Duncan signed to an extension for less, not really a restructure. Because of guaranteed contracts, you can't restructure a deal thats already in place like in the NFL. I would like for us to go after Diop if Mutombo retires and still put everything into going for Ron Artest.
Its not just free agents, its also depth chart and possible trade. Some teams might be willing to get rid of a guy with more yrs, for someone with lesser yrs on the rox. Morey has to be specific on the core of the team. Personally, the only people I wouldn't trade is Yao and Mcgrady. That's only because I can't get fair value for either. Everyone else can be upgraded, maybe not likely. We go into another offseason with some of the same problems from 3 yrs. We're still looking for size, atheleticism, and shooters. At least we have a competent pf combo, but it can be upgraded. Watching parker, I think Brooks should start and someone like arroyo or udrih should be his backup. Battier should be on the bench or a younger guy to backup him and tracy. Yao's backup should be atheletic and mobile. He should also be capable of playing starters minutes and being at least 10ppg and 8rebs when he does start. Yao has shown he will miss 30 games per, so the rox need a guy like Mihm as a backup. Bottomline, they need players and not just specialist. Those days should be over and the rox need to transition also.
As of now, I wouldn't trade Scola, Landry and Yao. Tmac only with reasonable and equal value. rest are open.
Why are scola and landry untouchable? What does scola or landry do that some like chris wilcox can't?
I wouldn't trade Scolandry either...because there's no excuse to type Scolandry if either one of them are traded.
I think that Udrih, Turiaf, and maybe a tall athletic shooting guard like, oh I don't know, Gerald Wallace would add a lot to this team. Is Turiaf expected to get a large deal?
Iversion, who's 33 should be thinking about taking less money and sign with the Rockets for 1 or 2 yrs rental. Or else Brooks better be working his tail off this off season.
It has been said earlier, countless tim. We need to re-sign Landry. Eventhough Maggette is a great fit for this team, he is not affordable. We need a capable back-up center. He needs to be good enough so we are confident to have hime play 15-20 minutes a game. Why? We need to nurse Yao early in the season. And if we have enough dough, why not put Green back on the roster. You never know what he might do. If it still looks like he wont live up to his potential, well we lose nothing.
I know he's not a FA and I'm just daydreaming here, but Josh Howard had a major fallout with the Mavs this postseason. In between the reefer, unauthorized partying and poor playoff performance (~29% FG) I would like to believe he is a major name to be moved this offseason. Given Adelman's history with "troubled" players (see Wells, Bonzi and Artest, Ron) I think he can figure this guy out. Luther's poor playoff performance is not in the same category as Howard's (in the 2005 playoffs, he averaged 16.7 ppg and 7.4 rpg w/ a sizzling 45.3%. He will vastly improve our guard play and provide that third scorer we so desperately need (he has served as the second scorer and starter, so he can take over for Tmac when he has his annual injury break). What's in it for Dallas you say? er, three team deal? I'll let Morey handle that, lol And perhaps the strongest point lies with he fact that all those poor fools with Juwan's old jersey won't have to buy a new one!!!
Mavs might do howard for battier + head but i'd rather have battier. people complain about tmac disappearing in the 4th, josh howard is practically in the lockerroom at the end of the 3rd.
He isn't the kind of player that we need and is injury prone even though he is a decent backup when fully healthy.
If this was still the Hakeem Olajuwon's Rockets maybe, but why would any coveted free agents want to sign with the Rox for way below market value instead of another team. If you're chasing a Championship, you go with the Lakers, Celtics or the Spurs right now. Also keep in mind, the last few agents that turned down larger contracts from other cities to sign with Houston (Cuttino Mobley, Stromile Swift, and Bonzi Wells) were all moved out of town on "business decisions". Heck, even John Lucas III was drawing a lot of attention from other teams (Phoenix for one) after some stellar summer league play before Houston signed him. Once again that didn't work out, so our track record the past few years have being pretty bad when it comes to people signing with the Rockets when better offers are on the table. P.S. Unless he comes back amazing next year, we might have to add Steve Francis to that list.
You are forgetting about the mandatory chinese shoe deal and jersey sales boost that comes with signing with yao min...er...the rockets!!!
