We need someone who can create for themselves, defend, and perform at the 4th quarter. Only Baron Davis, Corey Magette, and Gilbert Arenas fit that bill. I say go for Corey Magette because he is playing in a half-court system and he is willing to drive to the basket and actually knows how to hit a FT.

Corey Magette would be an incredible addtion....slide Tmac to the SF, Battier to the bench and Maggette start at SG......

    or.

Magette comes off bench as instant offense....

    or

Tmac to the PG, Battier SF, and Magette at SG.......with Scola and Yao...that would be a very big team.....

we cant send battier to the bench because noone can create for him other than tmac whos starting. Corey will easily win 6man of the year as a spark off the bench for us.

Corey Maggette obviously makes us better but he definitely has a little Ricky Davis in him. Extremely talented but also a bad decision maker. Sounds like a solid 6th man to me -- if he's hot leave him in, if he's killing our offense pull him.

Corey Maggette is the most mature and most complete player on the list that is acutally affordable.
Gilbert Arenas is asking for max and hes a shoot first PG
Baron Davis is injury-prone and does not really perform well in a half-court system
Ron Artest only cares about himself and he got some mental problems
Jose Calderon is NOT on the market and he cant defend anywayz
Josh Smith is not mature enough to shoulder the pressure and the same goes for Josh Childress whos even worse than Smith

Rockets cant make a big offseason signing.

Young players go to teams offering the most money.

Veterans with milage take pay cuts to sign with contenders.

That is just how it works.

    that would be Corey Maggette.
We are a great team for veterans who wants to win a championship but doesnt want to ride the pine. every player we will get this summer will have a significant role in our championship run

The way i see it the only way out of this hell hole is to pull off a Boston like deal. I would rather put my money at this point on 3 superstars than 2 superstars with quistionable fit role players.

In order to do this you have to look around the league and find the best player or oldest player who has never won a thing and who is still puting up numbers but who?

Has anybody mentioned Udrih? I've love to have him here, he's a solid starter for the Kings, and maybe he would like to play for a winning team in the West. I dont' know if he will be willing to fight Alston for the starting spot, although admittedly he had to fight off Bibby for it.

ROX has been in win now mode for the last 3 years and wasted lots of opportunities doing what you are asking for. I doubt they will do that now when their 2 stars are older.

I doubt he would sign for the ROX to be a bench player.

How come no body wants the MATRIX

he is big, athletic, guard with good percentage shooter and can defend. His presence makes Batier tradeable.

Matrix won't sign for less. He's been trying to get big bucks from Phoenix, now he's in Miami.

Maggette could be a good pick up. But if the Rockets do sign him, he comes off the bench. I am convinced the 6th man NEEDS to be the 3rd scorer that this team needs.

The players I'd go after, realistic or not:

    1) Jose Calderon
    2) Ron Artest
    3) Corey Maggette
    4) Mikael Pietrus
    5) Matt Barnes

The Rockets need a legit PG, 3rd scorer off the bench, and a backup to Yao.

This team has lacked athleticism for so many years. Now that they have it, they're undersized. Versatility and height off the bench should be picked up as well.

You can add Diop to that list if he's cheap.

I think the Rockets will sign their 3rd scorer off the bench in free agency. The backup Center position will be addressed in the draft. And those expirings will nab the Rockets an upgrade at point guard, maybe not the legit one we all want, but an upgrade to ease some of that pressure off McGrady on the perimeter.

It's not heat...just a reminder that LaFrentz makes $12+m. And POR is not going to take any contracts longer that Raef's 1 more season. Not gonna happen for financial reasons.
