trading one injured star for an injured second tier player.
I get what you're saying and I agree that McGrady's massive contract will be hard to unload and could hinder trade negotiations. I won't be surprised one bit if his $23M contract is essentially broken down and traded for two $10-11M level players with at least one short term contract. But I still disagree that acquiring Dunleavy/Murphy gives you any kind of flexibility in trade negotiations. At least for this year. Nobody will touch Dunleavy given his situation and even though Murphy is a solid player, I question whether his rebounding spike (6-7 RPG to 12 RPG) is legitimate or just a one year anomaly. He's a solid player but he's also paid (or overpaid) accordingly. Couple that with his well documented struggles on the defensive end and you have the source of my reservations. Don't get me wrong, I understand what you're saying and it's not a BAD proposal. I just think you have to veto a deal like that from our end given Dunleavy's uncertain future.
Battierr and Barry for Nocioni and Tracy and dorsey for Jackson,Maggette, and Turiaf. Let artest and wafer walk.
That's terrible... You're basically losing your best defender for a flopper and a veteran like Barry who can still hit shots... As for the other one... I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Incoming Players Bobby Simmons 6-6 SF from DePaul 7.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 24.4 minutes Vince Carter 6-6 SG from North Carolina 20.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.7 apg in 36.8 minutes Outgoing Players Shane Battier 6-8 SF from Duke 7.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.3 apg in 33.9 minutes Tracy McGrady 6-8 SG / SF from Mount Zion Christian Academy (HS) 15.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.0 apg in 33.8 minutes
Nocioni is a better player than shane in every facet. Shane is a better defender, but nocioni is a good defender also. Offensively, its not even close. Nocioni can not only shoot the 3, but he will take it to the rim and finish, plus he's tough as nails. Barry sux. He brings nothing but being a throw in. Brooks, Jackson,Nocioni,Scola, and yao is a pretty good starting 5. Off the bench is maggette, lowry, landry, and turiaf. That's a attacking, athletic;tough, and skilled squad.
