LOL, I was so angry that I didn't know what I was writing about. Plus I was in office and had to type in a hurry. Anyway, I have calmed down. I know you guys are happier to see Yankees fans whining about Sox's success. I know how you feel and I shouldn't do that. And yes, Yankees' pitchers sucked. I don't know how many over the hill, overpaid players they have signed in the past 5-6 years. Wang is a solid No. 2 or No. 3, but he is not an Ace, and yet he was used as one for the past two years because the old guys just couldn't do it anymore. Not winning is one thing, but actually Yankees is getting worse every year since the last WS appearence. It has been a hard time.
For me, the Sox winning makes the World Series a major bore. Tonight, I watched more of the BC/VaTech football game and the Nugs/Suns pre-season game than baseball. I'd be a lot more interested if it was Indians/Rockies.
Holliday getting picked off was the turning point of the series. Stay on with Helton up and at least you have a shot at tying the game. After that, it was done. And down 2-0 against a team with superior back-end pitching... they're done. Why was he even off the bag like that? He's no speedster. He wasn't going. Just asleep and/or lazy.
Actually, I read on the Boston Globe that Holliday WAS going to go on the pitch (he admitted so after the game). Brad Mills, the bench coach, for the Sox picked up on it and flashed a pickoff attempt to Varitek who then relayed it to Pap. But yea that play was a momentum deflater for the Rockies. A fellow Sox fan in the office I work in thinks this series ends in a sweep, but I am not as confident. I still don't have great faith in Dice-K. But damn I love watching Okajima and Papelbon be on like they were last night! Chuck - thanks, I felt that was too good to pass up!
A guy at my office, who isnt even into baseball, was talking about them this morning. They are a pleasure to watch when theyre on your side...
Uh, no difference - well maybe the series would be tied, but still doubtful. I don't care if they had 8 days off or 1 - they weren't going to beat Beckett - period. And last night's dismal offensive showing for the Rockies wasn't due to a long layoff (like it *might* have been for Game 1 but Beckett had a lot to do with that too) - it's that the Red Sox have the better pitching and really the better team. Look, the Rockies have always had a good hitting club (even though they were struggling, batting average wise, this postseason before the World Series), but their pitching has always been a problem. Yes, they have performed very well this postseason but I think they have played or pitched over their heads. And really this was their starters - their pen has been great, but starters like Francis and Jimenez just don't match up well on paper with the #1's and #2's of the best AL teams.
Since the All-Star Break, the Rockies have had the best ERA in baseball. Something like 2.7 or 2.8 - and that's with half their games in Coors Field. They are a bunch of no-names, but they've been phenomenal.
Well I am not disputing that; however, how many teams are going to take Jeff Francis as their #1 starter, especially over guys like Beckett and Sabathia? In other words, Francis is the type of starter that the word "dominant" really doesn't apply to. And Jimenez has great talent but he is still raw (a lot like Carmona). The Rockies pen has great quality to it, but I still think their starters have pitched beyond their ability and it is now catching up to them as they are playing a team that has a much superior offense compared to what they faced in their last playoff series. And historically since they have been a franchise, the Rockies have always hit because of the high altitude but it is a double edged sword with the high elevation - the hitting will be above average and the pitching will be below average.
Gotcha. I'm not a fan of sending him in that situation then. 2 outs, your first baserunner against the reliever (I think), and Helton up.. gotta see what he can do. But even if they think he's easy to run on.. geez, head in the game, supposed MVP..
i dont think you can just automatically write off an 8 day break so easily. becket is great in the playoffs, but no one is unbeatable.
