Go Rays! (The negative of this is when young guys don't realize how rare this opportunity is.. Longoria, Upton, Price, et al may never make it back to the WS. I hope they absorb and leave it all out there) But I'll def. be happy for Lidge and Bruntlett if the Phils win it, so no big deal if that happens
Dude - why would Red Sox fans be weeping? They have won 2 world series in the last 5 years! Cubs fans, yes, I can see them weeping because it only has been 100 years since their team has won a WS and they finished this season with the best record in the NL and couldn't even win one game in the playoffs.
Oh and congrats to the Rays. I really thought that after Boston won Game 6 that the Rays were done. But give credit to Longorria for hitting a pitcher's pitch and for Baldelli coming through as well as Aybar. And well Matt Garza was huge - outpitching Lester twice which I didn't think was possible. And David Price - damn, that guy is going to be good for a very long, long time. Makes you wonder why Maddon didn't pitch him in Game 5 - if he had, the series would have ended right there. Red Sox did as well as they could considering they had an injured Ortiz (clearly not the same player), an injured Beckett (clearly not the same player), a missing Mike Lowell plus several players who are so unclutch it is not even funny in Kotsay (hardluck) and Varitek who has nothing left offensively. I hope the Phillies win the WS but I don't see it happening.
really??? i certainly don't think they're overmatched. they might lose, because it's baseball and that happens....but i'm not thrilled with the way the rays are playing right now. that could change on a dime...but they don't look like world-beaters to me.
I don't know if the Phils can match the starting pitching the Rays throw out there. Garza has been sick, Kaz showed his good stuff in his last start and might carry that over, Sonnanstine has been solid, and Shields has been great at home and good overall. Just hard to imagine the Phillies competing with that. Then again, there's that whole bullpen thing.. I wonder if Price is the closer from here on out
Well other than Hamels, there is no one on Philadelphia's starting rotation that would strike fear in my heart, not even 969 year old Jamie Moyer. But my feelings that the Phillies don't have much of a chance is because I just feel that it is Tampa's year this year. It is like they are destined to win it all.
For some odd reason, I think Boston would've won another series, if they didn't play Tampa. Probably would've beaten any other team and soundly beat Philly.
Agreed. Tampa and Boston were the 2 best teams in MLB this year. Tampa has to be careful and not get wrapped up in this, "We just beat the 2nd best team in baseball in the Red Sox. Beating the Phillies will be a walk in the park." Philly has the offense to beat Tampa but damn, their pitching just does not excite me.
I changed my mind. I forgot about HOUSTON's own Carl Crawford. He attended my high school. I am rooting for the TAMPA BAY DEVIL RAYS now. I apologize, Carl. Proud & Ready!
