I cannot Agree more. 26 just behind brooks, we all saw what he've done to K-Mart , at the same time, contributing a lot of energy on the offensively end. He's also a very hard working player ,a spot light of Denver .
Raković plays great in Siena, he actually reminds me of a lot of Marcin Gortat. And I think we can buy his rights from the Mavs for a modest sum.
Hindsight is 20/20.. that being said; Yes I would have re-drafted AB. The only contenders I see fit are Marc Gasol, Sun Yue, Josh McRoberts, Glen Davis or maybe Aaron Afflalo
Yeah I'd take him because Aaron was supposed to be a nice complimentary player for Yao and T-Mac.....But if I were to do that draft now with the current roster , I wouldnt dare take him.....Give me Gasol!!!
Pretending this thread isn't completely pointless, give me Marc Gasol instead of Brooks. Maybe that way we can be the ones pouncing on Michael Heisley's incompetence in 2008 -- two weeks before the trade deadline instead of the Lakers.
Damn, I missed his name on the list when I voted. I'd probably still draft Brooks though. But, I'd take Marc Gasol over Landry. Which I guess means I value Brooks more than Landry, which seems about right.
I would definitely draft Brooks again. He's as talented, if not more, than all the guys drafts behind him. Sure, Marc Gasol might solve our problems right now, but you can't forget what AB is capable of. His defensive may be lacking, but his offense is vital when he's on. Clearly, he's frustrated. He's playing under a lot of pressure with losing his starting spot to injury and being around these hovering "noone is untouchable" trade rumors. All of this in a contract year. I hope AB bounces back and soon.
I'd take Carl Landry. Seriously, the only guy other than Landry on that list who is better than Brooks is Marc Gasol. But nobody even knew about that dude except that he was the little brother of Pau and was a throw-in in the Pau Robbery. I am pretty sure neither the Lakers nor the Grizzlies suspected that Marc would turn out to be that good.
I am probably going to get flamed for this but in all seriousness, M. Gasol is overrated on this board. I would pick Brooks over Gasol if the draft were today.
Brooks was a great pick. He just isn't enough to turn the organization around. I would have drafted Hakeem as would any other team. He was the consensus number 1 pick. However, I would have drafted Drexler over McCray. And obviously traded Sampson for Jordan.
At the time we needed a young PG and Brooks was it. He was the right choice at the time. Unfortunately he's been sucking this year so we might not get the same return as with Landry. We really cashed in BIG with Landry. We could have with Brooks too but he's been sucking....that's the ONLY reason he is still getting big minutes. Morey, so do I, is hoping he starts playing well so his stock rises again.
Marc Gasol was a fat blob in 2007. Nobody thought he would lose the weight and develop the way he did. Tiago Splitter has done NOTHING in the NBA yet. He's barely in the Spurs rotation. Aaron Brooks was a steal in the 2007 draft. He led the entire NBA in 3pter's made last season while shooting almost 40%. Brooks is no question a top 10 player in that draft. The Brooks hate is ridiculous. As someone mentioned, w/ a healthy Yao and/or McGrady Brooks would be unstoppable and a perfect fit. Wide open 3's off of double-teams and Yao to protect the rim on defense. We just need a real center. A healthy Chris Kaman would even do.
