    My worthless predictions.

I think the Steelers will dominate. They have a nice schedule for a Super Bowl champion. At a glance it seems the AFC South has an easier schedule than the North or East, so I think we (Texans) have a good shot at making the playoffs. I could definitely see a huge tiebreakers scenario between us, the Dolphins, Titans, Ravens, and Browns.

Newsflash: the Patroits haven't won since 2004. I think we can drop this whole "New England still owns the NFL" act. ;)

Right, but considering they went 16-0/18-1 in the last season Tom Brady was healthy, I don't think seeing them as a favorite is unreasonable.

It's not unreasonable at all but ask any Steelers fan about the constant Patroits hype that you hear every single year. It never ends. I'm disappointed that these two teams don't play each other in the regular season. Regardless of Brady's history vs. the Steelers, I don't think they're better but only time will tell.

With the season about a week a way I thought I would bump this with my predictions.

    AFC North
    1. Pittsburgh - It's hard to go against the Super Bowl champs especially since they play two laughable teams twice per season and they get the AFC West as well this year. The only other team in this division I see giving Pittsburgh a run is Baltimore but I just don't think they will topple them. 12-4

    2. Baltimore - I think Baltimore could win the division if Pittsburgh has some slip-ups here and there. I'm still not sure about the passing game but the running game looks on point and we all know about their defense even if they did lose some of their power this off-season, they get to play the AFC West too. 11-5

    3. Cincinnati - This is going to be the best football team next season.....in Ohio. Palmer is back and appears ready to go this season. Ochocinco apparently is happy and ready to comeback from a miserable 08 campaign. We'll see how the defense does but I'm not betting on them to show up in too many games. 6-10

    4. Cleveland - Everything about this team looks messy. From the coaches to the quarterbacks to the defense it just seems like it's in shambles. They have to play Pittsburgh and Baltimore 4 times but they do get the AFC West! 4-12

    AFC South
    1. Indianapolis - I'll go with old reliable here. Peyton Manning is at the helm, they have a good backfield, stable offensive line, and nice wide outs. The defense may be questionable but they always seem to have enough firepower to outgun the opposition. 11-5

    2. Houston - I think the Texans will be a sleeper team this year. Their offense looks good and their defense appears solid although there are questions about that defensive backfield. I think if Schaub can stay on the field, they'll make a playoff run. 9-7

    3. Tennessee - Tennessee reminds me of the 2001 Bears and I think they'll have the same fall as them just not quite as severe. I think the loss of Haynesworth could end up being tremendous on defense in particular. We'll see... 8-8

    4. Jacksonville - I don't think anybody with any football knowledge, even the Jaguars brass, is sold on Garrard at quarterback. I don't think that Jones-Drew is going to be able to withstand the constant punishment of being an every down back without some type of injuries nagging him. I don't believe Holt will show glimpses of his past Pro Bowl self. Add to that the the other three teams are simply better than the Jags and you don't have to wait long to picture a bad season. 6-10

    AFC East
    1. New England - Simply put, the Patriots were able to win 11 games without Brady. Simply put, they'll probably win the same or more with him. The running back situation is something to keep your eye on but I wouldn't put too much into it. 12-4

    2. New York Jets - The Jets return most of the players from a pretty good year last season except for Favre but that may be a positive. They also added key additions on defense such as Scott, Sheppard, etc. The question is will Sanchez follow in the footsteps of Matt Ryan or Matt Leinart? That is the key. I think he'll be able to do so and if they are somehow able to pull Marshall from the Broncos that only helps their cause. 10-6

    3. Miami - The Dolphins experienced a resurgence last year thanks to their injection of the "Wildcat" offense into the NFL. Now, almost every team has a copy of that offense and with that, defense become more and more accustomed to it and can prepare better for it. I don't think they'll do as great this year. 7-9

    4. Buffalo - Does anybody think Terrell Owens will change the Bills up that much? I didn't think so. The other teams in the division are just too talented for the Bills to overcome and I think they fall short yet again. 5-11

    AFC West
    1. San Diego - Out of all the teams in the AFC West, the Chargers are the most complete on offense, defense, and special teams. With the chaos in Denver and the youth and newness in Oakland and Kansas City, it shouldn't take much for the Chargers to win the division again. 11-5

    2. Denver - From the way they ended last season to the torment of this off-season, things are looking down in the Mile High City. Cutler is gone, Marshall is unhappy, McDaniel and the coaching staff are new, etc. They did bring in a slew of running backs but I'm not sure if that's enough to overcome the mess of the off-season they have had so far. 7-9

    3. Oakland - Although Oakland is young, they play in probably the weakest division in football. They have some serious potential talent in McFadden and Heyward-Bey and a quarterback that just might have a comeuppance this year on offense. They have one the league's best corners but had one of the worst total and rushing defenses last year. I don't really see anything they did to improve that this year. 6-10

    4. Kansas City - The Chiefs simply look like a mess. The offense looks horrible and that should be no surprise seeing how they just fired their coordinator. I'm not sure the defense looks even good, in my opinion. They just have too much work to do through their rebuilding process. 4-12

    NFC North
    1. Minnesota - Peterson is the best running back in the league by some accounts and everybody complained that the Vikings just needed a quarterback to make the offense more than one-dimensional. They got that in Favre but will he be able to hold up? The defense is stout and should be another league leader. 11-5

    2. Green Bay - Green Bay will actually challenge Minnesota for the division crown and could pull it off as well. They have the offense and defense to do just that. I think Minnesota's overall team is slightly better than the Packers by exactly one game though. Green Bay may sneak in as a wild card team. 10-6

    3. Chicago - The fans in Chicago are going nuts over Cutler as they have rarely had anything to cheer about at that position over the last couple of decades. Actually, they've never had a 4,000 yard passer before and he has the potential to do it. I just don't think the team has what is necessary to overcome the top two teams. 7-9.

    4. Detroit - Fans in Detroit will have some good news this year, they'll do better than last year. The problem is, they won't do much better. Detroit won't have another winless season but I wouldn't expect too much out of them either. 4-12

    NFC South
    1. New Orleans - I guess it will be New Orleans turn to take the division title this year as nobody wins it consistently in this division. They definitely have the offensive firepower to do the job but will their defense be up to the task? That's the big question mark. 11-5

    2. Carolina - Their question mark, can Delhomme bounce back from that horrendous playoff showing against the Cardinals? I think he can but not well enough to win the division. The Panthers defense should be better than the Saints but still not good enough to win the division. 9-7

    3. Atlanta - A remarkable year is what the Falcons had with a first year coach and rookie quarterback last season. I just see them hitting a wall this year with all the talent they have to face and let's not forget their defense was nothing special last year. 7-9

    4. Tampa Bay - Where do we start with all the losses? Brooks? Gruden? Dunn? Kiffin? The Buccaneers are in rebuilding mode and just like the division they face some stiff competition. I don't look for the Bucs to do much other than to lose double digit games. 4-12

    NFC East
    1. Philadelphia Eagles - Does anybody remember when McNabb had this many weapons? The Eagles have plenty of wide receiver depth, Westbrook and a Westbrook clone in McCoy, a revamped offensive line, and a talent whose last name starts with V. The defense may be questionable with the losses of Johnson, Dawkins, and Stewart and is one of the things that couls be their doom. The other is the effect of having the player whose last names starts with V on their roster. 11-5

    2. New York Giants - This is many people's pick to win the division this year. They have tremendous depth at the running back and defensive line positions but I don't think that constitutes enough for what they lack. Eli Manning seemed subpar most of the time without his safety net Burress out there and I think he might just get exposed this year. I really wouldn't be surprised to see them finish lower than second in the division. 10-6

    3. Dallas - The off season saw the departure of Owens, Jones, and Johnson and that might just be a wonderful thing for the Cowboys. They certainly seem a lot more stable. I think they could actually challenge for the division title with what they have although I do have questions about the offensive line and Romo in big game situations. 9-7

    4. Washington - Just like Garrard in Jacksonville, I don't think anybody is sold on Campbell as the quarterback for Washington. The defensive unit should be one of the tops in the league but the problem I see is the offense scoring enough points to win games. 7-9

    NFC West
    1. Arizona - I'd like to believe that Arizona will win the division but honestly it could be them Seattle and I'd go out on a limb and say San Francisco. I think the Cardinals have enough on both sides to win the division over those teams and make back-to-back playoff appearances. 9-7

    2. Seattle - They could just as easily win this division over the Cardinals. The keys are Hasselbeck and his health and how they use their new offensive help. Houshmandzadeh has never been the #1 receiver as he always lined up beside #85 but he'll get his chance now. Edgerrin James was brought in but I'm not sure how much he has left to give. I think the defense will be better than last year but that's not saying much. 8-8

    3. San Francisco - Singletary's first full season as head coach could be a surprise. They brought in some youth to compliment Gore, their quarterback situation isn't that bad, and Morgan could have a breakout year. The defense wasn't that bad last year either. The pieces have to fall in the right place but this could be intriguing. 7-9.

    4. St. Louis - Another team not to expect much from. It seems like yesterday we were watching the "Greatest Show on Turf" but now the team looks like perennial cellar dwellers. Jackson and Avery could be exciting but I'm not sure there is much else here to watch.

The NFL - who gives a **** about it?? Not me although I used to - I guess that is what happens when you are a Broncos fan. Thanks Pat Bowlen for killing my interest in the National Football League. :(

Nice read, Lil Pun. What about your postseason predictions? I know you just practically typed a book but what the hell -- you made it this far. :)

Chargers 12-4 is even more hilarious than a 12-4 Titans.

the only thing more funny/stupid than that is believeing the Chargers are going to win the Superbowl.

Ok cool guy tell me how?

Let's analyze this so I can make you feel stupid.

    Titans-Chargers Comparrison

    QB
The Titans had a pro bowl QB last year, cool beans. He only went because Rivers (San Diego Chargers QB) refused to go. River's stats for 2008: 4009 passing yards (5th), Kerry Collins had 2,676 (24th). PassRating: Rivers had a rating of 105.5 (1st), Collins had a rating of 80.2 (23rd). Touchdowns: Rivers had 34 (1st), Kerry had 12 (24th).

First step to a successful franchise is their franchise Quarter back, SD has one, Tenn. does not. Don't say Vince Young please. 1-0 SD.

    RB
This position can go either way, what determines this assumption is the depth of the position. I know at this point alot of people would take Johnson over LT but would you take White over Sproles? The comparrison between LT and Chirs Johnson is not lopsided at all. LT has rushed for 1100+ yards in every season. CJ only had about 100 more yards than LT and it's always good to have a RB who does not fumble. LT's only fumbled 3 times in his career rushing, 0 in the 08-09 season. I doubt Lendale can run back a kickoff or punt return. Sproles can. Interesting fact. Sproles has scored 4 td's in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. It's called clutch. Lendale can punch em' in i'll give him that, but that's only he thing he can probably do. It's a tie.

    WR:
Tenn. best reciever is Nate Washington.... Sure Kenny Britt is a rookie with potential but if you expect him to have a Hakeem Nicks, Percy Harvin or Jeremy Maclin season, your wrong. The Chargers have Vincent Jackson who had 1098 yards last year. He's also tied for 2nd with "most 40+ yds. receptions". He's down for a breakout year. Having a former Pro bowler in Chris Cahmbers at the 2nd slot isn't to shabby either.. or a 6'6 monster in Malcolm Floyd who had 8 20+ receptions and 4 td's down the stretch of the year. Point for SD

    TE
Is this even fair? Antonio Gates 'nough said. Don't believe me? You should go look at the Tenn./SD game in the 07-08 regular season. Easily SD.

    The O-Line:
We can win 'em all right? Tenn. has an excellent line and even though we have a pro bowler and 3 former pro bowlers on the line. They have the standout C Mawae who does not show his age. Point for Tenn.

    D-line
A year ago this would of been a toss up for Tenn. huh? How things change.. Fat Albert is gone. Now they just have the always solid Van dan Bosch and the "only plays hard when we're good" aging Jevon kearse. Tony brown was always a great backup but when they put him to start because of Hayne's injury Tenn.'s "nobody run's" mentality soon became, "well Hayne's is out so I can guess you can run". The Chargers line looks spectacular. Jamal Williams has always been a top NT and castillo has always been a a top LE. We drafted a 6-4 320 pound monster name Vaughn Martin who's none for his finese... Who would thought? This one goes to SD.

    LB's
You can arguably say Keith Bullock is one of the best ROLB's to ever play but he's old. The chargers get Shawne Merriman back. Yes the one who had 39.5 sacks in 3 seasons (most in the NFL). I here Qb's crying? Yes light's out is back and stronger than ever. We also a get a 1st round pick named Larry English who isn't too bad either. We have the best LOLB in the league who is named Shaun Phillips (8 sacks last year). You could probably say Thorton is the second best and I agree with that but it's not close. Cooper does not get enough praise in the NFL. Peyton is def. the biggest wiz at handling plays at the line. What did he say after the Wild card lost to SD last year? "Stephen (Cooper) was with me on every on audible change, it definatley helped there defense".

    DB's
Finnegan is a great connerback, but i'm going to say it right here; His big mouth makes him better than he is suppose to be looked at. Quentin Jammer has played with Randy Moss 7 times (Moss played in Oak. remember?). In those 7 meetings Moss has a total of 9 recs. for 147 yards and ZERO TDS.
Week 2 in the 2007-08 season, QJ was not on Moss. They rather put Drayton Florence ho got burned all night. Cromartie is a former Pro bowler who had a broken ribs all last season. He's the dude that picked off manning 4 times in one season. Hope is a very good S so is Griffin, great vision and coverage, but both combined for 148 tackles last year, Eric Weddle had 128 by himself. I'm going to make this a tie.

    ST
Sproles is one the best return aces in the NFL, Chris Johnson is fast, but had 0 returns for td's last year. Mike Scifres is the best punter in the league along with Lechler, sure Tenn. rookie punter had a pretty sick return in the pre season but it's per season. Bironas is a fromer pro bowler but so is nate Kaeding. We also have a former Pro Bowl special teamer in Osgood who killed the Titans in the OT lost to the Chargers in 07-08. Sd takes it.

San Diego has no weaknesses at all. If you look at half the articles on ESPN you can see that the Chargers either make/win the superbowl or make the AFC championship. Plus the divison is easy, you can already jot down 8 wins right there..

Next time don't talk out of your ass, k?

Wrong. Their corner play hasn't ever been anything more than "decent". They can get away with it because of the pressure they get, but if they face a team with good pass protection like the Patriots, Jammer and Cromartie get knifed up pretty easily and it turns into a shootout.

none of this means the Chargers are going to be 12-4

no weaknesses at all? HAHAHAHA. try looking @ your HC and the rest of the front office. Very weak.

I don't give a hoot what ESPN says. They seemingly have the Cowgirls and Patriots in the superbowl EVERY year. Hell....SI picked the Texans to win the AFC South. It's possible, but I don't think very many are going to agree with Peter King on that one. There is no way that you or ESPN is going to convince me that the chargers are better than Pitt. Indy, NE, Baltimore and while I can be convinced that they are better than Tenn....thats not enough to say they will go 12-4. Not to mention the NFC jugernauts.

and how are the chargers going to jot down 8 wins in the division when they don't play 8 games in the AFC West.....who is talking out of their ass?

    6 division wins*

Head coach has a bad record with other teams but he did win the superbowl as the offensive coordinator of the cowboys. Ron Rivera was the defensive coordinator of the super bowl bears a couple of years ago.

    Not so weak anymore huh?

Last time they played Baltimore we beat em' 32-17. We've beat Indy 2 straight times in the playoffs, we have there number plus new head coach? Don't think they'll be the same Indy as always.

We beat the Patriots last year, TRUE they did not have Brady but if Rivers and LT would of been healthy 2 years ago in the AFC Championship there would of been a high chance we would've beaten the than 17-0 patriots.

Uhh moestavern, did you forget we lead the league in ints. 2 years ago when Merriman was applying pressure? Plus we got NC standout Larry English.

If your just going to put the Patriots on top of the pedal stool because Brady is back, you should do the same to the Chargers defense since Merriman IS the defense.

You keep dogging on Jammer but I bet you haven't seen on of his games.. in 2008 he had 19 passes broken up and three forced fumbles, Jammer watched as safety Eric Weddle returned one of his forced fumbles 86 yards for a touchdown and as fellow corner Antoine Cason pulled down one of his passes defensed and returned it 59 yards for a score.

You don't understand the impact he has or how underrated he is.

Pitt. is the defending champions and they very little weaknesses.. I can't argue with that.

Charger's were 14-2, 3 seasons ago, no reason they can't get close to that especially with a better and more mature roster.

    We'll see.

pedal stool? lol. And I've never seen Jammer play? Please kid, I've seen more AFC West games than you have.

Quentin Jammer is overrated as ****. He's painfully mediocre. Anyone who knows anything about the NFL knows it. Why do you think he gets so many tackles? He gives up so many catches. Ranking CBs by stats is incredibly stupid way of measuring how good they are. Compare DeAngelo Hall's stats to Nnamdi Asomugha's for a perfect example of this. Same thing goes for Eric Weddle, when your safety is leading the team in tackles, that isn't a very good indicator of your defense's overall performance.

Chargers vs Titans Secondary is a TIE? That statement gave me a literal chuckle. That is such horrendously bad analysis I don't even know if I should bother to point out facts to prove you wrong.

I mean you're talking about a secondary who finished 3rd in the AFC in passing yards given up to a secondary who was DEAD LAST in the AFC in passing yardage given up and 31st overall.

You saying the Tennessee secondary and San Diego secondary are equal is one of the more blatant cases of homerism I've seen in quite a while.

Please try to build a convincing argument next time instead of throwing out meaningless stats.

I was a Chargers season ticket holder for awhile and I led this chorus from the stands. (maybe it doesn't help him that I am an Aggie?)

However, Jammer has gotten much better the past 2 seasons and I would say that he is easily one of the best tackling CBs in the NFL. That said, he gives up WAY to many PI penalties and certainly suffers from mental lapses which is not acceptable at the CB position.

All that said, I don't see any way the Titans end up with a better record than the Chargers this year, but hey thats just my opinion.

If both the Chargers and the Texans can make the playoffs this season, I will be a very happy man!

I wouldn't argue that the Chargers can't / won't go 12-4. In that division you've got the Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos in a 3-headed race to see who can suck the most ass.

Chargers can go 8-8 again and probably win the division comfortably, maybe they can even win 12 games, but to say their secondary is on par with the Titans is moronic.

Haha I highly doubt you've seen more AFC west game than i have, 'kid". i have video tapes from when the Hawk's were in West.

Your analysis on Jammer is bull****, know why? You say stats are overrated! Umm Jammer isn't a flahsy guy that goes for the pick all the time and get's burned because of it, therefore he does not get picks or a spot on Primes top 10 plays. I don't understand how he's overrated, he never makes the pro bowl or gets shown on highlights.

LOL so he gets tackle because he allows so many catches? Have you ever thought it's because the linebackers usually miss the tackles? Our linebacker were horrible last year. You can't guard somebody fore ever. You NEED pressure.

I can't wait til the Titans play this year so you can see what the absence of impact players like Haynesworth or Merriman do to the team.

I really don't understand how to explain it to you.

    Pass rush=pressure=faster decisions= interceptions/turnovers.

Take away pass rush, your equation doesn't work.

WHY DO YOU THINK THE BRONCOS SUCK? You can have a HOF cornerback in Champ and sooner or later he'll get beat.

I can say the same for you, your argument is "Jammer is overrated because he has alot of tackles". Ok that convinces me! You have not once told me why he is "painfully mediocre". Please give me a game in recent years where he has gotten picked on the whole game? PLEASE.
