I really don't think they should judge this over whoever has the most steals or blocks. That just goes to show that they are huge gamblers on the defensive end, in most cases. There are way too many intangibles involved for the judging to be just purely statistical.
I can see Lebron being on the 2nd team because of his ability to block at least a shot on the opponents fastbreak every game, but still I don't think he desrves to be on the 1st team.
Really who cares if he can block shots on fast breaks??? Those fastbreaks most likely resulted from his team's turnovers! And the fact that a player from the opposite team actually made it all the way to the basket shouldn't really help his case as a defender! Good defenders can prevent the fast breaks.
Lebron has been guarding Paul Pierce so far in the series with the Celtics and Pierce is not scoring effectively.
I'm not going to say Kobe or Lebron suck at defense but I will say if they are guarding our guy with the ball in his hands at the end of a tie game I'm confident our guy will get a good shot off.
I think coaches usually vote for whom they believe to be the best defenders not necessarily those who have consistently defended the best players.
well, you usually put the best defenders in the best offensive players of the other team. you dont put your worst defensive player guarding the best player on the other team.
wow lebron is such an overated defender. He gets the vote for first team just cuz he has those flashy chasedown blocks. His man on man defence is really just bit above mediocre
kobe is a good defender. 1st team all-defense? no, probably not, but you have to give him at least some credit for his defense.

I think this would be about as good of an offensive unit as you could put on the floor and expect to work together. Yes, I think about the 2000 Olympic team and it's lack of pure shooters, but this unit would have no problem jacking up 90-95 PPG without help from the bench.
