I haven't been that impressed with Hills this season. And with the holes this team has, they'd be stupid to draft Bennett when they already have Owen Daniels.

Didn't they say the same thing about Barry Sanders? If you have talent it doesn't matter your height. Jones-Drew much to my chagrin, will have a very good career. I'd take a chance on him. :p

i never understood Houston's obsession with drafting locals. gotta draft VY because he's from Aldine even if Leinart or Cutler might be the better QB. gotta draft Tony Hills because he's a Longhorn even if he's overrated.

Uh ... memo, this phenomena is not indigenous just to Texas. If you can land someone who is talented and has skills plus, is nearby in the region (OK, LA, TX) that galvanizes your fan base and makes it bigger. Better scenario for all concerned as long as they're a hit and not a miss.

The VY lovers keep saying well if you draft him you would sell more tickets. Where exactly are the people going to sit on the roof. I hope everyone realizes there is a waiting list for season tickets and every game they have ever played has sold out. I say draft the best player who cares where they are from.

yes, but they don't own a texans jersey. a texans car flag, a texans underwear, a texans pair of socks, a texans mouse pad, a texans 22 inch rims, a texans backpack.

    i own a texans shirt...

No thanks on Hills, he hasn't played up to his billing. He's got great size and athleticism but doesn't hold his blocks nearly enough.

Also looks like we will probably be picking a lot higher than I predicted. :(

He shut down Tommy Blake who was, until he went AWOL, a first day pass rushing DE. Alex English made him his b*tch but that was more Greg D. fault. Also, the guy has been playing OT for only 4 years. He was recrutied as a TE (think Bennet) until he injured his knee.

I like Bennet as a TE. Owens is a fine pass catching TE but Bennet lays some serious blocks. Considering we need OL help a pass/run blocking TE in the second round might be nice.

Don't forget that we don't have 2nd rounder this season. But even if we did...I would hope that the Texans spend it more wisely than a TE.

I think Hills would be a good pick if we had a 2nd, but since it seems we will be picking in the Top 10, there are 3-4 lineman that are rated much higher.

Thought that I would bump this since the season is over. As of now..it seems like we'll be picking at #18. OTs like Sam Baker and Gosder Cherilus should be available as well as RB Stewert.

I think you should draft a RB if you think that Walker isn't going to be a suitable answer. Draft an OL if you think that RB is settled.

This team does NOT need to burn a pick on a CB. Bennett and Robinson will be sufficient.

We could use a safety, but I am not sure why Boulware hasn't been given a shot.

Yeah I think this is the year we finally address the OL in the first round. Our secondary situation obviously isn't a strong point but people tend to forget how many injuries we sustained this year back there so I don't think we should look at secondary help unless somehow we have a shot at Phillips. Regarding running backs, again I don't think we need to use a first round draft pick on one because of the depth of running backs that should be available. Like a poster mentioned above, Tashard Choice makes sense in possibly the 3rd round if he's still available. I think Clady will be gone so we will probably be looking at Baker from USC or Otah from Pitt.

How legit is Sam Baker? From casual, occasional watching of USC, he looks really good. Yet when I look at NFL draft profiles on the net, there seem to really highlight a lot of negatives and suggest that he benefits from talent around him. Is he a legit first-rounder or a reach because he plays on a good team?

Secondary has been a problem for long time now. You can argue it is just as bad as the O-line. There is no guarantee about Dunta Robinson ever being the same again. Safety is a major hole that we decided to completely ignore for the past many drafts. We are supposed to be a defensive team, yet easily in the bottom quarter of NFL defenses. We just got lit up by a bunch of reserves. Our turnover ratio is horrible, second to last in the NFL. We are last in the NFL in interceptions. Even if Dunta and others come back from IR, previous years have shown the current secondary crew doesnt have any playmakers (in terms of turnovers).

In contrast, giving up sacks doesnt seem to be a major issue and inability to run the ball has a lot to do with not having an effective running back. Walker shows much potential, Dayne is decent, and ahman green will be effective if he stays injury free.

We HAVE to shore up the line and protect Shaub. You've seen what happens when we employ the "matador blocking" scheme. Drafting an OL should hopefully pay double the dividends: 1) keep Schaub ON THE FIELD and 2) open some holes for an RB.
