the cap is there, but as someone else put it, the luxary tax is some 4m away. Couple that with a sign and trade with players like Bjax-7m, alston-4m, deke?-2m. We could get another high paying star around 13m, while using the rest of it to sign the new rookies.

im surprised that ron artest wasn't added to this list.

he'd be a killer at the 4 for us.

    except that he's not a 4, he's a 3. and we've already got enough short 4s as it is.

The only way you have a chance is a sign-n-trade - but again, who wants our crap? BJax I can understand because of expiring, but Alston? Deke is retiring. Additionally, most S-n-T deals involving a star quality player involve multiple 1st round picks and maybe even a young, solid player.

Joe Johnson traded to Hawks for Diaw, (2) 1st round picks, and 6 million TE

Kenyon Martin traded to Nuggets for (3) 1st round pick

Rashard Lewis traded to Magic for conditional 2nd round pick and 9 million TE
    -------------------

Those are the 3 biggest named FA's that were S-n-T that I can recall. The one thing they all have in common is that all teams receiving the star player were under the cap, and did not send back any salary. Only picks and trade exceptions were exchanged. We are over the cap, and so would have to send back salary matching the player we receive - I doubt many teams would go for this. None have that I can remember. I have a hard time even dreaming that we have enough talent on this team to even tempt the Wizards or Clippers to do a S-n-T with us.

The only way to get him would be through a sign and trade because he's contracted through 2009-2010.

I don't think this is a good idea given that we'll have Yao back and have pretty good depth at the power forward and center position.

Think of what we would have to give up?

I'd much rather find a serviceable backup center and develop our point guards.

Are you guys serious? I would want an Arenas real bad! T-MAC doesnt like to shoot that much we need someone to get yao better involved and shoot the lights out like Arenas! I doubt he would come though :(. If the rox are smart they need to do some serious scouting in the free agents category, there are just so many in 08!!!! Also plz get rid of rafer, or keep him strictly to the bench

Problem is, players like Arenas, Elton Brand etc. are too self centered. These are the players who want to become a franchise player. So I doubt they'll be willing to come, knowing that they will no longer be the best player on their team.

Artest is different though, he isn't exactly very happy with the Kings, and Im sure Adelman would like to try coaching. Even though he hasn't coached him before, Im sure Artest has heard a thing or two about him.

But what would happen to battier if Artest comes? McGrady can start 2 and Artest can start 3. Battier as a back up. And when needed, artest can always shift to 2 whiles mcgrady rest, putting battier at 3 or even 4.

If artest does come to the rox, we're looking at one hell of a defensive team with one hell of an offensive coach. And if Stevie gets back into shape, and Landry's development........

Its about what he does in the playoffs that matter not the regular season. He could not show up and what makes other teams want to give him the full MLE? That is a problem with some teams.

Artest means championship as long as you dont give up players not named.

    Yao
    Scola
    Battier
    McGrady
    Landry
    Novak
    Harris
    Hayes

    I cant see why not.
Bulls took a chance on Rodman and won a championship.
Pistons took a chance on Wallace and won a championship.
Rockets had Maxwell won a championship.

Its not what meets the eye when players compete on the court and get in a scuffle and shows up in the media. It means they want to win that is all that matters.

Adelman has coached Artest for 1 season the year he came back. But there would be no problem in playing a 3 man rotation at the 2/3 spot because 2 of them are capable of playing the 2 spot Battier would be a upgrade over Head in his role. Artest is just the complete upgrade and can be put on the bench more often if needed for Battier. Battier is the key piece that would cancel out Ginobili off the bench who most claim to be the best 6th man of all time. Battier would be the best 6th man of all time who is underrated. Teams simply could not goto offense off the bench with Battier there.

First, Davis has a $17m Player Option for 2008-09. Secondly, the Warriors are under the cap by about $10m for next season. They may decide not to keep Barnes, Biedrins or Pietrus. But you can take it to the bank they'll keep Davis and Ellis together.

what i would like as starters would be (sounds insane), but this would be a guaranteed C-SHIP team!

    mcgrady
    artest
    scola
    yao
    arenas or baron davis

    bench:
    landry
    head
    novak
    harris
    BJ
    AB
    battier
Francis (doubt he would be effective anymore)

also i dont know alot about the draft picks but i hear this steph. curry guy is an insane shooter, but if we dont use him like we are novak then no... ;)

They traded Jason Richardson for Brandan Wright just to be sure to be able to resign Ellis, Davis, and Biedrins.

We are over the cap and only have the MLE. So how are we supposed to resign Landry, sign Davis or Arenas and Artest for 5.5-5.8mil?

Smoothie was saying he's be a killer at the 4 for us, you say he's a 3....

Hell, you could plug the guy into the lineup at any spot other than point guard. Okay, and maybe you wouldn't want him guarding too many centers, although he's beat some of them up and maybe draw them away from the basket. He's, what?, 6'7", 250 pounds. A natural small forward who could play at the 2 and sometimes at the 4.

Sometimes I wonder if we didn't trade for him because the Maloofs won't help Adelman, or because the Rockets, like everyone else, didn't want to rent the guy for half a season; but if he doesn't opt out (like he says he might not), then I can see us offering Bobby, maybe whomever we drafted his year, Luther....
